Snitching 101: H.S. to reward informants

$100 for information on guns, $25-50 on drug possessionThe Associated Press

ROME, Ga. - A high school is looking for a few good snitches.

Using revenue from its candy and soda sales, Model High School plans to pay up to $100 for information about thefts and drug or gun possession on campus.

“It’s not that we feel there are any problems here,” said Principal Glenn White. “It’s a proactive move for getting information that will help deter any sort of illegal activity.”

Under the new policy, a student would receive $10 for information about a theft on campus, $25 or $50 for information about drug possession, and $100 for information about gun possession or other serious felonies.

Informants will not receive the reward if they are involved in the crime, White said.

No rewards nearby

At nearby Rome High School, there is no similar program because students there have a rapport with officials and are comfortable providing information, said Superintendent Gayland Cooper.

“We feel the reward is the kids knowing they have a safe school,” Cooper said.

The idea for the program came from Kell High School in Marietta, an Atlanta suburb. There, student tips earlier this year led to the arrest of a classmate who had brought a handgun to school.

No Model High students have received the reward yet, but some questioned the logic behind it. Jaime Parris, a senior, said that most students already would tell faculty about anything that threatened student safety.

“But if it’s not going to hurt other people, I don’t think many people are going to tell on their friends,” she said.

I would however drop a bag in a couple of kids lockers if I was short on cash. I mean really, 10$ bag of weed will get me 50 bucks? Hells yeah!! Plus if you do it to the pussiest kids you know, you won't have to worry about the get back atcha factor of it all.

This is nothing new. My school district had the same type of thing for the whole district. They called it Secret Witness and had the phone number to call posted everywhere. If i remember correctly it was just a $50 reward for any type of crime reported.

Well, the school could spend this money in worse ways.

And if you don't have a lock on your school locker then you deserve to be set up by The Man...

Pretty sure school officials can just bust open any locker they want. It is still school property, the kids are just "renting" the space.

Bah. A baggie would fit in those little slots. I think they might catch on once I quit my part time job and start wiping my nose with 100's. There would be only hot females in the school by the time i was done. Hot females and ME.

Hot females are attracted to gay men

Good plan

High school criminals to reward squealers with two in the head

I was actually thinking that same thing...but I imagine they'd keep it anonymous-like, like how the police do their reward deals...of course, a lot of principals are pretty damn dumb and may drop that ball, but who knows?

They should announce the squealers over the announcements after the lunch menu. It'll be like a sporting event for nerds.

In all seriousness, this probably won't work. The names would start leaking or they'd just pull a Ripper and set people up.

This dude on the local talk station was bitching about it, but for all the right reasons. Teaching them with financial reward won't teach them shit about avoiding drugs or guns or whatever. They'd be better off teaching drug information and gun safety classes.

My one friend in high school stole this kid's Florida State U. jacket from his locker. Had I been given a C-Note from the school I would have ratted him out.

This genius asked the kid one day if he would sell him the jacket and he was turned down. The next day he stole it. How he got away with this is beyond me...

In all my years, I never saw anyone block the slots of a locker, except the girls who would put up pictures of boy bands. I guess it was a different time, even though I only graduated two years ago.

Depends on how the drug information is taught. Having known more and more about them, that would only further encourage me to use marijuana knowing legal things such as alcohol and tobacco are worse for you (not like it's stopped me from using those, but of the 3, I know what I'd prefer..)

The whole monetary reward system is a bad idea. Schools are the place where the government is supposed to educate children on how to be a functional citizen. It's the LAST place we should offer money for something the kids should be doing anyway for ethical reasons.

Hell yeah, I would set someone up for it. Put a Dub sac (20) in someones locker and im getting 50-100 dollars and buy more weed for myself and to frame more people. Seriously, this shit is stupid thou, it'll probably cause more violence than anything, people will snitch on people just to get back at them for some stupid High School reason.
