Taker666 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2005 Gott say, SmackDown was fantastic tonight. Unlike Raw, SD! actually started planning for the future with the WWE title tournment, the annoucment of Eddie/Angle and Carlito's Cabana, and the continuation of the Eddie/Rey Storyline. Raw just seemed so bland to me this week. they didn't really tease anything new at all, it was just the same old stuff only with Batista as Champion. while SD! was more energetic and much better storylines going right now. Opening segment was great. I don't see how people always knock on SD! about not having star power, all those guys in the ring tonight along with Cena and RVD(when he comes back) make for an excellent Heavyweight Division IMO, even better than Raws. LOL at JBL's "were not handing out green card" comment and Angle's "you must be this tall to go for the title" to Rey. Great segment. London Vs Kidman was a great match IMO, It felt like a PPV match with all the blood and all. I'am surprised they didn't have the balls to Black&White the screen. the post-beatdown was great to. is the WWE actually giving the Cruiser Division a feud now? the Luther segment was somewhat funny. luther reigns have been growing on my latly. the big show/luther match wasn't much though I really enjoyed the John Cena segment. I liked how Cena ripped on the "wrestling traditionlist" by not giving a damn what they think of him and changing the design of the WWE title rather they like it or not. I wasn't offended nor upset at what he did to the US title so I won't be upset with what he does to the WWE title. face it, the man is mega-over. and making a customize WWE title is a good idea IMO, the fans ate it up with the US title so they're definlly going to jump on this one to. its called good marketing. the only downside to the show was the bikini contest. now believe me, I enjoy looking at hot woman in bikinis. but the WWE actually found a way to make it boring. kudos to them. the new Divas are just to damn bland and generic to even give a damn what they're wearing. they're so useless that despite being on the roster for what? 3-4 months now. they have to say what they're names were. and I still didn't given a damn. Torrie Won. didn't see that coming. as one of my favorite guys on SD!, I'am looking foward to Carlito's Cabana next week. if theres anyone who deserves a talk show. its him. JBL Vs Rey was an entertaining match IMO, I thought it was funny when Eddie Throught Rey off during the three count to beat up JBL. that was interesting. now I'am wondering where they'll go from here. overall, very very entertaining SmackDown!, so much to look forward to. the continuation of the tournment, the Eddie/Rey storyline, Carlito's Cabana, Angle Vs Guerrero. Use Your Illusion 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2005 I love the way Torrie always sells winning these contests like she just won the womans title. So important. The women's title is important? SD! was pretty 'meh' tonight. I'd of been more positive had they just given Rey the fucking win. I know they want JBL to be able to say 'I haven't been beaten, therefore I deserve the title shot', but finishes like that are unacceptable.

Well, in their defense, JBL wasn't kicking out, so it definitely looked like Rey would have gotten the pin had Eddie not interfered, so Rey was protected in that regard. Masked Man of Mystery 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2005 Cena had better not get a custom belt. He should be getting serious now and if he's really the wrestling fan they play him up to be he'd understand that you respect titles and don't make ones that spin just for kicks. As far as I'm concerned, the only time a cutsom belt should ever be used is in a case like the FTW belt where its part of the story and actually an independent title. ChrisMWaters 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2005 Well, if you think about it...Cena making his own look for the WWE Title fits his character, like the customizations in the past have. Let's look at the past customizations: -Warrior's colored straps for IC and WWF Titles: I guess Warrior felt black clashed with his outfits, so he wanted something brighter. -Michaels with Baby Blue and White IC title straps: ...OK, these I never got. -Goldust with gold IC title strap: Well, he LOVED GOOOOOLD...so it worked for him. And this is before he started wearing black and gold outfits, IIRC. -nWo Spraypainting the WCW Title belt: nWo were laying claim to the company of WCW, showing WCW little to no respect and showing no respect for the tradition. The spraypainting of the belt was a further sign of that. -Austin's Smoking Skull belt: Austin wanted to rebel against McMahon. The WWF title belt that everyone else used, to Austin, represented support for McMahon. Hence, he wanted a belt that more represented him. -Cena's US and soon WWE Titles: John Cena is a street style person, and wants his own personal "bling" to his looks. The US and WWE title belts, while good, aren't as stylish, in his mind, as what he'd make of them. Hence, the new looks. So, that's why Cena changing the WWE Title looks makes sense. ...hmm, who was the person here that works for FiguresToyCompany.com? Maybe WWE has already sent a prelim look for Cena's new WWE title to them for a replica to be made...
Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2005 The fans liked the spinner; so I don't see why it's such a bad idea other than most of you not liking it. Bradshaw had a good looking suit last night. Rey and Bradshaw put on a good match. I liked what Cena did going into the crowd and making the title "ours". Sorta like The Rock, the People's champ. Can't wait till next week for Carlito's Cabana. Not a bad name. Crusierweight match nice. Overall good show again. RAW gives us the same shit everyweek. Good to have Smackdown.
genius33 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2005 was anyone else impressed with JBL's ringwork last night? he helped put together a match with good flow and logical spots, not to mention his heelwork last night was second to none. i was very impressed.
Guest Shadow Report post Posted April 8, 2005 JBL has really not been given proper credit for how greatly he's improved ringwise. People here refuse to look past the fact he was a jobber/tag teamer for 8 years before last spring and try to pretend it's justin hawk bradshaw main eventing and not JBL. Downhome 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2005 I already miss Bradshaw as champ, but I must admit that Cena is starting to grow on me. I will say this though...I think that John Cena, as he is right now, would work out much better as being the type of guy who is chasing the title, trying to fight against all odds. I don't see him as a guy who will be as interesting with the title. John Cena trying to take down JBL was interesting for the short while it lasted, and they should have stretched it out a bit longer. Regardless though, I still think things could be more interesting with Bradshaw as the heel champ with Cena as the guy trying his best to take it. Many people, in my opinion, just work better when they are chasing the title. Sting is another guy who comes to mind like that.
Brett Favre 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2005 Another guy like that was The Rock. I could see this happening a lot throughout Cena's career.
Downhome 0 Report post Posted April 8, 2005 I could really grow to love Cena, especially if he worked with hit moveset a bit and really fixed up the FU so that it looks more damaging. As it is now, it's just a simple fall with almost no force behind it most of the time. I just can't believe that move would keep anyone down at all. I love Cena going into the crowd, I loved how he messed with JBL at that "debate", and his mic skills seem to get better every show. Still, like you said, I think he'd work much better as someone who is trying to reach the title, not someone who holds it a lot, and it'll be with him for most of his career. With a gimmick change or something like that, I could see that changing. Cena could be a very over heel, but not as this character.

Cena did do the FU differently at WM, almost like a DVD, just not quite. Still, that's way better than how he does it most of the time. I think JBL should've kicked out of the first FU but a second one should've been it. After all, JBL did kick out of Show's Chokeslam, Eddie's Frog Splash, etc. Also, I haven't seen Cena do the throwback in quite a while. Has he dropped it? That's a cool looking move IMO. I also like how Cena goes to the crowd. People love that stuff, and it helps him stay over.
