Guest Crazy Dan Report post Posted March 28, 2005 AL EAST: Yankees - this is almost as sure thing like taxes. AL Central: Twins- This is the worst division in baseball, no team really got any better, so I go with the team with the best pitcher and who has knows how to win in the regular season. AL West: Anaheim Wild Card: BoSox NL East: Atlanta - Why deny it, they always win the East and this year they improved their pitching staff. So expect a title and another first round choke job. NL Central: Cards - Improved staff with Mulder and a potent offense. However, Mulder's health could hinder his productivity. Also, I would be concerned with his collapse last season, which might have been a reason the A's traded him away. But if he stays healthy, he gives the Cards an ace on their staff. I thought that the lack of a true number one starter really cost them the Series. So Mulder is the X-Factor NL West - I am biased, so I predict the Giants win this. Despite what Bonds said, he will be back by June. To replace him is Pedro Feliz, who had solid numbers as utility player. Some say he should be starting at third base, because he is ready to be an everyday starter. So I look for him to put up respectable numbers during Bonds absence. Once Bonds gets back, he makes the Giants that much more tougher. The Giants improved defensively at short stop with Vizquel, who still can play defense better than many players much younger than him. Also, he still can hit. Methany is a great upgrade defensively at catcher and will help the Giants young staff only get better. Alou, is weak on defense, but until he shows otherwise, can still get hits and has the potential to be productive. And lets talk about the pitching staff. Jason Schmidt is now the most dominating pitcher in the NL, with the departure of Randy. Also, they improved their glaring weakness in signing Benitez. Last season the lack of a true closer cost them the West. Benetiz is a huge upgrade and I will rather take my chances with him over the two pitchers they had last season. Also, Rueter and Williams have shown that they will have better seasons and Lowrly did not lose a game during his call up to the big leagues, going 6-0 and throwing a real nasty breaking ball. So I did go over board on my Giants preview, but they will be right in the hunt, becuase since 1997, they have been in contention until the last week. The Padres are my second pick to win it if the Giants falter. LA lost too much and I am sorry, but Lowe was rewarded based on a great post season. Losing your best offensive player in Beltre will hurt. I am curious to know what DePodesta is doing becuase his moves don't make much sense. Wild Card: San Diego or SF I will stop there before I go ahead pick the Giants to win it all. I rather wait for the post season to make a prediction. Yes I am biased, once again, so of course I am taking my Giants, but I do feel they have good team without Bonds and great one with him. Also, Sabean will get another bat if Bonds does not play. Now watch them finish in last, which is why I do bet money.

I am curious to know what DePodesta is doing becuase his moves don't make much sense. Once I write my Dodgers preview on this board, it should look clearer. As for the Giants, they have no hope without Bonds. Bonds created 183 runs last season. You take away 183 runs from the Giants, and they fall from 2nd to 13th in runs scored. That bumps them from 91 wins to approximately 69 wins. The Giants can flat out not win this division without Bonds.
Guest Crazy Dan Report post Posted March 28, 2005 You are probably right, but since I am Giant's fan, I am not using logic, but my optimism that they will win without him. Also, he will play this year so he will be able to make a contribution that will keep the Giants in the hunt of things.

Let me save Al some trouble... the Dodgers have the best farm system in all of baseball. They have seven prospects in the Top 100 Prospect List, more than any other franchise, and Irvin "Joel" Guzman is going to be a stud. The Dodgers are gonna be pretty great in a few years.
