Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2005 On the plus side, cocaine was the only thing that ever made Robin Williams funny.

Murmuring Beast 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2005 Robin Williams is great. Robbie Williams is shit.
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2005 Blow was kinda dull, I thought. Some people think the cocaine-fueled last third of GoodFellas dragged down the rest of the movie, but it was my favorite part.
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2005 Robin Williams is great. Robbie Williams is shit. Robin Williams lost it when he decided to clean up after John Belushi's death. Now it's just the same "oh man I'm such a wacky guy" schtick over and over again. "Rock DJ" was an awesome song.

Jingus 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2005 Scarface will forever be THE coke movie for me. Traffic wasn't that bad, either.
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2005 Scarface was pretty bad.
Jingus 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2005 Aw, come on. It is massively overrated by all the kids who claim OMG GREATEST MOVIE EVER TONY MONTANA RULZZ, and it's way too fucking long, but still, a decent flick, and I've never seen a movie get the weird jumpy haze of a coke buzz more accurately. ArkhamGlobe 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2005 I'd personally say Scarface is pretty good in it's own overblown, excessive way.
Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2005 Scarface is pretty great because it's clear that most of the cast was actually on coke. And it has that "Push It To The Limit" song.
Guest Failed Mascot Report post Posted January 15, 2005 Coke movies always have great soundtracks because the people picking the music are on drugs.
Giuseppe Zangara 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2005 I'll admit Scarface has a slight charm, but its sheer length undermines any of its positives. I can't put up with something so ugly, crude and boorish for that long.
Jingus 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2005 Well then, just fast-forward to the last scene. Montana has the most ridiculously over-the-top sacrificial death since Christ, and I mean that as a compliment.
BUTT 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2005 Coke is popular with scenesters? I should ask my friend about this, he's a scenester and he hasn't mentioned this to me.

The Ill One 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2005 Christ no, coke is where it's at! Short buzz, much money, cut with all sorts of nasty shit. What's not to adore? Oh and Robin Williams never should've cleaned up.
BUTT 0 Report post Posted January 15, 2005 I always thought ex is more a trendy drug than coke...? That's with your party girls who like to go out every Friday night wearing tube tops and super-low jeans with their asses hanging out looked to get wasted. We're talking about scenesters who wear girl's jeans, black hardcore/emo band shirts, have trendy dyed black haircuts and claim to listen to every band that nobody has ever heard of. godthedog 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2005 The coke-fuelled part of GoodFellas is awesome, I love the use of music in it. eh. the use of the stones' "monkey man" is just stupid and pointless. even though it's got a great, hard-edge riff, scorsese uses it ONLY for the "all my friends are junkies" line, and then it fades away. it doesn't go anywhere, nor does it add anything to the scene. ArkhamGlobe 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2005 Hmm. It's been a while since I've seen it. Perhaps I need to rewatch it.
godthedog 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2005 it's bizarre. you see the baby and the track comes on and you're all "hey, cool it's the stones," then you hear the line, and then the song's gone and you're all "wait, what the hell just happened?" except for sid vicious's "my way" over the credits, i honestly can't remember any of the other uses of music in the drugs-and-downfall part. ArkhamGlobe 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2005 Okay, just watched the sequence from when Henry starts seeing the helicopter until the cops show up (which is what I was referencing). While I didn't like it quite as much as I remembered, I've always kind of liked how Scorsese keeps switching back and forth between different tracks as I always thought it neatly mirrored Henry's state of mind at the time. I probably appreciated it more for how the music flows with the editing and camera work, as I it really gives the sequence a great energy and gives a sense that the whole thing's about to derail at any moment.
