Live from Saitama, It's Velociday Night!

Recommended Posts

Starting this one up early because they give The Best Feud Going Today time.

Their first Velocity match raised the bar. Their second match continued the tradition. Now, they look to steal the show one more time. AKIO/LONDON III: Death from Above~!

The attention was brought to this feud after what you would call their second match.

I can't wait to see Akio-London tonight. It should be an awesome match.

Rey vs. Angle on SD was great too imho.

Opening spot, probably. Or, since the WWE hates me, during the Bateman monologue.

Dupree seems to be in the main event.

Feb. 12, 2005

Last week, the French Phenom, Rene Dupree, failed to move on in the No. 1 contender's tournament for the WWE Championship. This week he will be back in action and taking on Hardcore Holly. Will Dupree be able to turn his luck around? Tune in to find out.

Plus, take a look back at SmackDown! John Cena took on Orlando Jordan and Kurt Angle took on Rey Mysterio in the final matchups of the first round of the No. 1 contender's tournament for the WWE Championship. Angle has headlined the last two WrestleManias. Find out if he was able to keep his hopes alive for a third straight main event.

Also, JBL will be taking on Big Show on Feb. 20 at No Way Out in a Barbed Wire Steel Cage Match for the WWE Championship. With the odds stacked against him once again, JBL turns to an unlikely source for help - Godzilla.

And you won't want to miss the fast-paced, heart-pounding cruiserweight action when Paul London takes on Japan's own Akio. London and Akio have had classic battles on Velocity before, and this contest is sure to be no different.

Don't miss Velocity this Saturday at 11/10 p.m. CT on Spike TV.

I kinda like how WWE has a feud on Velocity, to make it seem like a show to watch, but it sucks because it get minimal exposure. I think it'd be cool if they did the matches on Velocity, but gave it some buildup on Smackdown. Let London have an interview with Matthews. Or show a video package. Give people a reason to say "Hey, I really want to see this! Everybody has been saying these guys are awesome!"

Unless, there's a part five. At the moment, it's 2-1 to London, Akio could win tonight (no spoilers, please), making it 2-2. The fifth match could be THE FINAL CHAPTER!

Even throw away comments like

*Eddie passes by London while walking to the ring. The announcers are talking about Eddie and how he has a big match coming up, but also says...*

Tazz: And there's Paul London. Smackdown superstar.

Cole: I hear he's been making quite the stir lately.

Tazz: Oh no doubt, his matches with Akio on Velocity are makin some noise in the locker room and with the fans. If you haven't seen those two wrestle yet, you're missin out.

Cole: Most definitely, just like Eddie is missing out on this WWE Championship contenders tournament.

That's like 10 seconds of TV time.

Yeah, I agree Rudo. If WWE ever wanted to, which as of right now seems unlikely, they could jump start the cruiser division with these two alone. Kinda how like the E&C/Hardy's ladder match at No Mercy '99 did for the tag division. Let them go crazy at a Smackdown only PPV, because it'll no doubt steal the show, then BAM!, people care about the cruiserweights.

But if you consider this part III, then it's the RUBBER MATCH!

But that means less London/Akio awesomeness. This match tonight can't be the end of the feud. We need this match, then a fifth...then a return match in March...and then a ladder match at WM21...TO SETTLE THE SCORE!

Yep, there's so many cliched ways they could get that division over. They could do one spot where Akio/London die, refs and EMT's are called out, but they refuse help and want to continue wrestling. However, the ring-side doctors call the match off. Both guys are concussed, suffering internal injuries, etc. The announcers play it up as two guys who finally got their shot on the big show are now having it being taken away from them.

You could then have them fighting throughout the arena jumping off shit trying to get noticed over the next few weeks, because the WWE isn't giving them any more matches on Smackdown. Make Velocity an ECW-esque underground environment. Have Shannon Moore in the crowd holding a "Velocity, Saturday at 11" sign. Have Nunzio interupt a promo yelling out "LONDON vs. AKIO! VELOCITY!".

Hey, that'd be pretty cool! And maybe they could all group attack Rey (well, the heel cruisers at least if anything) for being a traitor?

And they should have Billy Kidman turn on the Velocity guys, and jump to Smackdown.

Kidman: "Man, you guys are a bunch of retards. Fuck you, I'm leaving."

*Double Superkick from London/Akio*

And then one of Rey's heavyweight friends try to help him out, and HE gets punked too! Maybe Eddie, someone who's been to the top of the mountain and forgot his cruiser roots? They should really do something like this. It'd make Smackdown seem more exciting.

The scary part about this thread, if you all have made me want to catch Velocity for the first time in like months. It's kind of sad that WWE cares not one iota about this show that they could use as a sort of "AAA" to get some of their under utilised talent over. I mean lest we forget that Stephanie, the head writer, had no idea Stevie Richards was doing his "Stevie Night Heat" commisioner gimmick until like months after...

Guys...hate to break it to you, but most WWE fans don't care about London or Akio. That's why they don't make a big deal about it on Smackdown. Yeah, they could start pushing them, promote Velocity, blah blah blah...but it's not going to happen.

And why would they have a ladder match at WM? Neither of them hold a title...and WWE isn't going to waste time at Wrestlemania on a low card match like that.
