krease 0 Report post Posted January 18, 2005 So with Shawn acknowledging the Canadian crowd about the Bret Hart incident, and playing up to it in his promos the past few weeks, one wonders if this could actually be leading up to something...After all, Wrestlemania isn't *that* far away. starvenger 0 Report post Posted January 18, 2005 I don't think it's anything besides the WWE knowing that Shawn will always be a heel in Canada and adjusting their booking to reflect that.

Carnival 0 Report post Posted January 18, 2005 I like how whenever shawn gets booed in canada, someone in the WWE, either HBK or someone else has to tell the fans to get over it. I mean for years WWE has been saying get over it, and dropping subtle hints saying canadians are living in the past. WWE just needs to give up on the whole "get over it" approach it's clearly not working.

iliketurtles 0 Report post Posted January 18, 2005 WWE should just be thankful that place like Toronto still draw well even though the show can suck. And it's not like the WWE is doing awesome stuff that they boo...they don't care for stuff like Bradshaw has Heavyweight champ and a main event of Kane and Gene Snitsky. Guest Hass of Pain Report post Posted January 18, 2005 Yeah, I agree that it was just done to avoid having one of the biggest babyfaces on Raw booed mercilessly for no reason. The casual once-a-month fan would be a little confused if they didn't know the whole backstory of Shawn and Bret, and I think WWE made the right call. It was cool to see Christian getting the monster reception though, I love the Canadian crowd, they can turn an average Raw into a memorable one just through their involvment. Twisted Intestine 0 Report post Posted January 18, 2005 They also played Trish, Edge and Christian as faces.. The commentators were selling this fact huge.. I was thinking maybe they're going to do something where all the wrestlers have reversed roles in Canada and the States, and turn it into some kind of Canada vs USA feud (See crowd pops to Trish insulting the States) I doubt they're doing anything though... they'll just keep claiming us as the bizzaro world. 2GOLD 0 Report post Posted January 18, 2005 Us Canadians just know where the true talent and greatness is.....Just think back to Rock/Hogan at Wrestlemania X8 and you can see that we like the finer things in wrestling. ....like Hulk Hogan? Why is it people love Hulk when he's gone but then call him a cancer when he's on the shows? I find him to be a waste of time and money when he's on the roster and not worth signing when he's available for signing. HBK is a heel in Canada. He'll be a heel till the day Bret Hart walks out as his back-up and they shake hands after the match.

Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2005 I like when they do more shows in Canada because events in the States don't draw as well, then they call the Canadians stupid. Canadians put up with it, because we like being the underdog. Sort of like the New England Patriots. Don't ask me why, it just seems to be a part of our mentality. Also, Shawn isn't that popular in the northeast US either. Remember Wrestlemania? Does that mean he hates New Yorkers too? He happens to be one of, if not the most popular wrestler in Texas and the Southeast though. That's why Shawn sucks as champion at least as a face, he is too polarizing. Very few people have no opinion on him, they either love him or hate him, and the people who hate him won't pay to watch him.
Guest Tjhe CyNick Report post Posted January 19, 2005 HBK was disliked in Toronto well before the Montreal deal. I remember being at a show in 96 (I think) when HBK was champ, yeah it must have been 96. Anyway, HBK was facing Goldust (who was still homo Goldust at the time) and the crowd was like70-30 in favour of Goldust. The only cheers for HBK was from the girls. All of us manly men were cheering for the fruit, well the pretend fruit anyway. I liked the way they adjusted the show for the crowd reactions. Its just better then them trying to book stuff that goes against what the fans are going to react to.
Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2005 Back in the mid-90s I couldn't go to a show that Shawn was at without fans screaming 'faggot' and 'queer' at him every 10 seconds.
Guest Rrrsh Report post Posted January 19, 2005 I think if they want too turn HBK heel, they shoudl do it in the Northeast. Let him vent about how he hates that the fans turn on him in certian palces and is fed up. Bitter HBK is very hateable. Then he next week, make the show in Canada and make him the centerpeice. Give him one week, and he will be more over than HHH has been in the past 3 years.
slimm44 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2005 I know it was a hilarious moment sitting with my friend who is a huge HBK fan and seeing his reaction when they booed him and cheered Christian. reign 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2005 I kinda just think that WWE should NOT try to capitalize on the fact that Canadian fans, especially Toronto, cheer and boo people differently than what most do in the states...having a show in Canada is almost a selling point on it's own now because I love to see the fans reactions to whats going on...I like that JR and the King and others acknowledge the difference too...but don't even attempt to make an angle just yet because it's not like you can kill off the angle because Canada will always be Canada...WWE poured rocket fuel all over the fire that is Canadian pride when Bret and the Hart Foundation became heels in the US but were proud to be Canadian and Montreal only intensified that feeling...now days if Raw is Toronto then I'm gonna watch because you Canuks are freakin great....... 2GOLD 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2005 Back in the mid-90s I couldn't go to a show that Shawn was at without fans screaming 'faggot' and 'queer' at him every 10 seconds. I think a lot of that had to do with his theme, his entrance with the BUTT shake and the fact females were swooning over him. So far only Bret Hart, Owen and the Anvil have been able to get away with wearing hearts on their clothing. I think.
