Donations for Tsunami Relief Efforts....

Recommended Posts

... are probably not the best bet. These people celebrated after 9-11 and wear Osama bin Laden t-shirts. Also, the reason the Red Cross is asking for money, rather than food, clothes, or blankets, is because like every cause they have, it goes to executives and whatnot, and then the money that's left-over usually ends up with Somalian warlords.

Also, I'd like to know where all this money is coming from, when almost every day we're hearing stories about how we don't have enough money to get every soldier proper equipment over in Iraq, and Chicago still has toll-roads.

And why is this woman who let go of her child being treated as some sort of hero? What did she do that was heroic? This isn't The Good Son or whatever with Mcaulley calkin.

Discuss.

As opposed to giving our government a blank check worth billions of dollars to help fund and pay for haliburton over-inflated contracts and for the services for their price gouging, oh and with the left over money, a few soldiers will get some armor.

Wow, we go from a bitter, quite needless anti-charity screed to an equally needless screed about Iraq. This might be the worst thread ever. Congratulations, you two.

Let's try and keep this to the discussion of the various tsunami charities and their merits or demerits.

Well his own post veered off from the original point to a point of not trusting where the donation money is going, so I just decided to compare it to Bush asking for billions for Iraq, while outright refusing to lay out a semi-detailed plan of where the money was going to be used. :boxing:

Oh, I see, you looked in here and saw a bad post, and so you thought to yourself, "Gee, what could I say to make this thread even more inane and assinine? I know! I'll expound upon my beliefs about the war in Iraq!"

Kudos, kudos to you.

I sent over blankets coated with disease and spoiled meat. If it was good enough for the Native Americans, it's good enough for relief efforts.

The funny thing is America will get blamed if the money doesn't get to the people and the world will say we shouldn't have sent that much aid. Even though they were the ones annoying us for aid.

I'm still hopeful the aid goes to the citizens who need it and that greed doesn't get involved in this situation. I know that is a reach considering but I really hope for once that lives are more important than the profit.

I do wonder sometimes how much money is needed to rebuild a bunch of third-world towns? It's not like San Diego was destroyed or something. Give everyone a pile of two-by-fours a hammer and some nails and tell them to get to work.

Most of the money goes to clean up and not everything that was destroyed was just third world stuff. You had quite a few popular resorts destroyed as well as some temples.

Maintenance for the tractors used to clean out debris plus the body clean-up, medical supplies, food, blankets, building supplies and a few other things would come out to a pretty sizable paycheck.

Not to mention runways will have to be rebuilt for planes to land on.

I can see where the money is needed, I'm just hoping it actually goes to what is needed.

It's money that was already allocated to foreign aid, but hadn't been distributed yet. It's not like the government has $350 million just lying around.
