Is Anybody Watching 24/7

Recommended Posts

I'd like to know...are the matches full length and is that Monday Night War show actual Raws and Nitros? I'd love any thoughts or details on the "channel" as it were...

"WWE 24/7 relives the week-by-week WAR waged between Turner and WWE, with exclusive retrospective commentary and insight interspersed among Raw and Nitro's best battles – a back-story to wrestling's backbone. Each episode presents Monday Night Raw and Monday Nitro in their entirety, with compelling insight by host Michael Cole."

Compelling insight from Michael Cole?

Right... So does anyone know when/if DirecTV will be making WWE 24/7 available?

Satellite television doesn't have the capabilities at this point to present Video On Demand. I have DirecTV as well and this makes me majorly mad but we have to live with it, at least we get our channels in digital quality. But anyway, if WWE would prepare a cable TV schedule to send out to satellite/standard cable companies, this will make more money. If DirecTV will carry a channel devoted to Motorsports, Football and Basketball, then I'm sure that it would carry wrestling but the technology isn't there and WWE is too lazy to compremise at the moment.

I've got some of the tapes. Incredible VQ, especially on the older stuff. The MSG shows are a treat to watch.

I don't have any of the Raws/Nitros, but from what I understand they are the full shows with intros from Micheal Cole. I'm not 100% sure, though.

A digital cable company willing to carry it. No special box or nothing; just any digital cable company such as Time Warner.

it's hardly available in America as well. I doubt it'll get off and running until fall 2005... if at all.

It's already been going for several months.

Obviously it has been but hardly many people have it; thus it's not really off and running yet; it's still mired in the dark to most of it's fanbase. I was saying it would like get going around fall of 2005.

Yeah, I bought a 2-disc copy of Starrcade '83 recorded from 24/7 back in December from someone on another message board. Needless to say, I was astounded - it was practically as good as buying a store-bought DVD for sound and video quality. If we ever do get 24/7 in this area, I'll definitely be investing in a stand-alone DVD recorder. That stuff is just too good not to have recorded.

If you haven't seen it on your tv; they dont have it.

Im sure the WWE24/7 site has a listing of the companies carrying it.

Actually no, the website doesn't list any of the companies that carry it, which is an indication that not many do (I still haven't heard anything beyond one cable company in Pennsylvania) and thus there's nothing to really list. Reports are it's been a lot slower an idea to sell to cable companies then they anticipated. Comcast better get on this soon, they have every other On Demand channel it seems....

Someone clear this up for me... What DO you have to have in order to obtain this channel?

It's a digital cable technology called "On Demand". You have an on screen database of shows that you can select from and watch starting any program at any time and pausing it and rewinding it like a tape or DVD. The way 24/7 works would be like HBO or SHowtime On Demand, in that you pay a monthy fee to the cable company to get access to the menu of shows on your digital box. Then you can watch any of the shows in the category.

The ExpressVu satellites in Canada have that, but not for WWE 24/7 I don't think. I would have to buy a new box though since I've got the old cheap boxes from 8 years ago.

I doubt Canada will be getting this channel now that The Fight Network is coming later this year.

In addition to Directv's rollout of 3 new satellites to increase their HD channel offerings upwards of 1500 (including locals and national networks) by 2007, they are also working on a Satellite Tuner with a hard drive/DVR and the ability to recieve on demand programing, and it will be released sometime soon.

So if you have Directv, theres hope!

They actually did specifically mention satellite providers in an earlier press release. I believe they are working on creating an actual broadcast station like I have been nagging for since the beginning.

I'd bet dollars to doughnuts it's free.

VOD services, including "networks" that exist only on VOD like The Concert Network or The Anime Network (although recently the latter added their own broadcast variant, it's only provided by one regional carrier in the entire country and no others) are free.

The only thing pay on any carrier I heard of are PPVs and the HBO/Starz/Showtime On Demand sections, where you need to be a subscriber of the live channels to get into the VOD sections.

My understanding is that the WWE wasn't actively trying to get cable companies to carry this. They are relying more on the fans to bug the cable companies to carry it for them. A rather lousy strategy, IMO, but that's how it is. It is probably going to be a good year or so before WWE 24/7 is more widely available.
