JJMc 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2005 I've run Spybot and Ad-Aware numerous times and there's this thing called HuntBar that will not fucking go away. When Spybot or Ad-Aware finds it and I try to delete it, it tells me that it is still in use. I did the same thing in safe mode with the same result. I tried deleting it manually through the registry, but I get an "error opening key" message. Problem #2. There are now about 5 other pieces of spyware that behave in much the same way as these do. One of them is the world famous 'N Case.' The problem with these is that they don't even show up in the registry when Spybot etc. says they are. Is there anything that can be done short of formatting the whole f'n thing?
tominator89 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2005 Honestly, sometimes the spyware programming is such that it's like a virus and integrates itself into your system to the point were it is best to simply reformat and start over. Plus, once you reformat, be sure to install anti-spyware software immediately to avoid contracting as spyware instead of later when you have to disinfect everything. Guest MentallyNormal Report post Posted April 11, 2005 If you run Winxp turn off system restore, then boot into safe mode and then scan. Sometimes your spyware is stuck in the system restore folder. But remember when you turn off system restore it's deleting all previous restore points. System Restore deactivate located in Control Panel/Performance and Maintence/System/System Restore I would suggest run a virus scanner, spyware scanner etc after turning off system restore in safe mode. After everything is clean then you can turn back on system restore if you use it. Here some google on Huntbar/Ncase Spybot Manual Huntbar removal Huntbar Huntbar Ncase Try removing these with the spyware programs like spybot you mention and adware, before manually trying it. Also if you haven't done so,always update your spyware programs.

Carnival 0 Report post Posted April 17, 2005 Personally i've found that certain spyware programs will catch things that other programs overlook. I've got Spyware Doctor, Adaware, Spybot and A2. And i've never had spyware bad enough i've had to reformat. One time i had to change something back in my registy, cuz i think a virus of some kind changed all my desktop icons to DOS prompts. Other than that if you've got a couple different spyware/adaware programs you can keep you shit pretty clean.

AboveAverage484 0 Report post Posted May 1, 2005 How do you get your Hijack This report. Download a program called HiJack This (you can get it from download.com), run a scan on your computer, save a log, and then post it to the site. I got rid of 100% of my adware, spyware, and viruses with their help.
Vyce 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2005 If you're willing to pay using Spy Sweeper is a beautiful thing. Definitely worth the money. It's actually not very expensive (I think I got my copy for around 20 bucks.....of course, if you know the right channels, you could get it for free.....), and works exceptionally well. I had to, unfortunately, reformat my computer earlier this year because my system had been infested with a particularly nasty virus that NOTHING could get rid of. After the formating, I installed Sweeper, and it's worked fantastic. I've only had a couple spyware problems, but it caught and deleted them every time. Another good program to get is Avast antivirus. You can download it for free off download.com. That's a pretty decent program for free (you can even schedule boot scans, which work great, as they usually catch and eliminate viruses or spyware that you normally wouldn't be able to rid yourself of as those same spyware programs would start running when Windows loaded), and unlike Adaware or Spybot, it doesn't download its own spyware onto your computer. Plus the virus database updates itself virtually every day.
