Howard Stern's a tool

You guys, Mancow's Morning Madhouse is like a million times better than Stern, and Mancow will be going national on free radio by the end of the summer. Already, in every city he shares with Stern, Mancow's more popular, and the FCC is on him way worse.

Mancow used to be based here in San Francisco.

Dead air is better than Mancow, he is a waste of a perfectly good radio frequency.

HOO HOO HOO. I INVENTED THIS THREAD, ROBIN.

Yeah, Jackie leaving was what made me realize that Stern himself isn't entertaining- it's the people he has surrounded himself with- Jackie, Fred, Artie- that are entertaining.

Opie and Anthony > Howard Stern

Much funnier and smarter show.

Plus they occasionally have Jim Norton.

Which makes them better than anything Stern could ever do.

This perhaps the best reason stated in the entire thread.

Jim Norton = Ratings.

And Im glad at the same time I signed up For XM, they put O&A on for free instead of the premium channel they were on.

You just don't like him because he pops up on Fox & Friends and stuff.

How long ago was he in SF? I remember him being on, I think, Q101 in Chicago back in 1994.

Arguing who has the best radio show between Rush, Stern, and Mancow is like trying to decide which of the 3 Stooges was the smartest.

You know what sucks about drive time radio? The fact that just because these three idiots can make millions at it, every radio station feels like they need to counter-program with idiotic talk shows of their own. Thus, instead of getting to listen to new music on my way to work, I have to listen to an idiot DJ ramble on about nothing in a vain attempt to be entertaining.

Fortunately, Limbaugh's on at a time when there's no chance I'll have a radio turned on.

Hell, that's why I don't like him.

Never once heard his radio show, but he's so goddamn awful and jive-ass on F&F, that I'd never tune into his broadcast if that's what I'd have to listen to for 3+ hours every morning.

I've seen him on Hannity and that-other-guy a few times and I was entertained. So I'd give him a chance if his show came to Pittsburgh. Oh, and appearing on FAUX & Friends (lol 6 a.m.) does take away some points, but you can't blame a brotha for making a living...

Mancow lost the KC market a few years ago, but when I listened to him he was basically a right-wing Howard Stern. He could be entertaining when talking about pop culture, but the second he starts on about politics he turns into Sean Hannity.

I was a Stern fan from about 90-92 (Channel 9 Show) and then again from 96-2001. I've listened less and less the last 4 years. I still kind of like him, but he's nowhere near as good he was in the late 90s. My problem with him is that he lets his ego get in the way of being funny. The show actually did bits and sketches that were damn funny, but now he doesn't do that AT ALL anymore. The show has become so serious the last couple of years and Howard's outright refusal to do scripted bits anymore has hurt the quality. I think he wanted to prove that he could do a show where he talked for 5 hours and didn't have to rely on written material to get by.

No. I saw him on Fox & Friends and thought, "people are still paying attention to that stupid fuck?"

My dislike of Mancow is based purely on the talents he displayed here locally.

Here's a question for Stern fans. On the E! show when Jackie was part of the team, he was always seen writing stuff. Was he handing jokes or something Howard?...

yes Jackie was writing jokes, but Howard would disregard most of them. Jackie, Howard and Fred used to write out bits that were performed on air, but in the last 10 years or so they have almost completely stopped doing that. Artie and Benji are "writers on the fly" during the show, if they think of a line, they send it to Howard and it's up to Howard if he uses it.

Strummer, I think the problem is all these bits people want him to do, he CAN'T do anymore. He isn't allowed to do bits he did 2 years ago, much less 5 years ago and definitely not 10 years ago. The FCC Sanctions just won't allow them to do any kind of bit that is even the least bit racy. They have Sal the Stockbroker and another guy named Richard Christy working for them now and they are actually doing some pretty funny stuff, I think the show is the best it's been since their "prime". Those 2 guys have added A LOT to the show, as well as Artie.

he's front page news in NY a few times a week

I don't really have an opinion about Howard either way (I haven't listened to him in years, though I did like him back in the day), but he really isn't front page news around here at all, let alone "a few times a week". I'll occasionally come across some stories (I don't think any of which are big enough to be "front page") about him, such as the Sirius deal, or his Bush-bashing, but he doesn't get the kind of press coverage that he got in the 90s.

I actually believe that when Jackie left was when the show began it's decline downhill. I think Jackie brought a good dynamic to the show, and when he left was when things began to snowball.

