It's starting to make me wonder if the Pistons were really a championship-worthy team or just a team that was able to barely make it into the Finals against a team they jsut happened to match up perfectly with. Like, if the Pacers or Nets would have made the Finals instead, would we have seen a different outcome in the Lakers' fate or would they have still lost? It doesn't matter if they just "barely" made it by the other teams they played, they still made it and they still destroyed the supposed best team in the west. This makes them championship worthy. And anyone who's seen them play this year will probably note that they just don't have near the intensity they had last year. I love the Bulls, but I'm not gonna pretend that the end of the year Pistons from 03-04 would have had any real trouble with the Bulls current squad. They would've completely shut them down and probably won by double figures tonight. The big problem is The Pistons team is a team that revolves around pure hustle and teamwork. They can't relax like the old Lakers' squads or the Spurs teams and rely on Kobe Bryant, Shaq and Tim Duncan's talents to carry them. There's no question about Detroit being championship caliber. Would Indy or NJ have beat LA? Probably not, but they didn't beat Detroit either, and that's why they play the games. Detroit owned LA in the Finals. It's a new season though, and Detroit is showing why it's so hard to repeat. And looking at their team, everything broke perfectly for them last year. Ben Wallace is a major difference maker on defense, but they don't have one truely dynamic superstar, and that hurts them now that everyone is gunning for them. Plus, I think the fight fucked with their heads in a really negative way due to it going down on their homecourt, while the Pacers seemed to have rallied around it. And the combination of the championship, olympics and brawl has definitely messed with Larry Brown, he's a pretty emotional, flighty guy as is and there's no way he's in a championship mindset right now. I stand by my belief that Phoenix knows how to draftem, but they have NO idea how to trade. What in the ever loving fuck were they thinking? Now their "big men" are Jake Voskal(who is all of 6'9), Bo Outlaw(if you want to call him big...he is really a SF) and Stephen fucking Hunter (who has been playing well actually) to back up Amare.
