jester 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2005 I say they should get them both drunk beforehand and then let them totally shoot on each other. I'd pay admission for that.

nl5xsk1 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2005 Wow, you'd think they'd be pretty much all about TNA now. I watched like 30 seconds of this show this morning and they actually showed a clip of Tom Arnold wrestling one of the midgets from the TNA promotion week ... they didn't reference TNA at all, but it was pretty obvious that it was wrestling related, and non-WWE. Guest M. Harry Smilac Report post Posted January 20, 2005 Here's some highlights- The following notes are from the Austin/Vince appearances on The Best Damn Sports Show Period: - McMahon joked about getting to beat up his children on WWE TV. - Austin got Vince to admit they were now buddies and talked about his three-picture deal with WWE Films. The WWE/West Side Story ad campaign was also discussed. - Vince McMahon praised The Rock's acting ability and success in paving the way for others in wrestling to succeed in Hollywood but noted that he sometimes questions Rock's ability to choose material. - Austin gave the 'never say never' response regarding a WWE return. He did state, however, that his primary focus is his movie deal. - Austin and McMahon spoke about celebrities at WrestleMania and Austin put over Mike Tyson for his work in their notorious storyline. - Steve Austin put over his WM matches with Bret Hart and The Rock as his favorite. - McMahon stated that Hulk Hogan could be nominated for the Hall of Fame this year, but that no promises would be made. This is the funniest part - Vince McMahon praised The Rock's acting ability and success in paving the way for others in wrestling to succeed in Hollywood but noted that he sometimes questions Rock's ability to choose material. VKM is the most out-of-touch person with society today. If he had his way Rock would be doing "No Holds Barred 2:The Son of Zeus"

iliketurtles 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2005 I think he's referring that he doesn't like Rock being a gay bodyguard and not having a headline role in "Be Cool." Well, he does, but he's kind of lost in the crowd with everyone else in that movie. At least that's what I think he meant.

Well, he does, but he's kind of lost in the crowd with everyone else in that movie. At least that's what I think he meant. That's my only thought too. I think the Rundown and Walking Tall were fun, along with his Mummy related movies. Although he is kind of hidden in the crowd, from the preview it seems like Rocky and Vince Vaughn will steal the show.
SuperJerk 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2005 I'm with Vince on this one. The only movie I've seen of the Rock's was "Scorpion King", and it sucked.
Promoter 0 Report post Posted January 21, 2005 Well, we'll see what "blockbusters" Vince's company will create and then we'll see about material. I mean I'm sure we won't get anything like Rock being killed in a semi or Triple H screwing Kane's dead girlfriend One thing's for sure......Rock was right not to choose Vince Mcmahon's movies for his career I can't wait for John Cena's The Marine
Dobbs 3K 0 Report post Posted January 21, 2005 Rock has done fine...I personally really liked "the Rundown" and "Walking Tall" was decent as well, in its own right. Does anyone really care about Steve Austin at this point? I don't see how well he's really going to draw...he hasn't been on WWE television in almost a year, aside from that guest spot on Smackdown's fifth anniversary show. Vyce 0 Report post Posted January 21, 2005 or doing a movie where he's reincarnated as various animals? This is why I'm not going to be one to quickly judge Vince for his statement about the Rock. There's nothing wrong with Rock choosing to star in "Walking Tall" or "Rundown", because both are simple action flicks which is what he's good at. Some of the other shit his name has been attached to.....well, some of it leaves me scratching my head. So maybe Vince DOES have a point.
Guest The Shadow Behind You Report post Posted January 21, 2005 His upcoming movies are as follows Be Cool-likely a huge breakout role for him personally where he shows he can go beyond the stereotypical action character. This should be the movie that proves Rock has acting chops. Instant Karma-The aforementioned Animal reincarination flick. I'm not sure what he was thinking but to fair; Pierce Bronson of 007 fame is also doing this movie. Doom-A Sci-Fi Horror flick with zero other stars and likely a big budget Spy Hunter-another big time action flick but directed by proven director John Woo. So it should be very entertaining in the popcorny action blowup shit and nifty camera angles. Johnny Bravo-A Comedy of the popular cartoon. Should be a hit with the teen/youngster crowd Gridiron Gang-A dramatic role for Rock while in an environment he knows, Football. Not one of thos movies even Instant Karma look as shitty as The Marine or Goodnight does.
Guest Tjhe CyNick Report post Posted January 23, 2005 I think his choice of movies thus far have been spot on. The Scorpion King was obvious because of his start with Mummy Returns. The movie did big business, and made Rock a credible star in the movie world. Rundown and Walking Tall were just movies to prove he could carry a film. Neither did really well money wise, but I dont think anyone really expected them to either. I think Be Cool is smart because it's the type of movie that will reach a larger audience than your typical Rock movie. Those people might see him in Be Cool and go "Hey, he's not just some big wrestler-guy, he's actually entertaining, maybe I'll pay to see him". The cartoon deal is a good way to get kids to recognize him, well the ones that dont know him from wrestling anyway. Then he's back to being the headliner for Spy Hunter, which I think may have a shot at becoming a franchise. I mean I dont know anything about the movie other than the basic premise, but Ive got a feelign that will be his breakout hit (if he's going to have one). It wont be critically acclaimed or anything, but I'll be it makes a ton of money. Of course ias has already been said, its hilarious that the guy who created the XFL, the WBF and the Patterson vs Brisco Evening Gown Match can talk about poor decisions. Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2005 To be fair, Doom will be a blockbuster because it's the movie version of one of the most popular video games EVER. Also, The Rundown was awesome, way better than any of the action flicks that have come out after Speed, so don't group it in with the mindless action flicks that come out all the time. Vyce 0 Report post Posted January 23, 2005 I think Be Cool is smart because it's the type of movie that will reach a larger audience than your typical Rock movie. Those people might see him in Be Cool and go "Hey, he's not just some big wrestler-guy, he's actually entertaining, maybe I'll pay to see him". Rock starring in "Be Cool" is a smart move, business-wise. It's what I've believed he should do, right now, with this career. Look, lets be honest - despite "Rundown" being "awesome" or whatever, or "Walking Tall" being good, I don't know, outside of maybe "Scorpion King", none of the movies where he's been the main star have performed that well - not up to expectations. He is definitely unproven as a Hollywood action star. Don't get me wrong, I LIKE the guy, and I want him to succeed, because a) again, I like Rock and b) we could use a new breed of action star, a la Arnold or Sly, because the herd is pretty thin on that front now. So, in order to build up some cred, I've felt that the Rock should be starring in films with established stars - and "Be Cool" is thus the perfect movie for him. The other films, I got serious qualms about. I look at that list, and I think that MAYBE two of them could work. "Spy Hunter" might succeed, if for no other reason than John Woo. "Doom" might do well also, but I don't think it's safe at all to start labelling that a "blockbuster", especially since there's been a dozen or so movies in the last 5 years that have been made based on video games that were pure, unadulterated shit and justifiably did shit at the box office.
