LaParkaMarka Posted February 23, 2005 Report Posted February 23, 2005 You know, this is a really strange move. Why take on Moss' $7.5 million contract right after franchising Charles Woodson and resigning Jerry Porter? IIRC, Porter is getting $5 million? And Woodson gets $8 million or so as a franchise CB. So that's a good $20+ million in 3 players. What is this, the Colts?
Sass Posted February 23, 2005 Report Posted February 23, 2005 Gannon's $8 mill contract will be off the books next season. If that doesn't help matters then the Raiders can implode under the salary cap like the Redskins will in '06/'07. Woodson didn't earn his money last season. This year, there *will* be high expectations for the Raiders. I could so see Al Davis (when I really mean Jim Otto) strangling Norv Turner on the sidelines if the team misses the playoffs. No excuses. Carolina brought the hat last season and they were *depleted* with injuries and yet they almost went 8-8 with a playoff spot. That's why I love John Fox. Him, del Rio and Herman Edwards *will* win a SB each in the next 5 years. Andy Reid will probably win the SB next season anyways. The Eagles are still going to be a tough team to beat.
Guest Vitamin X Posted February 23, 2005 Report Posted February 23, 2005 I personally don't see what you're so excited about, Sass. This deal essentially just turns the Raiders into the AFC's version of the Vikings, minus the talented quarterback. Moss and the Raiders was a match made in heaven, though.
Sass Posted February 23, 2005 Report Posted February 23, 2005 I'm excited because if the Raiders bomb on the field, then the off-field shennanigans are surely going to make the news. That's entertainment. You're right though VX, it's like Randy is only switching jersey colors for next season. Except the Vikes had a Top 5 QB who can play ball without a handle of JD before a game. I'm completely intrigued by how Moss will do with the Raiders considering he lost a valuable arm at QB but gained a WR who can ball it up just as well as Randy on his good days. The WR tandem with Moss and Porter should be fun to watch. I like Ronald Curry a lot and I hope he can come back and play after having surgery on a torn achilles. That is *not* easy to recover from.
Guest Vitamin X Posted February 23, 2005 Report Posted February 23, 2005 If that's true, then expect the Raiders to win the division title every year, only to lose in the divisional round. EDIT: Wait a minute that sounds more like Green Bay.
Paul Stanley Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 Minnesotans rejoice. And Bledsoe signs with the 'Boys, THIS IS A GREAT DAY
Guest Flyboy Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 All the local stations are reporting that Randy Moss's agent has said a deal with the Raiders has been completed. Napoleon Harris and the 7th overall pick for Randy Moss is the rumored deal. I'm guessing the Vikings go WR and try to grab Edwards or someone with the pick. With as bad as their defense is... I would definitely go with a defensive player in the draft.
cabbageboy Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 Ok now they just need to do one more thing to be the ultimate guilty pleasure team of all time: Get Ricky Williams off the hippie commune.

Vigo Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 Ok now they just need to do one more thing to be the ultimate guilty pleasure team of all time: Get Ricky Williams off the hippie commune. I forgot about Ricky and the rumors about him coming back and playing for the Raiders. Man, if this happens the Raiders would be the most exciting team to watch both on and off the field. If they were ever going to do a reality tv show about an NFL team, the Raiders are the team of choice.
Sass Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 HBO should cover the pre-season. They did it for the Cowboys a couple years ago.
Guest Vitamin X Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 They also did it for the Ravens, and this past year NFL Network did it for the Jaguars.

