Head 2 Head Fantasy Baseball 2005

Recommended Posts

I've made a counter offer to Slapnuts!

Flik, for Burnett, i'd need a little more.

...I meant to put up trades for Burnett and Harden, but I guess I put Burnett twice. Dammit.

I'll make a different offer, but when I say opening offer it means "ok here's what I want, I know what I'm offerings not that good so let me know what you expect and we'll haggle from there". I'm getting tired of explaining this to everyone.

Give me a bit to figure out how to make the trade "right" from the get go.

Re-offer made for Harden alone. Please counter it if you don't like it.

Ok... Apparently negotiations have broken down. Oh well.

...oh, and I demand that next season we drop a bench and add another UTL position.

I've got too many good offensive players on my bench these days. Its not fair.

OMG~! Blockbuster between me and treble.

Rockbirds get:

J. Schmidt

M. Lowell

Brockvegas Posse get:

FUCKED

Edited for clarity. Jason Schmidt's the best pitcher in baseball, and Mike Lowell's still going to turn it around and have a great year. Even at three for two, this deal looks one-sided to me.

Jason Schmidt best pitcher in baseball? Maybe . In terms of our league stats?

Just for the bloody hadian of it:

Top 25 Starters And Who They Belong To

01) P. Martinez - Pawtucket Red Sox

02) D. Willis - Gotham Harlequins

03) J. Santana - Pocono Poison

04) J. Beckett - Warts Whackos

05) J. Moyer - Brockvegas Posse

06) J. Peavy - NuclearChairshots

07) R. Oswalt - NuclearChaitshots

08) M. Buehrle - Hawai'i 5-0

Schmidt barely makes the top 25 pitchers in our league for stats. So no, its not as lopsided as you'd think.

...although, I can't believe that Marquis and Halladay are side by side for fantasy gettings.

Honestly you really can't take APRIL statistics into cosideration for who the best pitchers/hitters in baseball are.

That is a terribly lopsided deal IMHO.

In an ironic twist, I noticed we're playing each other this week which means the players we traded will still be on our team for this one last series against each other...

Statistics in general aren't a good way of judging a good player. However, in terms of a fantasy league, that's what makes the best the best.

Yes, April statistics might not be the best way of doing it either, but as of right now, he's not that high on the list.

Yeah, give it about three months; I guarantee you Schmidt will be in the Top 3.

Statistically? I doubt it. He'd need at least 12 wins in 3 months time, at least an ERA of 3.25, and a WHIP of 1.00 with the way some of the pitchers are going this season.

And just for humor...

Cliff Floyd is the best hitter on my team...I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Also for the trade: Yeah it looks lopsided on paper but it's all about what happens in the real world. Players put up career years, players decline, and players get injured.

So I went through the rankings based on what we've played through and who's been drafted where and who made the biggest steals in terms of current rankings and when they were drafted:

Jason Marquis (Taken in Round 8) and Jason Lane (Taken in Round 12), both by Warts Whackos.

Something to humor your day.

Argument could be made for Roberts, yes. However, I based it on the fact that Lane was drafted nearly 5 rounds lower (hell we only had 14 rounds, so he nearly wasn't drafted) and is nearly Top 10 material.

However, I just did it based on what has happened so far. Hence, Lane could fall to the wayside and Roberts continues as he is, you'll get credit for it at the end of the year. Just did a here and now thing for the hell of it.

What about Brian Roberts (taken in Round 7)? He's the best damn player in baseball right now.

I got Mike Hampton in the 13th Round. Considering how some of my other wonderful draftees have done, I consider him a steal.

2-0 1.17 ERA 1.04 WHIP, Hes also gone 8 innings his last 3 starts.

He'd be higher ranked if he had more than just 9 ks in 30 IP. He'd also be higher ranked if the Braves would score more runs for him as they scored a grand total of 3 runs in his 2 no decisions (2-1 win, 2-1 loss) vs 17 runs in his 2 wins (6-2 and 11-2 wins).

And yes, I know his career ERA is close to 4 and WHIP over 1.40, but we might as well compare Brian Roberts career numbers, and Im willing to bet, as big an O's fan that I am, that Hampton will keep up his numbers longer than Roberts will (now watch him go give up 12 runs vs the Mets today..)

Its also really just a fluke that I have 4 of the top 50 batters right now cause I just added Carl Everett, but because I added him I doubt he'll stay hot. Im just extremely desperate to find hitting somewhere other than a trade that would cause me to lose my pitching.

Yeah, but you also mentioned Jason Marquis who was only drafted one round lower and is only the 13th best pitcher. Brian Roberts has the best stats in all of baseball right now according to Yahoo.

Just trying to make sure the AL-East leading Orioles (god, it feels good to say that) get their due.

For steals so far, how about Clint Barmes? Currently ranked 5th among batters and playing out of his mind, and he wasn't even drafted at all, i picked him up as a free agent on a whim before the season started. I seem to have good luck with free agents in this league, last year i grabbed Adrian Beltre and ended up with a MVP candidate. While i very much doubt Barmes will be that good he's looking like a runaway Rookie of the Year at least.

Yeah, but you also mentioned Jason Marquis who was only drafted one round lower and is only the 13th best pitcher.

There's a pitcher and a batter that I say are the best steals of the draft. Wouldn't common sense dictate that I'm speaking of both player respectively concerning what they do for a team? I would think so.

Again, Brian Roberts only didn't get steal written on him is because Lane was nearly not drafted and is nearly top 10 batter wise right now, hence he got installed. Check back in at the end of May and this will probably change (unless you know, Lane gets hot and Roberts gets cold).

As far as regular ol' steals go, I've got no idea, I just ran with the draft. You guys have fun with the other ones.

Maybe the perception was that he was only good for steals and 2B was weak position fantasy wise?

At least its not like Komijul who has pretty much destroyed any chances of me taking any of the batting stuff...

My only hope is my pitching staff wins all the stuff...

Wait... That's pretty much not going to happen.

*sigh* Guess I might as well look to next year...
