tominator89 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2005 I read this forum, on occassion, to check out the latest news. This possible ECW has me curious... Will Vince come out and just sorta announce it? Will Heyman be involved in this? So, Sandman turned it down, any idea who else may or may not be involved? Okay, so I suppose I could continue writing more questions, but I'm wondering what is actually known of this potential show. I'm intriged by this idea, but my gut feeling tells me it will disappoint. Any information or comments would be appreciated. Thanks
Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2005 I don't understand why people are so interesting in it. To me this is no different than when Hollywood tries to remake a classic film like Psycho. It only ends up being a cheap imitation. Heroes of Wrestling also comes to mind as far as trying to relive the past in wrestling.

thuganomics 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2005 We're interested because it prove to be a really great show, just because many of the ex-ECW stars are really good workers. And it will be interesting how they organize it, as they will have to reintroduce the titles and organize the talent from both shows to promote it. (Not to mention they'll have to hire Danny Doring and Roadkill, as they had the tag titles.) And will they have some kind of tournament for the Television title, as Rhyno held both it and the World title at the end... Oh, and will Steve Corino get to appear on WWE television? That's the greatest question right there.

1234-5678 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2005 I think it will probably be a letdown, but also that anyone who walks through that curtain is going to get a roof shattering pop by the ECW faithful. Actually, if they do have it at the Hammerstein Ballroom, I may try to get tickets.
Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted January 6, 2005 this will be the biggest load of knock off crap we will ever see for the following reasons.. If the WWE keeps their hands completely in the creative and roster department.. If Any Non ECW staff member calls any match for any reason or does Any back stage interview If hardcore matches are the watered down WWF Hardcore ooo I will smash you in the face with a Cookie sheet style.. If Heyman is Not involved.. If Dreamer Tazz Al Snow Lance Storm, or any other former ECW wrestler do not have a hand in the creative process. If you think that oh wow ECW is coming back because the ECW DVD sold like hot cakes and Vince wants to exploit the dead body as if ECW was Katie Vick...you got another thing coming. This isn't going to be the OH MY GOD! its ECW of 95-99 its gonna be BAH GAWD AUSTIN AUSTIN AUSTIN ECW invasion style Trade mark Bitched out Taz into Pudgy accepting abuse masochistic TAZZ style ECW © to WWE
algrim 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2005 I'd rather not get my hopes up, since Stephanie is the head of Creative. I'll be honest up front and tell you guys that I'll be watching it at the local sports bar. That way, if it turns out to be a disaster, at least I'll have somebody else besides my friends to make fun of that crap.
Tawren 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2005 If they do go ahead with the ECW PPV, what I'm scared of is it bombing. Then Stephanie and Co. can have a reason to think "see! everybody loves the WWE style! more chinlocks! less excitement!", no matter if the show is good or not. Guest Thrashist Report post Posted January 6, 2005 It occurred to me that many of us against the ECW PPV *may* be neglecting one important wildcard that other watered down remakes didn't have: the ECW fans. Unfortunately, it's just my guess that ECW fans will be too caught up in the nostalgia of the ECW banner and the chanting and they'll enjoy themselves for the night even if it is watered down. Plus, many of the personalities that made ECW famous are in fact guaranteed to be there (RVD, Taz, Dudleys, etc), so I don't think the crowd will reject it even if it did smell too much like a Titan product. But man, imagine if they did..what a brilliant disaster that would be. I say they throw out a Heidenreich vs Grenier match just for the fun of it all. 1234-5678 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2005 Saturn wrestled for USAPRO recently after being shot in the head and neck three times while breaking up an attempted rape. While Vince didn't take advantage of that story, I have no idea. Kronus has been fat and out of shape since the ECW days. Last I heard of him, he was wrestling for XPW and we all know how long ago that was.
geniusMoment 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2005 Damn, the card I hoped to happen will not now. This was my card: (I tried to include people they would/could bring in) RVD vs. Cactus Jack Main event Eddy vs. Crippler ECW Ladder match Jericho/Malenko vs. Impact Players Dreamer/Mikey vs. Sandman/Spike ECW streetfight Mysterio vs. Tajiri vs Super Crazy Three Way Dance Dudleys vs Corino/Rhino vs Eliminators vs Gangstas Extreme Catfight Dawn Marie vs Francine Psichosis/Sabu/Al Snow vs. Candido/Guido/Juvy Note: New Jack would be a problem, but I guarantee for just one night you could handle it. Sabu, Juvy, Candido, Mikey, Super Crazy, Credible, Saturn, Mustafa and Francine would all be easy to get, in fact you could get them for minimal booking cost. I still bet you could get sandman to join. I tried to include something for everyone, representing different aspects of ECW, while portraying their history. High flying, brawling, T&A and great wrestling. I had all the matches broke down as to why, but it would take forever to post it. I choose RVD vs Cactus as the main because I feel Jack could reign in RVD, and add some psychology to the match, plus imagine the bumps those two would take. I feel the match would resemble Cactus/Sting at Beach Blast. If that was the card, I would buy a plane ticket and go to the show, scream my lungs out, get totally wasted, and end up face down in the middle of an NYC street, just having had the time of my life. Note: Joey Styles said on 1wrestling that he has given it a lot of thought, and he wants to call the show if they have it. However, he does not know if WWE wants him to. Guest Duncan Eternia Report post Posted January 6, 2005 I think an ECW PPV will be great to be at live but I highly doubt it will draw a decent buyrate. Current WWE fans are only familiar with a lot of the non WWE ECW talent through the DVD and a lot of that talent are no where near as good/entertaining as they once were. This event will make a good rental when it comes out on DVD but nothing more than that.

Guest dropkickguy Report post Posted January 6, 2005 I think that they should do an ECW tribute show as opposed to re-union show. They can get a bunch new up and coming indy wrestlers and have them compete in the spirit of ECW matches. As main events we would see the old ECW wrestlers that are under WWE contract. This could work as the launching ground for alot more things than same old ECW wrestlers doing same old gimmicks.

I would have Taz make a special appearance, and cut a Taz style promo. Throughout the night I would have Joey have special guest commentators, like Terry Funk during Dreamers match, in order to get more of the legends in. No Raven is due to TNA, same with Shane Douglas. Guest Dazed Report post Posted January 6, 2005 You know how, when the nWo first started out, they had grainy, scratchy black and white promos, and then when they joined the WWF, everything was done in that slick just-not-the-same WWF way? Yeah.

LaParkaYourCar 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2005 The real question is (don't know if it's been asked yet because I haven't read every post) will they tone down the wrestling style or will it be balls to the wall like ECW was? If it's toned down WWE style then it will be a wasted effort because it won't have the ECW feel to it.
