the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2005 BR4L, check out around page 25 there is an interview with Dana White posted. He is asked why someone like Jeremy Horn has not been brought back and he pretty much laughed it off. I don't see Horn being on his to do list when he says something like that. Question: Let me throw three names at you; Jens Pulver, BJ Penn, and Jeremy Horn. I hear from alot of fans who want to see these guys back in the UFC. Are you interested in signing any of these three fighters? Dana White: "You know, it's funny. People always say that they want to see them in the UFC so bad but when they were here, people weren't that crazy about them. Everybody was bitching about Jens Pulver, saying that every time he fought that he would stall and was boring. People could have cared less about BJ Penn. He never sold any tickets or Pay Per Views. Who was the other one, Jeremy Horn? You should know what I mean. I find that statement funny. I like Jeremy Horn, and Jens. BJ and I are friends. I just don't think that there are that many people that are excited to see them back in the UFC. BJ just fought in Japan and both times they did not even put him on television. He's not selling any tickets over there either. I went to go see him fight Gomi in Hawaii and the place there wasn't even sold out."
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2005 BONNAR...GRIFFIN...FUCKING EPIC!!!!!!!!!! Holy God, that was the most fun I've ever had watching a fight. My old man who's not into MMA at all even got a kick out of it. I had Bonnar 29-28 in the fight, but I could have seen it going either way. And Dana White wins babyface of the year by giving Steph a contract
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2005 And whether the event is sold on seperate disk, or along with season one of TUF, it'll be a pick up for Steph/Forrest alone!
Styles 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2005 Im hoping the full event is released on DVD. I'm hoping for a boxset of the whole series too with bonus footage, extended training footage, interviews, commetary...they could make it really good.
Guest Deft Report post Posted April 10, 2005 The first Shamrock slip was one of the funniest thing I've seen in a fight. I didn't catch it when it happened but on the replay you can see Franklin landing a bomb on Ken's face as he dropped.
Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2005 Before I go for tonight: Shamrock never had control high enough on Franklin's leg to finish the hee hook. Maybe against a lesser skilled guy. Oh, and "welcome" to any new fans.
Guest Deft Report post Posted April 10, 2005 Also, has Ken heard of a guard?
Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2005 Lion's Den guys can't work or pass guard well at all. Another good point from Mr. Blue: Franklin's foot was too low towards Ken hip.
Styles 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2005 Before I go for tonight: Shamrock never had cool high enough on Franklin's leg to finish the hee hook. Maybe against a lesser skilled guy. Oh, and "welcome" to any new fans. I think there's a lot of them. I can't get on to The Ultimate Fighter website, the UFC website is slow, and the Sherdog board is too busy to log in to. I've never seen so much activity even after a PPV...
JoeDirt 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2005 Evan Tanner on the fight: "Wow, what a fight!!! That was one of the best fights I've seen since I got involve in this sport. It would be an honor to train with either one those guys. Definitely don't agree with the decision."
Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2005 I'm guessing he thought it should have been a draw. I don't think anyone feels that strongly about Bonnar winning, though his reaction right before, during, and after the decision was announced was priceless. What did the crowd say after each score? I couldn't tell if it was Bonnar or Bullshit. "Trained by legendary coach............Carlson Gracie...."
Styles 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2005 "Trained by legendary coach............Carlson Gracie...." How many fucking Gracies are there?
Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2005 A lot, but I was referring to Goldberg's comment about a coach being so classic that he had to read the card. "Bonnar was coached by legend..*reads card* Carlson Gracie, a pillar of the sport!" or some other such nonsense.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2005 There are so many legendary Gracies, though
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2005 It should be against the law for a Gracie's first name to be pronounced the way it is spelled. Ryan, Royce, Rickson, Renzo, Royler, then Carlson (?!?) it doesn't fit.
JoeDirt 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2005 Well it didn't take long for the MMA boards to get filled with posts saying Shamrock/Franklin was a work.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2005 If Ken was that good of an actor on the slip he would have lasted much longer as a wrestler.
Styles 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2005 Well it didn't take long for the MMA boards to get filled with posts saying Shamrock/Franklin was a work. Impressive how Shamrock can pretend to have a huge black and blue lump under his eye shortly after Franklin pounded him a dozen times, Shamrock has great timing, still a great worker. I mean c'mon, Ogawa/Leko this was not.
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2005 I don't think Rich rocking Ken's head off the mat was a work
Styles 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2005 Besides, if it was going to be a work, the wrong guy won (in terms of potential to sell future PPVs)
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2005 Actually, I believe Griffin/Bonnar was a work. I think they got together before the fight and realized if they put on an epic fight they would both get contracts.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2005 BTW, did anyone notice that Bruce Buffer seemed wayyyyyy too excited when Bonnar was announced as getting a deal too?
Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2005 Yeah I noticed that about Buffer too. "Wow, real emotion" I thought. So can someone answer my question about the scores being announced for the Bonnar fight?
Youth N Asia 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2005 If they got together and said "let's throw knockout bombs all through the fight."
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2005 I thought the crowd was yelling "KNEE~!" when they got in the clinch, was I the only one hearing that??
Styles 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2005 Yeah I noticed that about Buffer too. "Wow, real emotion" I thought. So can someone answer my question about the scores being announced for the Bonnar fight? What's your question? The scores were unanimous 29-28 for Griffin which is probably the right score if you're not going to call the 3rd round a draw.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2005 His questions were regarding what the crowd was cheering when the results were read. Buffer still sucks, I thought Rogan and Goldie were great, though, if not repetitive at times.
Styles 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2005 I thought the crowd was yelling "KNEE~!" when they got in the clinch, was I the only one hearing that?? No, I heard that too. The crowds are great, especially in LA. When I went to UFC 50 in Atlantic City, even though the crowd as a whole wasn't as smart (very pro USA for Hughes and Ortiz and anti-Canada for St. Pierre and Cote) they still knew their MMA and were reacting at the right moments and knew what was coming in different situations... Styles 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2005 His questions were regarding what the crowd was cheering when the results were read. Buffer still sucks, I thought Rogan and Goldie were great, though, if not repetitive at times. Oh. I don't know I didn't tape it (definitely will get the replay though). I think it was bullshit though. Not so much that they thought Bonnar was the clear winner but that they wanted a draw...
Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2005 Goldie is still the greatest car shill of all time. Whether you dig that or not is up to you. It gets annoying when he's hyping other fights during ones where excitement is happening, especially since he sounds so damn fake. I like Rogan though, guy's got some genuine enthusiasm.
