Gross is in millions of U.S. dollars. All figures are for North American dates only.

I think it's funny the media has been all over Usher's nuts and calling him the #1 artist of 2004 and he's only #18.

Well, excluding Prince, Usher is the highest ranking artist on that list with a high profile album release this year.

The majority of those above him are well established musicians with built in fan-bases. Good for Usher!

And yeah, John Mayer owns all of you.

I couldn't fathom how Kid Rock could fill the Molson Ampitheatre in Toronto this summer (25,000 venue) let alone be in the top 25 tours of the year. Seriously, when did he last release something? Who is his target demograph?

Mainly the country/middle age male blue collar demographic.

Usher was the #1 artist of 2004 with concert revenue, radio play, album sales, video play all factored in. It's not a argument. Kayne West might give one but I'm sure he's a distant second as well.

How did Van Halen gross so much? They charged alot and their fanbase went to it.

These lists usually don't reflect the radio and mainstrem markets because the big sellers are traditionally the older acts with those long time built in fanbases.

Ozzfest has never really been a large grossing concert, most shows get 5-15k a show...I wonder how it would do if they did away with the two stage setup and did a straight one stage setup and booked arenas and stadiums instead.

Yes he did and it was a big seller on the country charts. Rock has finally abandoned the rap/rock scene to where he fits in with on the country scene.

Prince being #1 does not surprise me, I don't know about the rest of the country but Prince played the Fleet Center (An 18,000 seat venue) for three shows and all of them sold out. I also heard something about him playing five shows at MSG and seven at Staples Center, which are both 20,000+ seat venues. I think Prince has got a level of popularity on the tour circuit matched only by Bruce Springsteen.

Considering that they could have grossed $20 million for a few months work and still not make it onto this list, I'm sure they're doing just fine in their unwashed retirement.

I thought they were in the top 25 is all.

But yes, $20 million is pretty darn good.

He's doing another tour in '05, right? I mean, I heard some nasty rumors about 2004ever being his last tour, and that just can't be. I have to see him live.

I don't know if he's touring in 05. Prince seems to a tour to some extent every year (Sometimes he just plays theaters and plays almost all songs off his new album) But I heard the 04 tour is the last time he's going to play certain songs, I can't remember which ones though.
