Guest Deadbolt Posted January 13, 2005 Report Posted January 13, 2005 Ok was discussing this with someone the other night. Now alternatives (think Avril Lavigne/Gwen Stefani) all go on about being different and wear alternative clothes yet they're all the frikkin same. I mean you're hardly being alternative if you're wearing the same things. So I mean wtf? should there be like a new classification alternative-trendy Because unless you're being different and alternative you're all just the same
Guest Dr. Wrestlingphysics Posted January 13, 2005 Report Posted January 13, 2005 My God!!! This man has stumbled across something that no-one has EVER thought of or noticed before!
Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye Posted January 13, 2005 Report Posted January 13, 2005 Individualism is a total sham

Special K Posted January 14, 2005 Report Posted January 14, 2005 Shit man EVERY ROCK BAND that wasn't heavy-metal was called alternative in the mid-late 90's. It's just a shitty buzzword that was applied to esoteric, original rarely listened to bands, that quickly came to be applied to sappy and poppy bands. And don't you dare compare Avril Lavigne to Gwen Stefani. One was actually pretty original.
Special K Posted January 14, 2005 Report Posted January 14, 2005 Gwen Stefani. She had a unique voice.
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Posted January 14, 2005 Report Posted January 14, 2005 My dad wore ties before avirl.
Guest Failed Mascot Posted January 14, 2005 Report Posted January 14, 2005 He's probably a better singer than her too.
Red Baron Posted January 14, 2005 Report Posted January 14, 2005 He's probably a better singer than her too. and better looking too.
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Posted January 14, 2005 Report Posted January 14, 2005 My dad is a very quiet and guarded man, unlike his boistorous bastard of a son (me). No singing from that chap, but he can play a guitar like a motherfucking riot.
Special K Posted January 14, 2005 Report Posted January 14, 2005 Annie Lennox wore a tie before Avril Levigne. Now there was a unique lady.
Nighthawk Posted January 14, 2005 Report Posted January 14, 2005 Grace Jones wore a tie before Annie Lennox. Now there was a time on this board where everyone bashed pop stars and I shut them up single handedly. Don't make me force you to respect Avril Lavigne, cause I'll do it. Her style is in her socks.
Special K Posted January 14, 2005 Report Posted January 14, 2005 Grace Jones was cool too. Can Lavigne at least play an instrument?
Red Baron Posted January 14, 2005 Report Posted January 14, 2005 Grace Jones? Annie Lennox? They did nothing for music at all. Nothing. SHUT IT OFF!!! AVIRL IS PUN1K1K1!!!!1!111!!!!!!LOL100=243=0-=211!@r4;LJ43IPW
Nighthawk Posted January 14, 2005 Report Posted January 14, 2005 Can Lavigne at least play an instrument? Guitar.
Special K Posted January 14, 2005 Report Posted January 14, 2005 That's better than 95% of pop stars then. She's still copletely unoriginal.
The Metal Maniac Posted January 14, 2005 Report Posted January 14, 2005 I think it's unfair to say that she plays guitar. She sorta knows how, but she's not good at it. I think it's like her skateboard; she just carries it around to look cool, but can't really use it properly.
Nighthawk Posted January 14, 2005 Report Posted January 14, 2005 She was one of those Hansonesque played it in church deals. I didn't even think she played it professionally at all, but the point is, she knows how. She also, like Hanson and unlike most pop stars, can write songs. Being unoriginal would only be bad if you were trying to be original.
Guest Failed Mascot Posted January 14, 2005 Report Posted January 14, 2005 She also, like Hanson and unlike most pop stars, can write songs. X
Nighthawk Posted January 14, 2005 Report Posted January 14, 2005 She can. That doesn't mean she's good. Most pop stars can't even read music.
Guest Failed Mascot Posted January 14, 2005 Report Posted January 14, 2005 I thought you meant she could write a good song. Since that's not the case I retract my statement. However Hanson can not write a song. Mmmm Bop is not a song but more a slap in the face to all people who can play instruments for real.
The Metal Maniac Posted January 14, 2005 Report Posted January 14, 2005 How many of her songs has she herself actually written, though?
bob_barron Posted January 14, 2005 Report Posted January 14, 2005 Grace Jones was cool too. Can Lavigne at least play an instrument? Guitar Piano Drums. Avril wrote: Mobile Take Me Away Together (w/Chantal Kreviazuk) Don't Tell Me He Wasn't (w/Chantal) How Does it Feel (w/Chantal) My Happy Ending (w/Butch Walker) Nobody's Home Forgotten (w/Chantal) Who Knows (w/Chantal) Fall to Pieces (w/Raine Maida) Freak Out Slipped Away (w/Chantal)
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Posted January 14, 2005 Report Posted January 14, 2005 Grace Jones was cool too. Can Lavigne at least play an instrument? Guitar Piano Drums. I could pretend to sit at a drum kit for pictures than have my touring drummer play everything, too.
Guest Failed Mascot Posted January 14, 2005 Report Posted January 14, 2005 Bob has devoted his life to following the shittier aspects of pop culture.
bob_barron Posted January 14, 2005 Report Posted January 14, 2005 She played the drums at the concert I went to. She played the piano for a few song as well
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Posted January 14, 2005 Report Posted January 14, 2005 She played the drums at the concert I went to. She played the piano for a few song as well i call bullshit.
