Possible Location for WrestleMania 22

Recommended Posts

"WWE is considering Calgary Stadium as a potential site for Wrestlemania 22 in Spring 2006.

The stadium holds around 45,000, but more notably, is close to where Bret Hart grew up and could lead to speculation of his involvement in the event or a Hall of Fame proceeding.

Take this for what it's worth, folks - just saw it a couple of minutes ago on wrestling.insidepulse.com. Calgary? I don't know, just seems a little contrived - this "Bret Hart will be at WrestleMania" thing pops up at least a couple of times a year.

I've got this odd feeling that WrestleMania may end up being somewhere like Charlotte, NC next year - new arena, huge market, I could definitely see it happening. I personally think Vince is done with doing WM's at domed stadiums until business starts to pick up again, so a new high-profile arena like Charlotte, in an area that's never had a WrestleMania, could definitely be in the cards . . . .

Any thoughts on this rumor and/or where you think it might be?

I live in Calgary, and there is no such thing as the "Calgary Stadium"

There is Burns Stadium and McMahon Stadium, but no "Calgary Stadium" as far as I know.

And I doubt they would have Wrestlemania in a outdoor arena in Calgary during March/April, because of Calgary's incosisent weather during those times.

That was my thought, I'd never heard of it either . . .

McMahon Stadium? Heh, that would be too funny. WM22 at McMahon Stadium.

Hopefully WWE is looking at Calgary as a possible Wrestlemania 22 location.

We are argubly the best wrestling city in the world. The crowd would be crazy, I would for sure go.

If it does happen, it would problay be in the Saddledome.

I had heard Montreal, Miami and Detroit were the top choices. But that was a few months ago.

I would love it in Calgary but you would have to think if it was going to be in Canada it would be in Toronto or Montreal.

I'd like to see a Superdome Wrestlemania, if business picks up again enough to sell the tickets.

Wrestlemania sells tickets based on name recognition alone, even today, the WWE could probobly still run Wrestlemania at the Silverdome with Triple H vs Heidenreich as the main event and still sell the place out.

I wouldn't believe anything that can't even get the simple name of the stadium correct.

Calgary Stadium? Idiots. McMahon, Burns (only seats 7000, is a baseball stadium), Saddledome, Corral (again, around 7000 but this is an actual arena). Those are the possibilities for Calgary.

Sounds like another traditional "Bret's going to be @ Mania" rumor

Calgary doesn't have a big enough venue to properly host WM.

I believe Detroit will host WM23 on the 20th ann. of WMIII and host it @ Ford Field. Silverdome is basically falling down on its own and could hardly host another major event.

Charlotte, Miami, Dallas, New Orleans and St. Louis are the only major markets to never host a Wrestlemania. Charlotte; to me is the best choice considering it's a classic wrestling market, new large venue and all. Miami doesn't have "large" arena and already has The 2006 rumble. That eliminates Miami. Dallas is a good choice but Houston recently hosted a WM and Im not sure if they are wanting to go back to Texas just yet. New Orleans just isn't a wrestling hotbed and I think Vince knows at this point selling out the Superdome is highly unlikely. St. Louis is another classic wrestling market that deserves a show. It also has a large dome venue as well.

However; I wonder with the large emphasis on International shows; could Vince be willing to do a show from Japan or London? I know the time zones are totally different but with the internet and such, I could easily see them doing it or risk perhaps having the american fans adjust from the usual 8 PM start and start @ noon instead(of course offering rerun @ the standard american time).

I was thinking; Wouldn't a wrestlemania event concievably bring in alot of increased economic boost for Calgary? Perhaps they could add another 15k seats to those baseball stadiums. It's done for other major events. However, I strongly doubt vince is going to work an outdoor show in CANADA of all places, even if it's pushed to mid april, isn't it still in the low 60s? and likely raining too.

Silly and perhaps stupid question; Calgary hosted the Winter Games in 1988, didn't they have a big venue for the opening/closing ceremonies? Isn't that venue still around? I mean Montreal still has that shitty stadium as does Atlanta(basically turned that into the baseball stadium I believe).

McMahon Stadium holds 35 000 plus for football, so for wrestling it could easily top 45 000. Saddledome is bigger than MSG, too.

The Saddledome, man.

What, exactly, do you consider a "major market"? I can think of a lot of cities bigger than a few of those listed that haven't had a WM.

San Diego

San Antonio

Dallas

Detroit*

San Jose

Indy*

Jacksonville

SF

Columbus

Austin

Memphis

Baltimore

Milwakue

Fort. Worth

Charlotte

El Paso

Boston*

Seattle*

D.C

You can take out San Diego, SF and San Jose since i strongly doubt they will do two straight Californian Mania's. Jacksonville doesn't have a major indoor venue. Phx is certaintly a open choice but it's pratically another californian location. San Antonio is a possibility. Columbus isn't appealing enough for a Mania location and it's not a good city anyways wrestling wise. Memphis is a strong wrestling market. As is Baltimore. Ft.Worth is basically shared with dallas for big venue, so i merged those two into one. Milwakue is possible but is vince going to do a second baseball field in 5 years? and DC hosts the 2005 SummerSlam.

Bring it to Milwaukee. Miller Park or the Bradley Center (or even the US Cellular Arena) would be a great place for WM.

Even Chi-Town wouldn't be bad... drive an hour to see WrestleMania live? I'd SO do it.

Bradley Center is the most mundane venue on the NBA circuit I think. Though the event staff can't be beat.

U.S. Cellular Arena holds 9,000 people.

It would have to be Miller Park. I think Wrigley Field would be cooler though. "Intensity Amidst the Ivy."

You're seriously one of the stupidest posters ever.

Brutally cold in April in Chicago? Do you think Chicago is in Alaska or something?

Phoenix is a Californian Mania? WTF?

San Jose is "warm" and yet Fresno, which is SOUTH of San Jose, is "cold"?

Were you sick the day they went over geography?
