strummer 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2005 from 411: Acclaim isn't enough for "Arrested Development"... "American Dad" was such a ratings hit for FOX following the Super Bowl, the network has moved it to what it considers a better timeslot. The show will now air Sundays at 8:30PM ET, right after "The Simpsons" and right before "Family Guy." The show was originally slated to air at 9:30PM ET after "Family Guy." Because of the change, FOX has decided to end "Arrested Development" by April and order fewer episodes for the next season. "Arrested Development" has been a hit with critics, but has been unable to draw a large audience. Credit: Zap2it.com
Exslade ZX 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2005 American Dad isn't a reality show... Or do I just not get the tagline because it's worded kind of...meh :s
Guest The Shadow Behind You Report post Posted February 10, 2005 Figured this would happen. Why not just Place Arrested Development @ 930 instead? Simpsons, American Dad, Family Guy, Arrested Development. They do realize that the reason AD was a hit was because it was after a really close football game right? See how it performs on a normal night before shitcanning your own and only critically acclaimed show.
Hank Kingsley 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2005 NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO well, better to 'cut down' than outright cancel it. But still. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
TheBigSwigg 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2005 It's all because they put the "I Just Blue Myself" in the forum descriptions. I'd bet my cat on it.
Guest The Shadow Behind You Report post Posted February 10, 2005 NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO well, better to 'cut down' than outright cancel it. But still. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO It's actually worst. They still own the rights and can pigeonhole them into the summer lineup. While if they were downright canceled, they could easily find a spot on Comedy Central or Bravo.

Boner Kawanger 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2005 Now I have no reason to watch Fox on Sundays. Seriously, that's going to be one soul crushing ninety minutes of animation. Stale Simpsons and repetative, formulatic MacFarlene MacFun Hour.
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2005 Yeah. Um, American Dad is not that good. Seth should be working on Family Guy, not both. "The family continued to chant 'speech, speech, speech'...for nobody in particular." sigh
Guest Failed Mascot Report post Posted February 10, 2005 If Fox was smart they would stick with what they originally planned. 8pm Simpsons 8:30pm Arrested Development(which I still haven't seen and was told to buy Season 1 of) 9pm Family Guy 9:30pm American Dad
The Czech Republic 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2005 way to say exactly what I was about to say, Frigid King of the Hill Malcolm in the Middle Simpsons Arrested Development Family Guy American Dad that makes everyone happy. See that way, once you make it through Family Guy, you have the option on whether you're up for another half hour of a cartoon where everyone has the same guy doing the voices and scrotums for chins. strummer 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2005 I Fucked up the tagline, I thought American Dad was the reality show where the girl has to choose who her real father is. I could see Bravo picking up the show if it is cancelled
Gary Floyd 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2005 Bullshit. I think we know what this means. Online petition. Sadly, those usually don't work. As much as this sucks, it's not surprising, seeing how past shows that I have enjoyed (Or I never was interested in but have a huge Following none the less) where treated: Futurama Andy Richter Controls the Universe Undeclared Greg the Bunny Firefly John Doe Get a Life The list goes on. Fox has a way of treating awesomne shows like shit. Hell, they didn't even like "Married With Children" that much, (See the E! True Hollywood Story for more about that)
The Fett 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2005 I can't for the life of me understand why this show is still not a hit. There have been good shows cancelled prematurely before, but never a show this good with this much critical acclaim.

I don't feel enough anything about Futurama to care whether it lives or dies, and I wish the Joss Whedon shows were blasted from existence, so I'm with Fox on those. But yeah this is wicked lame

starvenger 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2005 Online petitions generally don't work for TV shows. You're probably better off contacting your local Fox station...
Guest Failed Mascot Report post Posted February 10, 2005 Fox also turned down Seinfeld when NBC didn't pick it up at first. Unless the show is called The Simpsons they don't seem to care about it now.

starvenger 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2005 Fox also turned down Seinfeld when NBC didn't pick it up at first. Unless the show is called The Simpsons they don't seem to care about it now. Not true. They love them some American Idol.

Curb Your Enthusiasm is a similar type of comedy, but it's a big ratings success. Perhaps if the show is cancelled, HBO or Showtime can pick it up.
Guest The Shadow Behind You Report post Posted February 10, 2005 At least American Idol brings in the money and ratings; Simpsons doesn't do that anymore outside of the DVD sales.
razazteca 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2005 American Dad will be cancelled in 2 months and will be in constant reruns on Cartoon Network which will make it a cult hit. What does Arrested Development have to look forward to other than the possibility of being picked up by A&E or TBS if they are lucky.

Curb Your Enthusiasm is a similar type of comedy, but it's a big ratings success. Perhaps if the show is cancelled, HBO or Showtime can pick it up. Actually... Larry David said on one of the special features for season 3 of Curb, that they don't get great ratings...it's just that HBO doesn't care that much. HBO doesn't sell advertising...so critical acclaim is more than enough to keep them happy. Fox on the other hand...
Guest Askewniverse Report post Posted February 10, 2005 Dammit. Arrested Development is one of the few shows I watch on a regular basis. I have a bad feeling that Fox is going to treat Arrested Development like they did Family Guy. I can't for the life of me understand why this show is still not a hit. There have been good shows cancelled prematurely before, but never a show this good with this much critical acclaim. No laugh track Shot like a documentary not sitcom Requires you to think Self-referential Those are most of the reasons why I like the show.

treble 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2005 Motherfucker. I can't really say I blame them (based on the show's ratings), but I figured the fact that every critic seems to cream themselves over the show would be enough for them to give it another year or so to find an audience. I hate life sometimes.
2GOLD 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2005 So wait, "Arrested" gets bumped because a show after the god damn SUPER BOWL did well in ratings? Lots of people don't even bother to change the channel, just sit and get drunk. What kind of moron is running the FOX programming department???
Guest Failed Mascot Report post Posted February 10, 2005 What are the Simpsons getting for ratings these days? I mean a stale and dying animated sitcom being your lead-in isn't something that is going to help. Of course they'll never cancel the Simpsons.
