HBK vs. Edge

Recommended Posts

Guest Ransome
I don't think Edge is as bad as he used to be, and his character would be really good, but at certain points in his segments he overacts or makes some sort of bizzare face that makes him seem like a character in a comedy movie rather than a real, bitter person.

Yup, every time I see him I still see all those god-awful circa-2002 'You're a dorkus to the maximus' promos directed at Angle, complete with goofy smile. That's why I think he needs a new look to distance himself from all that.

I'm sure it will be HBK vs Edge at WM and that Edge will go over. That's the difference between now and WM XIX; they could have cared less about Jericho's future, while currently WWE is desperate to give their homegrown star Edge some credibility.

I just thought of something.

Isn't Edge "good friends" with HBK's friend, HHH? If so, that might cushion things a bit, and that might allow Edge to go over at Wrestlemania.

That's part of what I like about this heel character. He's got an obnoxious quality that makes you glad at his continued frustration, yet he shows enough flashes of genuine rage and anger that you have to take him seriously. It's got depth, and it plays off his past, which is pretty rare in today's WWE.

This remind anyone of HBK/Jericho from 2003?

This year, Chris Jericho is being played by Adam Copeland.

Well Jericho can't play the part without his long blond hair. Now if Edge gets some sparkly tights, and we'd be good to go.

Seriously though, I really hope they build their feud to WM XX, but not a carbon copy of Jericho/HBK.

It's almost painfully obvious that one is going to cost the other their shot at the title by eliminating them in the Rumble, just like HBK/Jericho did a few years back.

Edge is in a dead patch now, after a really hot heel run. He *needs* this win and then must progress onto the title afterwards. I've no clue who they're going to stick in there with Hunter now, as Orton is seemingly getting his shot at the Rumble, but whomever it is (likely Batista) should face Edge the following month, after winning the title.

I'm interested in the match happening, but not at WM, save that shit for Backlash so Michaels can take on Angle or Rock on the big PPV.

It's WWE, and they know what the fans want...

I simply would just have Edge(#19) do really well in the rumble and eliminate about 6 people and then HBK (#24) comes in and they brawl around ringside and shawn even does a bladejob for the sake of doing a bladejob. Back into the ring, Shawn tunes up for SCM; Edge ducks it and Shawn crashes onto the ropes and Edge spears him out. Shawn pulls a Hogan and yanks Edge over...Edge goes insane....They brawl to the back where the recently defeated Kurt Angle is there. He lays out shawn via a chair shot.

Next night; Eric Bischoff announces he's had it with Shawn and Edge causing chaos on his shows and that in two weeks in 'Nati; they will Finally get their hands on each other...in a Falls Count Anywhere match...but just to add to it...the winner will face the new World Champion Randy Orton @ Mania for the title.

The match gets primo hype from that show and the alaska show. It main events 2/14(exactly a month from Mania). Edge wins clean and Shawn is carried to the back and Kurt Angle is there "doing business" and Shawn sees kurt and attacks him and they brawl some more...

Phasing into Angle/HBK (where Bischoff becomes tired of Shawn's antics; he gives in to his demands if Shawn promises to stop his actions after it. Kurt Angle pisses off Long enough to give him the interpromotional match).

This gives us Orton/Edge for the title; this feud already has a backstory and more importantly...Shawn/Angle.

If they let HBK riff on his promos, and they allow Edge to be intense and pretty much squash HBK up till the final showdown.. Maybe a good draw. Edge needs to control the matches leading up to the blowoff, make him look strong, and in the final one I would probably have to let HBK go over.

At the very least, let the guys be themselves some on the mic. Although something tells me Edge needs to be helped through what to say more than HBK. Play up the real life transfered heat, even if it was just a few smart marks in Tampa that started those chants.

What's the worst that could happen? HBK or Edge get their "voice box crushed" spitting up blood?

I dig the general plan, except for this part:

Edge wins clean and Shawn is carried to the back and Kurt Angle is there "doing business" and Shawn sees kurt and attacks him and they brawl some more...

Why is Kurt Angle at a RAW show "doing business"? Doesn't make any sense. The more logical route is for Angle to interfere out of the crowd in the Edge-HBK match, prefaced by HBK trashtalking Angle the night after the Rumble, and an HBK-Angle backstage confrontation at the Rumble setting up the chairshot you mentioned (Angle boasting about being a Grand Slam champion, only to get interrupted by fellow GS champion AND Rumble winner HBK, or something along those lines, there's lots of ways to handle that segment)

Personally, I'd love to see HHH-Batista as a NON-TITLE grudge match, and have Orton v. Edge for the world title. Orton would definitely have to go over, which not only extends the program and builds on Edge's character, but keeps Orton from looking weak and kind of makes up for the shit reign earlier, and you have Edge take the belt a couple months later at the climax of their feud. HHH-Batista doesn't need the belt, and everyone wants to see HBK v. Angle so it's win-win-win.

The only doubt here is what match goes on last, and the last match pretty much has to be a world title change. If JBL is dropping the belt to Cena I guess that goes on last, but I'm skeptical (and baised) as I don't really like either one of them.

