NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2005 I am going to go out on a limb here, but damn it looks like they are going to show TOO MUCH of Samara in this one, thus taking down the fright level of the climax, whatever it may be. Also the plot seems kind of wacky as Ring 2 is not following Ringu 2 at all.......oh well here it is..... Ring 2 full trailer
Mole 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2005 It looks, umm, dumb? I can't think of the last horror sequel that was anywhere as good as the first. Then again, I'm not a big horror guy. How many of these do you think they'll make? 5? 6?
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2005 I winded up liking the first one after all I gave it a chance, but I'm afraid the sequel is gonna take a big shit on everything good that was about the original. Which happens in most cases when it comes to the sequel curse.
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2005 The last good horror sequel I can remember is Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed. Before that? Probably Evil Dead II.
Jobber of the Week 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2005 The premise is obviously going to be tired because all horror films hinge on gimmicks and every sequel is "The Gimmick.. IS BACK!" no matter how many ways they keep trying to paint it. I don't think it'll be that bad, but only because this movie's gimmick really hits me hard, the first one caused quite a few nights where I'd listen to the radio in bed instead of leave the TV on a sleep timer. But other than that, no matter how much they try to deepen the Girl in the TV character or give explain what her connection is to Naomi Watts' kid, it's still going to about awoman crawling out of a TV set. It's about as predictable as a WCW main-eventer putting on an nWo shirt.
MarvinisaLunatic 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2005 I didn't see the online trailer, but I did one for it in front of Meet the Fockers. There was a lot of crackling and blips on the screen, Im guessing for effect. I kinda dig the "fear comes full circle" tagline.
Angle-plex 0 Report post Posted January 8, 2005 The orginal was so scary I nearly fell asleep while watching it in the theater, so I think I'm going to have to pass on this one. What can they do with this one that will make it any different (better) than the original? The premise of the first movie was exactly screaming "sequal", was it? dubq 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2005 I am going to go out on a limb here, but damn it looks like they are going to show TOO MUCH of Samara in this one, thus taking down the fright level of the climax, whatever it may be. Also the plot seems kind of wacky as Ring 2 is not following Ringu 2 at all.......oh well here it is..... Well, they said pretty much right after the first film, that the sequel would be completely original and not be based on a previous movie. That said, the books are a billion times better than any incarnation of the movies.
Gary Floyd 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2005 The last good horror sequel I can remember is Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed. Before that? Probably Evil Dead II. Well, it tends to get mixed reactions, but I love "Beyond Re-Animator" Not as good as the first, but an improvement over the second one. Besides, how can you not love a movie with a rat and a severed penis getting in a fight? Oh, and it had dialouge like this: "Thats the way to the Hole!" "It certainly is." 1234-5678 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2005 I thought that looked pretty fucking good, but I guess I am biased because I ended up being such a big fan of the original.
Use Your Illusion 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2005 The first one had too much of Samara as it is. UYI
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted January 10, 2005 What was scary about the first one? I never really got it.
Jingus 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2005 I personally was scared shitless by The Ring (MUCH more so than Ringu, which is a worse movie in my opinion), but then again the movie did deal specifically with a lot of my own personal phobias and history. So it probably wouldn't have had the same affect on most other people.

Jingus 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2005 No, but drowning, rampaging horses, and creepy little girls are all things I've almost been killed by in the past, so this movie did terrify me. Plus, all the stuff about video tape added to the feeling that this movie was made for me, since I've been doing video production stuff for years (and have never really made the jump to fully embracing digital/DVDs), plus Samara's room in the barn looked EXACTLY like a something I saw in a weird dream a few years back. Jingus 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2005 You wouldn't have been laughing if you'd had a bigass pickup truck barrelling towards you with what looked like a 10-year-old behind the wheel. How the hell her feet reached the pedals, I'll never know.
Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2005 Even if I was dead, I'd laugh at that. By the way, you guys are pretty turned around. Horror movies are one of two genres where you do get good sequels from time to time. The other is action.
Jingus 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2005 Well, I was only 13 at the time myself, so I didn't find it amusing. I never found out what happened exactly, apparently this retarded girl had gotten hold of her parents' keys and decided it's be a good idea to joyride around a crowded Walmart parking lot. This lasted all of maybe a minute before she ran into a lightpole. When they dragged her out of the car, she obviously wasn't hurt, she was only going maybe 15-20 miles an hour, but she looked like she was in a trance or something, never said a word as far as I heard. Had long dark hair that made her look a lot like Samara, too. And yeah, horror movies are about the only genre out there where a numeral 2 or 3 behind the title doesn't guarantee that the movie will suck (Lethal Weapon and Die Hard aside).
