For everyone here that doesn't believe in Heaven..

Recommended Posts

If it helps any...

When my stepmom was on her deathbed she would fall in and out consinous, when she came back she kept saying "It's so beautiful" and saying she saw her mother and father. So SOMETHING has to be there.

::snaps fingers:: I don't see any tigers around, so my snapping my fingers MUST be keeping them away.

There are other biological explanations for this sort of thing. If the body is in a condition predisposed to dreams or hallucinations and the person has a preconceived idea of heaven, it's not at all surprising that she would see what she expected.

This has always been my personal belief...

Imagine a bunch of ants running around not knowing about a god or any devine being.. imagine a dog living his daily life without having to appease a superior force in the vain hope of having a good afterlife.

I feel humans are cursed with intellect, humans are also cursed with the fact that they cant accept the fact that their lives are meaningless and they have to turn to a god to justify their lives or they have to concot theories to give their lives meaning

My father died on jan 7th 2001. Its hard to believe I will never see him again... and believe me, I would kill for the chance to see him again, But he raised me as an atheist, and therefore I do believe that this is our only shot at life.

I know how painful a loss can be, and some seek comfort in thinking that they will see people again... but the concept of Heaven holds a flaw I cant grasp.

My father was an atheist.. he loved my mother.

My mother wasnt an atheist.. she loved my father.

My father is dead, Supposedly waiting in heaven for my mother... But since my fathers death, My mother loves another man.. that man then dies waiting in heaven to see my mother. when my mother dies, Who does my mother go to? and for the person she doesnt go to.. is he in heaven or in hell?

Heaven is a place where nothing ever happens.

no, it's a boiler room on top of a hospital.

I too ask myself these questions all the time. The only one that i can really see is that my "life" is one grand illusion and when I die the illusion ends and all matter in the universe will cease to exsist. After that I'm guessing another illusion will start that could be similar to this one or nothing like it at all.

I'm not an atheist, nor agnostic, but I don't believe in any kind of organised religion. Not opposed to it, it's just not for me. However, I do believe in the Christian ideas of "love thy nieghbour' and the Christian concept of heaven and hell.

I can't imagine not believing in anything, but that's just me. My concept of heaven is exatcly what makes you happy, in my case a repeating day of breakfast, the last hour of work(a combination of satisfaction of fulfilling a job and the feeling of release from work), a round of golf at Augusta National, lunch, some video games, some beers, a little tv, playing my guitar and dinner and bed with my girlfriend.

Hell, it seems to me, isn't the torture it's made to be, with the violence and what not.....just all kinds of little pet peeves that really irritate you.

Sometimes.... just sometimes... I run into posts like these, and I want to live again. Thank you, netslob, and thank you MST3K.

Another problem with heaven: okay, let's say that you die and go to heaven. But your parents, spouse, children, and friends all go to hell. Are you happy?

I can give you all the definition of Heaven and Hell from a Christian perspective, but it would only make sense if you took the concepts seriously and you probably were a Christian. I used to wonder that myself, but really if you think about it it's a no-brainer.

You know, I once asked a priest that exact same question when I was in primary school. He told me that when you enter heaven and look upon God, you forget about everything and anything that has ever happend to you, including family members and the like.

No, I'm serious. Really.

That gibberish translates into..."nothing happens, you just cease to be".

Heaven and Hell is just a bunch of nonsense, but I do believe in something you could say. I believe that my earthly life is most important and that I should live it like death is the end of me. Living by rules that can restrict your Earthly life just to hopefully get into some mystical place makes no sense to me at all.

The hardcore anti-religious types either 1.are anti-semetic anyway, or 2.curiously forget about The Original Chosen People when they go on their anti-Christian rants.

anytime, pal. AoO deserves some credit, too.

and for the record, i'm not anti-religion. i know i come off as such, but it's really not the case. i support the right for anyone to believe anything they want to believe. if believing in God gives you faith and helps you thru the day, than that's great, seriously, good for you. it just doesn't personally work for me.

but, i have a problem with people who use religion for their own means, like using God to preach intolerance. like this recent anti-gay thing. they forget that, if God does indeed exist, and he created EVERYTHING, that means he created gays, too. maybe homosexuality is in his "Divine Plan". but no, some guy(s) wrote down in a book 2,000 years ago (and it was man who wrote the bible...i highly doubt a supreme deity would spend time writing books when he, y'know, has whole galaxies to worry about) that gays are BAD, and are GOING TO HELL for LAYING WITH A MAN AS ONE LAYS WITH A WOMAN or some such nonsense. they were wrong, and it's bullshit.

keep in mind, 2,000 years ago, there weren't alot of people, at least not as many as there are now. so procreation was important for the advance ment of the human race. so these people thought "Well, maybe if we tell people God says that guys screwing other guys is a one way ticket to the Pit, they won't do it and settle down with a nice shepard's daughter". that way, they can scare people into heterosexuality, and then they'll have more kids, and more people = more followers. it's basically mind control.

fast forward to now, where there are alot more people and more followers, but now the church has another motive. less homos = more families = more followers = more money. and that's basically the game their in.

but some of it is merely hate. they hate gays for commiting sexual acts that are "repulsive" or "ungodly", despite the fact it has nothing to do with them. they don't like the idea of people living lifestyles different from their own, so they lash out at them and oppress them, all the while using their faith as an excuse. our president is a good example. Jerry Falwell is another. and they're wrong. do you think the man who said "Love Thy Neighbor" really meant "Love Thy Neighbor, Just As Long As He's Not a Fag". i doubt it.

i also have a problem with people who constantly have to let me know that they're Christian. they can't go 2 sentences without saying "Jesus". i don't go around telling people i'm an atheist. i don't preach atheism. if someone asks me, i'll tell them. i don't advertise it. i also don't like people who are hellbent (if you'll pardon the pun) to try and convert me to the flock. i've dealt with these people, and try my damndest to be polite. but sometimes it doesn't sink in. i almost got into a fist-fight with one once when i politely refused his pamphlet. this guy wouldn't take no for an answer.

so that's my problem with religion. like i said, if faith in something greater then you helps you get up in the morning and helps you try and make sense out of this fucked up world, more power to you. i'm not saying all Christians and priests and church-officials are gay-bashers or hate-mongers and are pushy or greedy. but some are. and when you use your faith as a get-rich-quick scheme and a platform for hate, your an asshole, and should be identified as such. and some of them need to realize Christianity isn't for everyone. and that's all there is to it.

and no, i have nothing against Jews, either. but that's a whole 'nother rant.

Actually, your rant there WAS about Jews. The anti-gay stuff people always quote is from the Old Testament. So really replace 2,000 years with--5,000 years?
