Guest korndogg123 Report post Posted January 10, 2005 Barry Windham's theme during 91/92 sounded a lot like "La Grange" by ZZ Top. Yeah, I heard that song on the radio before, but I never knew the title and artist. The Demon used KISS' "God of Thunder" Vince Russo used a rip off of "Iron Man" Buff Bagwell's theme sounded like a riff from AC/DC's "TNT" Eric Bischoff's nWo theme was during the awesome shoot out in the movie Desperado. The real song Goldberg used for a few months was Megadeth's "Crush 'Em" My school's band played Dean Malenko's first WCW theme as a fight song during football games! Chris Jericho's first WCW theme was used for highlight reels on Baseball Tonight a few years ago.
Guest Loss Report post Posted January 10, 2005 I once heard Alex Wright's theme song in an orgy porn. Talk about breaking the mood.
Special K 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2005 How could Alex Wright's music break the mood? He is Das Wunderkind. He is German Beauty. He had his little eurodance. It should have turned you MORE on. Alex Wright used to crack me up.
BUTT 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2005 I always thought Barry Windham's theme "Smokin'" from the Slam Jam album was a rip-off of Boston's "Smokin'".
evilhomer 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2005 nWo theme had a few Hendrix licks in it too. The most obvious one from Highway Child. There was another one I had definitely picked out as a Hendrix lick, but now I can't remember it. The nWo theme was actually ripped off from a Hendrix live show. I can't recall the song and was never able to catch what album it came from, but I was listening to the radio once and midway through Jimi broke into the nWo theme. It was clearly the exact recording that WCW used for the theme. Vince Russo used a rip off of "Iron Man" That one was so obvious that I remember the announcers saying "Well it's either Vince Russo or Ozzy Ozbourne is making an appearance." Special K 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2005 It was a rip-off? I thought it was just a cheaper cover. That one was EXACTLY the same.
Si82 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2005 I don't know if my memory is right here, but I think I remember someone saying that the nWo theme was heard on a porno one time. Slightly off topic but... Steve Blackman's first WWF theme was used on adverts for a porn channel (Television X) here in the UK during the breaks on Raw Is War.
tbondrage99 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2005 Geez this is more then I ever knew. Still WWE isnt innocent in this. I know that at least Christians theme before "at last" was ripped off of Queens Boheiam Rapsody
LoRisk 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2005 Billy Kidman used a ripoff of a song called "Dirt" by Death In Vegas. And about a year ago, Juvy's theme started popping up in commercials for Trojan condoms.
Epic Reine 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2005 Didn't Crowbar, Daffney, and David Flair use an actual Nine Inch Nails song as their theme?
MillenniumMan831 0 Report post Posted January 10, 2005 Psychosis' music was pretty cool (I think they used it for Mysterio at some point as well?) But it could have well been stock music. It was just a beat caused by many strings playing at once. Quite possibly, it's my favorite WCW theme. If not that, it's Jericho's heel theme.
Special K 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2005 I never really heard the similarity to Bohemian Rhapsody and Christian's operatic music, except foe the Queen-esque opening vocals. Then it shifted into a fairly generic sounding guitar melody with deep operatic singing. Of course, I've never heard the whole thing. What happened to the guy who wrote WWF's music in its heyday? THere were so many great themes Austin Rock D-X and Jericho(I think these were done by a band though) The Brood Edge Mankind (orchestral and Crash) Dude Love Owen's Bret's Razor's HHH's - My Time (Maybe my favorite heel music ever)
evilhomer 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2005 It was a rip-off? I thought it was just a cheaper cover. That one was EXACTLY the same. Yeah, definately. I've got quite a few albums of Jimi's live stuff and it's not on any of them so I have no idea where the recording came from. I only heard it once but I'm sure it's the same because I remember saying to myself "so they DID rip that one off". It might have gone the route of Jimi-porno-nWo, but Hendrix definately played that at least once.
MillenniumMan831 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2005 ^ Most likely all of those were done by Jim Johnston who I believe is still employed w/ WWE as he has been since 1985 IIRC.

