Comedian Mitch Hedberg

Recommended Posts

Today I saw a couple of ducks hanging around on campus, and I couldn't help but think of Mitch's "Ducks eat at Subway" bit

Now THAT's mourning.

I remember one time in high school my senior year I had to do a project with some guy, and I gave him my number as "222 2222" hes like really? Im like yeah, just hit two a bunch of times when you hear my voice you can stop."

Next day he comes and says "Hey that's not your real number!" I didn't say a word and just showed the paper to a bunch of people around me(none of which knew Mitch I'm sure) and they all just burst out loud laughing.

You helped me fool another one Mitch. RIP babay, go on to that big comedy standup stage in the sky...

Am I the only one that gets tired of people that don't like whoever the topic is about coming in and ripping the artist's personal work? Seriously, I don't know or care about Hunter S. Thompson, but it got annoying when every other post was Mike going "He's a shitty writer".

I saw a couple of posts dissing Mitch in the first page of the thread, hopefully that shit stops since it's lame, annoying and not really funny. I remember someone posted a page with all his famous lines on it. If someone could track that down and post it that would be hilarious.

That is kinda funny isn't it, 'cause I probably would not have thought of it otherwise (if he were still alive)

This really sucks. Hedberg was one of my three favourite comedians, behind Carlin and Leary.

This is my all-time favourite Hedberg quote:

An escalator can never break: it can only become stairs. You would never see an "Escalator Temporarily Out Of Order" sign, just "Escalator Temporarily Stairs. Sorry for the convenience."

I heard that a possible cause of his death could have been a heart defect

Yeah, but that wasn't helped by his extreme drug use. Mitch was getting very bad these last few months so if the heart defect didn't kill, the drugs would have.

Christ, it sucks hearing about someone flushing their life down the toilet. And it sucks even more to read the final reviews of his comedy tour to see him in a freefall.

Such a waste. The guy was hilarious.

I feel weird that I've never heard of him. Is he pretty famous and I'm just living under a rock, or is he one of those "cool underground" types in which case I'm just not with it? What movies/shows was he in?

He was more of a cult figure, but he was once dubbed the next Seinfeld by Time Magazine, so he definitely sat on the fine line between cult status and mainstream popularity.

He was on an episode of That 70s Show. He played the guy that ran the Hub on the one where the kid from Angels in the Outfield has the hots for Eric.

Reading the reviews of his latest shows pisses me off. Someone should have gotten that guy help. His agent and friends obviously knew something was wrong. Detox is relatively cheap. Missed dates at comedy clubs were probably less so.

Speaking of which, who's been to a show when someone was too fucked up to perform? Endfest this year, the lead singer of Echo and the Bunnymen was slurring VERY badly onstage, and interrupting songs to tell us we weren't good enough to hear him, and there needed to be more 'bollocks' on the mic, despite him being way amped up. The funny thing? He could sing clearly and pretty well, and then couldn't talk. If you're so bad you can't even keep your addiction in check before a show, your friends should be taking care of you.

Ben Burnly, lead singer of Breaking Benjamin, got beyond hammered on stage the last time I went to see them. By the final two songs he was slurring and forgot parts of the song. Course his groupies loved every minute of it cause he stumbled out to the bus and grabbed a giggling pair of them along the way.

If anyone else is headed for a crash, it's him.

Let's see, the topic says COMEDIAN Mitch Hedberg.

A few years ago, I had a friend who was a professional stand up comedian.

I'm sure if he died, and I posted a thread called "Comedian John Smith died", everyone would know who I was talking about because I used the word "comedian".

The point is, instead of making a dumbass post here, you could take said information(name, occupation), and go to google. Exactly what is the point of posting in a thread about someone's death, if you have no idea who that person is?

I really don't know what to say though. Completely unexpected, and I'm kicking myself in the ass for never going out to see him. He's given me so many laughs, and will always be one of my favorite comedians. I can't count the number of people I've burned one of his CD's for.

Reading all of these reviews is hard, because I had no idea it was this bad. I thought he was married or engaged, and getting shit back together. Whether or not it was drug related, you have to assume that in the long run, the drugs did him in, and made his heart defect a lot worse. But fuck it, that doesn't matter. He's gone, and it sucks.

"My manager told me, "Mitch, don't use alcohol as a crutch." A crutch is something that helps you walk, alcohol is like the step I didn't see."

"A severed foot makes a good stocking stuffer"

"Don't you hate it when songs get used for the wrong things? We, are the world, we are the children.... remember that song baby? That night I fucked you in the pet cemetary?"

"Pringles must be the most laid back company in the world. I think they were supposed to make tennis balls, but then a truck of potatoes showed up and the said FUCK IT, CUT EM UP!"

We listened to Mitch all day at work on Saturday in memoriam. RIP
