Head 2 Head Fantasy Baseball 2005

Well..Eric Gagne goes on the 15 Day DL...but Im gonna have to wait til Week 2 to put him on the DL, damnit.

Even though I was all for the weekly rosters, my opinion is starting to change rather quickly. At least I was able to move Aquino to the 2nd RP spot for the week..but it doesn't even seem worth putting Gagne on the DL next week when he'll be off of it by the end of next week (hopefully).

You can change your rosters each Monday, meaning you can change them this Monday (the 4th).

Sure, I understand that, but that doesnt mean I have to like it. It takes me away from focusing on that team. I have about 8 different fantasy leagues that i check out everyday to make roster moves and such, but when I cant change anything about my team during the week why would I even bother to keep track of it? It just was always way more fun for me to be able to micro-manage my teams throughout the week.

I just dont like that every league we do on here for all sports has to have new rules every year because some people don't like losing.

On the flip side, some players cannot check their lineups every day, and this gives them the chance to set their lineups. It involves more strategy because a player must look ahead to the entire week.

I suggested alot of these changes, and I WON the damned league.

Also it makes lineup setting/pitching setting much more important with weekly lineups. Do you start your 1B playing at home in Fenway or do you start the bench 1B playing at Coors who's hit .301/.394/.500 in his career at Coors?

Things like that make it much more interesting because you have to look forward the whole week as far as matchups and try and decide who is the best fit at every position for that week.

Then when two of your players get hurt on Monday you lose the head to head matchup without having much chance at all.

Yeah, but there is an equal chance of that happening to your opponent. In theory, it should even out. Unless it is a key player that you lost, you could probably make up for it. Heck, I am in a weekly fantasy basketball league, and I have seen several teams pull out victories, despite having an injured player in their starting lineup. Weekly or daily, if you lost a key player or two, you would probably lose anyway.

It didn't take too long for the weeky rosters to bite me in the ass, Kris Benson put on the DL right after the rosters are locked in place. Of course Kris Benson sucks so not having him pitch will probably help my stats, though i need his innings to reach the minimum innings pitched.

Lordy, is EVERYONE injuried this year? I mean, bloody hades, the place is just filled with people being on the DL. Sure only 15 days, but seriously, tons of people on DL right now.

12 Teams have at least one player on the DL...

I think I have to be the worst of the bunch with 4 guys on the DL to start the season. On the flip side, after discovering those injuries, I am really happy this is a weekly league.

Well, barring some sort of miracle, Im going to lose all my pitching points this week (not that I had much of a chance to win them anyway..) since theres like a very slim chance I'll get 30 IP this week. Im currently at 19.1 with Hampton still pitching maybe for 2 more innings, and then all I've got for the rest of the week is Jake Peavy starting. So unless my RP work a couple innings, Im not gonna make it.

I dont really know how I could avoid this in a weekly format though. I guess the answer would be "get better pitchers".

Another way to look at it:

If you have a pitcher get hurt and miss a start, you might as well not even worry about your pitching points because you more than likely wont get to 30 IP and then you'll automatically be down 0-4. The margin for error some weeks is going to be that slim and other weeks when you get pitchers who make 2 starts, it won't matter..

I'm gonna be pushing it to make the 30 innings minimum, at 10.2 with Jeff Weaver, El Duque and Javier Vasquez with starts this week. If they can all get about 6 innings Percival and Guardado should be able to take up the extra three or so innings. Though if Vasquez stinks up the joint with another 37.80 ERA performance i'll probably lose all the pitching games anyway.

It's clear i'm going to be relying on my offence to win basically every category in order for me to win this year.

Wow, I didn't know about this 30 minimum innings pitched rule. Looking at my stats I might just barely make it depending on how my others starters do. What exactly is the point of this rule? And what happens if both teams don't have the minimum logged? Are all the pitching stats just waved?

The point of the rule is to make sure that you pitch someone in all your spots every week, rather than leaving some shitty fifth starter on the bench because you're afraid he'll sink your ERA and WHIP. I can see how a mid-week injury would make things difficult, but honestly, as long as the rest of your team pitches fairly well, you should still have a better than 50/50 shot at making the requirement. I'd say don't worry about it too much until you actually start losing games because of it.

I just noticed that my three Aces will start TWO~ games this week! So if my math is correct then that makes 9 starts this week for me.

See it should be either/or.

Either we have weekly lineups and a lower minimum, or we have daily lineups and a higher minimum.

I think it's time to move Smoltz back to the Closer role, STAT!

1.2 innings

32.40 ERA

4.80 WHIP

:P Aw, boo-hoo... You know, that and Lima basically fucked you over for even having a shot at getting the ERA category from me.

I dont really know how I could avoid this in a weekly format though.  I guess the answer would be "get better pitchers".

BTW, I don't think day-to-day would've helped you much either on that one.

As for the IP, HarleyQuinn just shelled me with a message that pretty much read:

"Change the minimum IP, otherwise we are all fucked."

More or less. Had a lot more niceness to it, but that's what he summed it up. Its 24 IP right now (and that goes for this week).

It's clear i'm going to be relying on my offence to win basically every category in order for me to win this year.

Considering you can only win 5 categories on either side, your offense ain't gonna get you 5 all the time, and then you are fucked. So don't just have an offense based team.

What exactly is the point of this rule? And what happens if both teams don't have the minimum logged? Are all the pitching stats just waved?

Not having you sit there with just 1-3 pitchers and get just the bear minimum of stats need to win most of the categories. Both teams fail to achieve, both have all pitching stats waved (which means teams draw).

See it should be either/or.

Either we have weekly lineups and a lower minimum, or we have daily lineups and a higher minimum.

I originally had it at 25 before, so if you want to blame someone for the 30, look at the new commish (who has now changed it to 24 which I'm assuming it stays, but I'm not him so no idea).

And can we shut up on the day-to-day roster stuff or weekly? The league is a weekly so just deal with it.

When I changed it to 30, I figured that well...pitchers would bloody pitch and not go 5-6 innings every start when they're pitching well.