Then it shifted into a fairly generic sounding guitar melody with deep operatic singing. Of course, I've never heard the whole thing. The similarity was there, especially in the very first version which he only used for one or two weeks, but then they eventually went to the generic guitar for 'At Last.' Jim Johnston is still there, but either he regressed badly, or his influence just isn't felt as much because they began to utilize stock and outside themes more. Cran Da Maniac 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2005 Can't believe nobody mentioned this, but Shane Helms Vertebreaker song was a rip-off of ODB's "shimmy-shimmy-ya"
genius33 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2005 are you sure about the hendirx thing or are you confusing the nWo theme with hogan's theme, which was "voodoo chile" and was licensed by wcw (as well as wwe)
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2005 Also, for decent "original" music, WCW did a nice job with Harlem Heat's. Harlem Heat's music was used on Kids In The Hall. "I do it because I'm a bitch."

Guest Teckneek Report post Posted January 11, 2005 Ok we all know that WCW pretty much had no idea on how to make good entrence music aside from lucking out on the nWo theme. My question is what WCW theme music was ripped off from what songs I already know a few. Diamond Dallas Page - Nirvanas, Smells like teen spirit (Th most obvious of them all) Chris Jericho - Pearl Jams, Even Flow Shane Douglas - Deep Purples, Perfect Strangers Raven - Nirvanas, Come As You Are Perry Saturn - Marylin Mansons, The Beautiful People I know there are alot more and some are slipping from my mind at the moment, so I come to you, what are they? Prime Time Elix Skippers theme was a rip off of DMX's Y'all gonna make me loose my mind" Chronics theme was a ripoff of a Powerman 5000 song.

Er, like you, I stumbled accross it accidently, but yes, I also noticed this. They used Too Cool's theme on the same channel, which was hilarious.
Special K 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2005 are you sure about the hendirx thing or are you confusing the nWo theme with hogan's theme, which was "voodoo chile" and was licensed by wcw (as well as wwe) Yeah, we're talking about the main nWo theme. P.S. It's 'Voodoo Child'. 'Voodoo Chile' (or voodoo chili if your'se schiavone) is a different song.
Precious Roy 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2005 the nWo theme definitely lifted or replicated a couple Hendrix licks, Highway Child is the obvious one, and the part where the song slows down to allow for a couple "2 sweeeet" and "4 life" bits uses a definite Hendrix riff on the guitar. I think it was replicated though, Jimmy Hart playing Hendrix style guitar, because I never heard anything about them sampling or paying royalties to Jimi's estate, which they did when Hogan used Voodoo Child. Guest BDC Report post Posted January 11, 2005 I'm still kind of at a loss as to how the Demon using "God of Thunder" is a ripoff. As for Jim Johnson, they basically haven't given him the credit they used to. They put out entire CDs of his music that sold great, then they did WWE Aggression and I'm pretty sure they've been giving him the shaft since. He always wrote music to fit the character, but more and more, trendy entrance music has become the norm.
Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted January 12, 2005 Prime Time Elix Skippers theme was a rip off of DMX's Y'all gonna make me loose my mind" That song is called "Party Up". I said it already.
Golgo 13 0 Report post Posted January 12, 2005 Chronics theme was a ripoff of a Powerman 5000 song. And you have your late-90s bands mixed up. It was a Static-X rip off they used.
Guest netslob Report post Posted January 12, 2005 Brian Knobs used a rip-off of "My Sharona".
evilhomer 0 Report post Posted January 12, 2005 P.S. It's 'Voodoo Child'. 'Voodoo Chile' (or voodoo chili if your'se schiavone) is a different song. Hendrix did Voodoo Child (the one Hogan used) Stevie Ray Vaughan did Voodoo Chile Same song, different artists, different guitar licks, different spellings. I think this is why so many people make this mistake.
