I taught my brother how to play jingle bells on guitar. While I'm sure that there are songs that are easier to play on guitar, he would not know how to play them since he only knows this one in a "Paint by numbers" sort of way. It's more like a condition, like a very specific function that a robot can do.

 

 

He doesn't know how to play the guitar, neither does Avril.

We were talking about drums. Nobody knows if she's good or bad on guitar.

And, Paragon, the same way that Barron can't prove how many songs she knows on drums, or guitar, or whatever-else, how can people prove that she doesn't know drums, or guitar, or whatever-else?!?

Stole the words right outta my mouth. We have evidence that she CAN play the drums; meanwhile, there has been no evidence presented that she CAN'T play the drums. Ergo, until further evidence is introduced, I'll go with assuming that she is a real drummer.

The fact that the people defending Avril pretty much conceded the point that, while she technically can do such things, she's not very good at them.

 

She's awesome at the piano and pretty good on guitar but she's still learning. She can do all the songs on her album on the guitar and on Under my Skin she played guitar on Slipped Away.

 

She's also played the guitar on many TV appearances when she played Nobody's Home and My Happy Ending.

 

I bet I could turn bob gay in less than a week.

Huh? Tina and Amy are so bad that I had to write an editorial to USA Today about how bad they suck.

 

Tina and Amy are killing Weekend Update- their pissing on the legacy set by Chevy, Norm and Dennis Miller. Amy is horrible- her delivery is often rushed and awkward and it kills any chance of her jokes being funny. Tina seems to be majorly half assing it and relying on anti-Bush jokes (which were funny about 2-3 years ago) and vagina jokes. They're a terrible team together and they seem to rely on their cuteness and smiling to get laughs.

 

They played with Barbie's on WU. On the set known for it's biting commentary on the news- they played with Barbie's. I mean seriously- what the fuck? Instead of Weekend Update, we're getting the Smiley Happy Fun Time Cute Girls Slumber Party Hour and it's killing Update. What used to be my favourite part of the show is now something that I dread watching. It's pretty inifuriating that just to get some positive media attention (OMG TWO WOMEN!!!!) that Lorne and Tina were willing to kill Weekend Update. Anyone who's a fan of Tina and Amy is not a true fan of Weekend Update.

 

Amy and Tina are trying to recreate the magic of Fallon/Fey and failing miserably. Lorne really should've given the slot to Seth Meyers but he was too much of a pussy to deal with the Jimmy comparisons. As I've told people: Considering how horrible Amy is- would a month of OMG NOT JIMMY critques really be that bad? I don't think so.

Jimmy Fallon is a crime against comedy and humanity in general. So, good for him to have never played with Barbies (on air), but bad for him for ever laughing his way through what used to be a quality tv show.

 

 

And not to get too involved in this debate about whether or not this girl can play the drums, did I read that she plays the same set list every night????? How could you possibly do that and not become horribly bored?

Jimmy didn't laugh at everything- I'm someone who got pissed at his laughter more then anyone and he wasn't as bad as people make him out to be. Was it irritable when he did it? Yes. Is Gary's Fish Tanks a crime against humanity? Yes. And don't act like Jimmy ruined the show because when Jimmy was on- he was ON. His Best of Jimmy Fallon special is evidence of that. I'd take Jimmy smiling and giggling at one of his jokes over two women playing with Barbies anyday of the week.

Yea- she pretty much plays the set every night. In England she played the song Fall to Pieces which she didn't play when she did Toronto which really sucks since I love that song.

Well he was one of the most, if not the most popular castmember on the show. That probably helped his status.

Wow- way to overexaggerate. He cracked up sometimes and yes it was annoying but don't act like he did it in every skit. Jimmy was a very valueable member of the SNL team. Did he live up to his total potential? Probably not and that can be partially blamed on Weekend Update.

I never really said that.

 

I do think that if someone goes out and makes an effort to play the drums, learns multiple beats and whatnot, but sucks, then they're still a drummer.

 

But Avril apparently only went out and learned one. And stopped learning. And probably only did so so that people like us wouldn't complain about how she doesn't play anything.

TMM, we have both anecdotal and substantiated evidence that she can play at least one song on drums. Meanwhile, nobody has offered any evidence of any kind that she can't play drums. Lacking more complete information, one must assume that, yes, she is a drummer.

 

Oh, and Dennis Miller is the single most overrated cast member in SNL history IMHO.