Shawn Michaels is a much better wrestler, mic worker, seller (and THAT is saying something), credible champion, and doesn't need to be carried.

Edge has awful hair and does a lame spear.

Shawn didn't even put super-over-heel Jericho over at WM. Why would he put "Bossman Heat" Edge over?

What business? Remember the draft is coming up; simply play it up that Angle was trying to sweet talk Bischoff into trading for him because he wants out of Long's bullshit and wanted to assure he gets on Raw

Simple as that. The next day on SD; Long goes insane about Angle being there and Angle slips up and gives away that he had just had a meeting with Bischoff bout leaving Smackdown.

Logical; foreshadows the upcoming draft and how it's an important deal and gets the draft speculation rolling.

However I do agree they should have a rumble skit where Angle bad mouths Shawn while meeting with Edge early in the show prior to Angle's Match. Simply pan out to reveal shawn in the trainer's room getting worked on and he sees this on the monitor and verbally retaliates him later in a pre-rumble interview(we need the old school 15 second pre rumble promo montage again)

You don't get it.

Shawn Vs Angle has WRESTLEMANIA written all over it.

Shawn Vs Edge has Backlash or Raw main event written over it.

Shawn Vs Edge can be blown off at 'Lash if neccesary...

Shawn Vs Angle at anyother show isn't the same. Imagine if they did Rock/Hogan at NWO instead, Wouldn't be the same would it? Or Austin/Hart I Quit at IYH...or Tyson reffing at KOTR.

Certain things are made for Mania, and certain things are fine for other shows.

Shawn Vs Angle only works @ Mania.

"Imagine if they did Rock/Hogan at NWO instead"

Oh, but they did.... ::::shivers::::

Eh, I'd rather personally have Edge flushed down in the big stage and then see Angle/Michaels drawn out a few months.

I don't want Angle/HBK if its gonna be a one month rush-job.

We'll see, if they can plan it correctly it could be fun.

Maybe that WAS the plan and Michaels just doesn't want to work Angle in March, due to not being 100%. The WWE would be safe to hold off on this dream match for several reasons: 1)If HBK isn't 100% percent, the fans will bitch. 2)WM is gonna sell huge anyway, Backlash traditionally doesn't. 3)The draft will help make the match easier to believe.

Rock/Hogan II wasn't anything near Rock/Hogan I.

Totally different.

Yup, every time I see him I still see all those god-awful circa-2002 'You're a dorkus to the maximus' promos directed at Angle, complete with goofy smile. That's why I think he needs a new look to distance himself from all that.

Edge will forever be tainted in my mind, because after the Edge/Xtian breakup, EVERYTHING Edge seemed to do was awful. There was Xtian, Regal, Storm, Test, Angle, Eddie...all were horrible feuds. He's much better now but not ready to be champion in my eyes.

That's part of what I like about this heel character. He's got an obnoxious quality that makes you glad at his continued frustration, yet he shows enough flashes of genuine rage and anger that you have to take him seriously. It's got depth, and it plays off his past, which is pretty rare in today's WWE.

It's not so much playing off his past as it is Edge just taking the act a bit too far. Whenever Edge is on the "breaking point" where it looks like he's about to snap, he usually gets a crazy-psycho face thing going on which just looks goofy. It looks more like a guy pretending to be angry than a guy that is actually angry.

Edge should also lose the trenchcoat/cape thing from his entrance and get rid of the spear (that leg submission thing he did Monday would be a million times better).

Speaking of hair, HBK's attempts at covering his ever-growing bald spot are becoming almost futile.

He really can't do much though, he'd look so awful with the Austin look. However, the Hogan look doesn't seem all that appealing either.

And it's time people started moving on from their hopes of HBK vs Angle. It isn't happening this year.

if Edge were to beat HBK at the biggest show of the year, it would catapult him right into that top spot...he would use the leverage of such a win to his advantage and will tell Bischoff he finally deserves that title shot because of his victory at the BIG DANCE...that's why it makes sense for them to fight at WM...I understand you smarks are creamin your shorts for HBK/Angle. Yes it would be a good match, but in terms of current storylines it doesn't point in that direction...besides, a match of that magnitude needs more time to gel and other than their staredown that only us internet geeks know about, they've have't really had any interaction...if I'm not mistaken, they began the Goldberg/Borck program a month or two prior to the run-in at the Rumble last year, which set up plenty of time for a, well a SHOULD HAVE BEEN, hot match at WM...

Provided Edge goes over at Wrestlemania,

Ain't gonna happen. This is Jericho-Michaels all over agin. It's a shame too, because Jericho, like Edge now, really needed that big win.

yeah I feel like I'm above people on TSM  considering I myself am closing in on 2000 posts and am on here non-stop throughout the day...I say that because the disecting of the WWE product gets old...but I will stop because it is clearly annoying! ;)

If and I mean IF Edge were to defeat HBK, it would give his character a great rub that would help out in the long run if they were serious about giving him the title to complete his journey.

*sigh* I just miss the days where I could actually watch a wrestling program and enjoy it rather than gauge crowd reactions, actual selling ability, figure out who's going over and then why that person went over, etc. know what I mean? It's kinda hard to get back to that mindframe after so long...