Bullshit. Back before they were kicked off the airwaves for Sex for Sam, Opie & Anthony used to have a shitload of restrictions placed upon them as to what they could or could not say (some of them put in place by Stern) on the air (or else the dreaded Van Halen would begin playing!). They found amusing and interesting ways around those limitations because they were dedicated to their work and put an effort into finding something creative to overcome those limits.

Stern's more content to just be lazy and go on endless tirades about how Bush / Republicans are keeping him down (ignoring, of course, how few Democrats have come out to support him in his 'cause').

There is 10x more of an eye on what Stern is doing than what fucking Opie and Anthony were doing. Unless they did something completely outragous, nobody really gave a shit.

Which is different from Stern how?

It's pretty obvious you have some deep-rooted hatred for Howard, I don't understand why you keep coming back to the thread.

I don't have a "crush" on Howard. I am not going out of my way to talk about how great he is. You on the other hand, continue to come back in the thread to throw little jabs at him. Quite an odd obsession.

But then again, if that's your idea of humor, I can see why you wouldn't like Howard's show.

I don't have a "crush" on Howard.

Didn't say it was sexual. But you definitely have a crush on the man.

I am not going out of my way to talk about how great he is.

Was it you who commented how he's front page in NY all of the time or some such nonsense?

You on the other hand, continue to come back in the thread to throw little jabs at him. Quite an odd obsession.

Sarcastic comments about him really take little effort.

But then again, if that's your idea of humor, I can see why you wouldn't like Howard's show.

Nah. It's that whole "having gone through puberty" thing that kills his schtick for me.

So would you say you have a crush on George Bush?

Was it you who commented how he's front page in NY all of the time or some such nonsense?

Yes, because we were talking about his relevance.

Sarcastic comments about him really take little effort.

Well you sure have put a whole lot of effort into bashing a guy who, in your opinion, is not relevant at all and basically trash.

Nah. It's that whole "having gone through puberty" thing that kills his schtick for me.

No. But you wouldn't say you have a crush on Stern, either.

I have said Bush spends money like a drunken debutante more than once.

Yes, because we were talking about his relevance.

If you have to defend his "relevance" (and have to make shit up in the process), then the man ISN'T relevant...

Nah, not that much effort, actually.

So what has your comment accomplished then? Nothing

Nobody made shit up. I said "all the time", which is a figure of speech. I don't know the exact number of times he's on the cover of NY papers, but he's on quite a bit. It isn't anymore of making shit up than you saying he isn't relevant or saying nobody listens to him.

Nah, not that much effort, actually.

Well then I'd love to see how much you bash someone who actually IS relevant.

...Guessing there's a point there somewhere...

The point - your humor level is that of an 80-year old man.

Wasn't aware I ever stated that my comments WOULD change Presidential policy. I know it's a shame that a poster on a wrestling board lacks the power to alter the course of the federal gov't...

Nobody made shit up.

Well, the whole "Front page news" thing was made up.

I said "all the time", which is a figure of speech.

Which implies it happens at least FREQUENTLY.

It doesn't happen frequently.

I don't know the exact number of times he's on the cover of NY papers, but he's on quite a bit.

I've heard otherwise.

It isn't anymore of making shit up than you saying he isn't relevant or saying nobody listens to him.

I didn't say nobody listened to him. Just that he's utterly irrelevant in the world.

Nah, not that much effort, actually.

Well then I'd love to see how much you bash someone who actually IS relevant.

I'm sure you would.

Wasn't trying to be funny.

And I think you're mistaking age for IQ level.

I was actually referring to you saying I had a crush on Howard, and then me saying you had a crush on Bush. The whole thing accomplished nothing.

Oh, it does happen frequently.

Which would classify as made up shit. He may not be AS RELEVANT as others, but he is defintely relevant.

And I think you're mistaking age for IQ level.

So your IQ is 80?

Wow, I assumed you had a point.

You managed to prove me wrong there.

Kudos.

Is the sky blue in the fantasy world you live in?

You're right. I was wrong.

For people who have actually SEEN a naked woman, he's pretty damned irrelevant. If you haven't, I'm sure he's just the coolest dude in the world or something.

And I think you're mistaking age for IQ level.

So your IQ is 80?

For the average Stern fan, an IQ of 80 is as unachievable as an IQ of 160.