SpikeFayeJettEdBebop Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 I was hoping Moss would go to Baltimore... However, my mind can only think of one thing now.... Moss, Ricky Williams, Raiders. If this happens, we may have the most entertaining off-field team EVER.
Guest El Satanico Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 There's nothing better than old school Raiders, so I hope they do get Ricky. Add in Janikowski, Collins and Gallery (looks wise at least) and I'm getting visions of 70s Raiders, which I'm enjoying. Now they need a Jack Tatumesque safety. I'm not even a Raiders fan and I may buy the black Moss jersey. Partly because I always liked their black jersey and partly because it's the league's current biggest "villian" on what was once the league's villian team.
converge241 Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 doesnt egomania Jerry Porter wear 84? oughtta be interesting if he does
Guest El Satanico Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 I'm sure Moss can convince($$) Porter to give it up, if he wants it that bad.
Only The Strong Survive Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 The problem at this point is Kerry's arm. He can throw the deep ball, but he can't get it there with any accuracy. If he chucks it down the field, he's basically asking for it to get picked off. However, as a Raiders fan, I'm glad we're getting a wide out like Moss. The more offensive options we have, the better.
Sass Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 The Raiders could have another deal in the works. Charles Woodson got franchised after acting like a lazy punk this season. I'm sure there are a couple teams in the market that might be interested in picking up a 6-time Pro Bowler CB that's not yet 30. Anyone looking for some defense?
MrRant Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 I don't think there will be many teams that want to give up draft picks plus pay I believe I heard a 10 million tab.
LaParkaMarka Posted February 24, 2005 Report Posted February 24, 2005 Especially with all of the corners on the market. I'm pretty sure Fred Smoot will be a lot cheaper than Woodson, and Smoot isn't much of a step down.
Guest Failed Mascot Posted February 25, 2005 Report Posted February 25, 2005 Just downloaded an interview of Chris Mortenson done on WEEI and he had a couple interesting things to say about this. First off apparently Daunte Culpepper wanted Moss off of the team. He had worn out his welcome with not only Culpepper but most of his teamates. Tice only wanted Moss back if he was willing to change for the better and new that was unlikely. It also appears Reggie Fowler(sp?) had no say in this because he may not even end up owning the Vikings. The financial aspects may be breaking down in the deal but even if they didn't at least 3 or 4 owners aren't willing to give the ok for him to own it due to his lying. If anybody wants the interview later on just say so and I'll link it in here.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Posted February 25, 2005 Report Posted February 25, 2005 Tice needs to change for the better.
Kahran Ramsus Posted February 25, 2005 Report Posted February 25, 2005 There are enough good WRs in free agency that the Vikes can sign one of them and then draft defensive help. Great move for Minnesota. As for Moss, someone needs to tell him that Minnesota is a lot closer to the Super Bowl than Oakland is. After all, it is only a short way from Michigan, and buying tickets is the only way he is ever going to get to the game.
Vern Gagne Posted February 25, 2005 Author Report Posted February 25, 2005 One reaction locally is the Vikes could of gotten a better deal. No they couldn't. Neither Baltimore and Atlanta even made contact with the Vikings. Baltimore said they won't move trade either Ed Reed, or Terrel Suggs for Moss. It just shows, what the league thinks of Moss.

Who in their right mind would trade ED REED for Randy Moss? Reed is clearly a defensive star in the NFL, a rarity these days. There's a lot of receivers who can come close, if not actually replicate, Randy's numbers. The choice is clear IMO.
Ripper Posted February 25, 2005 Report Posted February 25, 2005 I was just about to say that. Its ED FUCKING REED. I wouldn't trade him for Moss if Moss was a choirboy and all his teamates loved him.
NoCalMike Posted February 25, 2005 Report Posted February 25, 2005 ESPN news is reporting that another Moss trade is imminent. Santana Moss for Coles....straight up!!!
LaParkaMarka Posted February 25, 2005 Report Posted February 25, 2005 Wow, that's an interesting trade. The Jets can draft Heath Miller to replace Becht, maybe a WR in the second round, and they'll have a solid passing offense. And yeah, no one would trade Ed Reed and a pick for any one player, cept for maybe Peyton Manning. Besides, the Ravens and Falcons draft picks are far too low, in the 20s? They'd have to package someone very good to make the trade worth it.
Vern Gagne Posted February 25, 2005 Author Report Posted February 25, 2005 I was just about to say that. Its ED FUCKING REED. I wouldn't trade him for Moss if Moss was a choirboy and all his teamates loved him. Some rubes up here, seriously said the only trade they'd make was 2 defensive starters. Like Reed and Suggs, and 1st round pick, and on top of all that like a 3rd or 4th round pick.
