Watching my Summerslam 2000 DVD again the other night, I remembered how great the Tazz/Lawler feud was heading into the show. The match wasn't good, and I don't remember what they did between Summerslam and the rematch at Unforgiven, but the stuff leading into Summerslam was gold, with King sticking up for JR, Tazz blasting Lawler's rental car with JR in the passenger seat, busting Lawler open at the announce table, etc.

Any other examples of short but fun feuds?

Owen Hart vs Shawn Micheals post-Montreal should have gone on longer (at least a PPV match). This feud would've rocked if given more time - two great wrestlers and a legitimate backstory = great feud.

agreed. They blew that off way too quick.

Seconded.

Michaels/Owen made sense at WM. They could have easily done Austin/Tyson, maybe even Austin/HHH with Tyson as ref. AUstin could have won the title at Unforgiven. Who didn't want to see Owen with the strap in the early days of 1998?

Santana and Savage really clicked exceptionally well in the ring. Their program didn't last nearly long enough.

They went around the country from 1/86-6/86 which is a pretty long time......

Agreed on their matches, they were probably the best matches in the company (save for some bulldogs matches) at the time.

Roddy Piper/Ric Flair feuded for 3-4 months, but never wrestled one-on-one on nationally syndicated television. They've had tag matches and singles matches around the country, mainly house shows, and the occasional local broadcast (like MSG or NESN). Some entertaining promos though from each side on Superstars and Challenge.

Disagree. 'Mania was the place for Austin to win. It was an enormous success and the thought of Tyson wrestling is insanity. He was paid 3 million just to do a few shots, get publicity and take 0 bumps. I can only imagine what his price would have been for an actual match.

As for Owen, Meltzer reported awhile back that he was booked with Shawn in Euro title matches throughout February, but the back injury hurt him.

Shawn would have been a great post Mania opponent for Owen, but retirement did that in.

"Mamby-pamby Tito Santana...."

I LOVED that feud. I remember a cage match with Tito and Bruno Sammartino against Savage and someone else in a steel cage match....

Even though the feud lasted way long, the Hogan-Orndorff feud was the best....

It was Tito and Sammartino vs. Adonis and Savage at MSG.

It was a rematch of the tag match they had the prior month that Adonis and Savage won by count out.

I think it was more than just Adonis that teamed with Savage in that feud ... didn't that whole string of matches originate because Piper called Bruno a "wop" in a Pit at MSG?

True. But Owen and HBK could have been extended somewhat. Especially considering Austin won the title again at WM15.
