Just a question on the league? Are we going to add a DL spot? I think it would be handy if we did, but if not, I should probably just release Trachsel since he's not pitching for three to six months.

As HQ just asked, I'll inform everyone instead:

There are 2 DL spots on your team, but until Yahoo registers them as a DL, you can't do anything about it. I know, it sucks a bunch, but it happens.

Hey, what happened with the stat categories? During the draft, I thought we had losses and earned runs allowed as pitching categories, but now neither the league settings nor the front page of the thread have them listed.

If it was changed to get people to use their pitchers, I'd propose we leave one of them so that hitting doesn't become much more important than hitting, as there will still be an advantage to using pitchers if both wins and strikeouts count positively.

Right now, we have a minimum of 30 IP which places some emphasis on starting pitchers and guys who can go 6 IP or so. With 30 IP, you could conceivably have 5 starters all go 6 IP and reach the limit while also having the relievers go anywhere from 1-4 IP or more over the week. Not to mention that a team could conceivably have 6 SP as well (using a SP/RP).

Anyways, as far as the statistics go, we have 6 hitting statistics (excluding H/AB since that's Yahoo mandated) vs. 5 pitching stats. There's only one difference and I don't think it provides a greater emphasis on hitting.

Edited In: I cut out BA because that's technically included in OBP where a hit raises the OBP and an out lowers the OBP. So it should be 6 vs. 5 now.

Well, innings pitched is a mandated, non-competitive stat, so it's really 7 vs. 5.

I was almost sure that we had 7 vs. 7 with losses and earned runs during the draft, and all I was proposing was bringing one of them back, so that it was 7 vs. 6. One category's no big deal, but two does make a difference, particuarly for people who built there team around low-risk pitchers that wouldn't give up a lot of runs.

Why not just get rid of hits so it can be the basic 5x5 league?

That would be 6 x 5. OBP is a category in the league too. Personally, I think it should just be set the same as it was before the draft unless there's a good reason to change it. And I'm almost positive that those settings included losses and earned runs.

H/AB is a non-stat kind of like IP, its there but does not really mean anything. I was a fan of errors and pitching loses but I guess they were taken because some people did not like it. So the the stats that do count are Runs, Home Runs, RBI, Stolen Bases, OBP for the batting and Wins, Saves, Strikes, ERA, WHIP for pitching.

Yes they did. However, I ain't running the show, now am I?

Its something you have to expect when new leadership happens, it'll most likely lead to changes. And many of these changes will in fact be worth while, because it isn't some newbie to baseball running the show.

There'll probably be a few more changes (hey, I'm not HQ, I'm just guessing), but you'll need to trust the new guy in charge. He's feeling out what he believes is needed to be done to make the league a successful league.

Oh and the stuff has been changed to 5x5 stats. Check first post.

Yeah I know that hits matters and that it would of helped me win a few games since I have Michael Young who was a leader in that stat but overall it is implied in the OBP stat.

Yeah it sucks that the stats changed after the draft which screws up some strategy of mine but what can you do when the league had commish step down, a corporate takeover, and the power(s) that be want to make major changes.

Speaking of major changes....lets change this to a daily lineup format please :)

Now, that's a change we don't need. The last thing we need to do is shuffle pitchers constantly in an 18-team league. I think finding 7 solid pitchers per team is plenty.

I need some advice...

I've been offered a trade in one of my Fantasy Baseball leagues and I don't know what to do about it...

Bobby Abreu and John Smoltz

for

Ichiro Suzuki and Richie Sexson {on my team}

What should I do?

Posted

I would not do it. Abreu is a five category player. Ichiro gives you a nice batting average, but that tends to flucuate. Abreu actually stole more bases last season. Richie Sexson is an injury risk. There is some uncertainty regarding whether he will be the same hitter following the back injury. Smoltz has the potential to be an ace pitcher.

Unless you are the one getting Abreu and Smoltz, in which case I'd do it.

Just cause I like reporting stuff:

News

Angels third baseman Dallas McPherson was optioned to triple-A Salt Lake in order to give him more time to recover from a herniated disk in his lower back, according to the Los Angeles Times. He's expected to rejoin the team around April 15.

If you've already drafted, chances are someone in your league is sitting on McPherson. There's no need to worry because it sounds like he'll rejoin the team mid-April. However, if you haven't drafted, you may want to hold off on him and see what happens once he returns.

So yeah... just thought I'd share some news.

Indians placed outfielder Juan Gonzalez on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring.

''He's frustrated,'' manager Eric Wedge said. ''He believes this is the best thing to do right now. It's a long season. We want to give him a chance to get back to 100 percent.'' Gonzalez last played on Sunday, so he'll be eligible to come off the DL on April 11. We wouldn't count on him being ready then, though. Mar. 31 - 1:58 pm et

For you Al.

IMPORTANT

I expect everybody to participate in this league. That means if a guy goes on a 15 or 60 day DL, I expect him to be put on the DL/Bench on your team rather than taking up a starting position. If you decide to basically not play from say June or July or any other time on then inform me so I can lock your team. If there's failure to do so then I'll choke you with piano wire.

Remember, a vague disclaimer is nobodys friend.

Now have fun this season :)

So? Juan Gonzalez was a waiver wire pickup to hold a spot until Lance Berkman got back. So I find another outfielder. Big deal.
