What do you feel is TNA's money match?

Recommended Posts

Guest LooneyTune

Somehow get Hulk Hogan and Steve Austin under a one-time-only contract. Other than that... there's nothing left in the states for marks to really care about. If TNA were to sign great wrestlers from ROH or other various indy promotions, that would interest the smark fanbase, but not the marks. Hogan and Austin can lure in the marks, while the rest of a certain PPV can be for the smarks.

Their biggest money draw they currently have under contract would be...Styles vs Jarrett.

If they were to get Sting to come back for one match...Sting vs Jarrett.

Sting vs. Jeff Jarrett happend a few times already in 1-on-1 matches... how about Sting vs. Abyss or Sting vs. Styles?

Sting vs Raven would be my personal fav fued.

Sting going over Jarrett for the title would draw. I know the match has happened before. but wasn't that like over a year ago? And a tag match?

I don't know the details.

Well assuming they can't bring in others from the outside and do like Austin vs. Goldberg or something, there really isn't much of a "money match" they have.

Their "money match" is the X division and to a lesser extent the tag division. It's what makes them different then WWE, what made them stand out even 3 years ago and what got them high praise for a couple of their last PPVs. You can't see unique high flying innovative junior action in WWE nor can you often see a good old school tag match. So I think just focusing your cards on the likes of Styles, Petey, Sabin, Shocker, Daniels, AMW, Kash/Hoyt, etc. is their best bet.

As for a world title match? I agree Jarrett vs. Styles is the best they can do unless they build up Raven again. Maybe Monty Brown with the hope of winning the title could draw too...

TNA once again HAD a money match set and they pissed it down their leg. Brown vs Jarrett was on fire and it just got FLUSHED for that stupid Nash vs Jarrett match and then that equally dumb tag match.

Brown vs Jarrett should have happened at the PPV after JJ barely escaped by using everything but the kitchen sink to beat Brown.

Now? There is no one. Even Styles vs JJ won't work since it seems like they are about to pull a "AJ is TNA's chosen one" which would mean a pointless Styles heel turn with a Jarrett FACE turn.

Raven vs Jarrett was pissed down their leg.

Brown vs Jarrett was pissed.

So what is left? Build someone up and then drop the ball yet again? It's almost as annoying as the WWE.

I think Raven v. Styles would be a money feud for them..

but in all honesty.. from a Mark Standpoint.. probably something along the lines of a heel Abyss with the title v. a face Jeff Hardy would be the biggest money match they could hope for.

I hate to say it but Jeff Hardy is probably the most over in TNA in the mark community...

TNA had the money match way back when with Raven v. Jarrett. All that it would have taken to really have drawn a substantial buyrate for a rematch with them was two more months of good buildup after their initial match and dual turns for Jarrett-Raven.

I felt like they had another one much like this with Brown v. Jarrett too, and this still might be salvagable if they have a long term plan of Brown turning back face on Jarrett and getting a title return shot either May ppv or maybe better would be June ppv to celebrate the Anniversary and start on a better leaf going into another TNA calendar year. The past two matches between them has been the best thing the world title picture had since Raven-Jarrett, period.

But its all in TNA's court - the seeds have subtly been planted for Brown to turn back face, almost that he just turned heel to get another shot in the first place. But the ball could be easily dropped here, as past has indicated. When/if Brown gets the belt, then they HAVE to move Jarrett away from any further title reigns, at least for a few years (that is if TNA can stay alive til then) - he's hurting anyone and anything in the product from being "money" material.

Styles v. Jarrett should have been a money match, but its been done to death back and forth for two plus years now, and I could care less about another match between the two. I actually hope Abyss goes over at the ppv, and we see Abyss get a solid rub from Jarrett even if he doesnt win the title.

Anything else that could be "money" would be Sting coming in for a title run, but against Jarrett to get that title is NOT a money match. Its been done to death before not just in the WCW days, but in TNA and their bouts never got that much peaked interest.

I dont think guys like Styles, Raven, Abyss, Hardy, etc have been used properly enough to be considered "draws" at this point. I'm pretty sure that Styles should stick strictly in the X division only and really continue to build that division as his flagship where he can be a draw for the division itself in due time.

Down the road, I think a good idea would be to bring in Matt Hardy and have him and Jeff team up again to establish the tag division as stronger, and have an AMW heel turn. That would help add some drawing power to the tag division as well.

Hardyz vs. AMW

Or, given the right work, Chris Daniels vs. Jeff Jarrett. When they last did something way back when, there was a lot of buzz about it. Then Daniels got thrown to the side by Jarrett...but Daniels/Jarrett would be something fresh. Styles/Jarrett has been done before in a high profile situation. Daniels/Jarrett hasn't.

TNA really doesn't have a money match without bringing someone else in. Sting, Hogan, Goldberg, Rocky, Lesnar. And the only one they even have a slight chance of bringing in is Sting.

They only have a chance of getting Sting due to Jerry Jarrett giving Sting his start in wrestling. Sting just worked in January against Billy Gunn in Korea for Mid-Atlantic Championship wrestling. If he is still in the shape he was last year in TNA then a Sting vs Raven(if Raven gets a stronger push) would be awesome.

But I agree with everyone they've blown their chances and would pretty much have to bring someone in to help out. Or suddenly start booking their talented roster smartly.

A Jarrett Vs Raven rematch is probably the best bet i think...

Just by announcing it i think it would create at least a little interest, due to what happened last time and Raven mentioning his destiny a number of times since it happened... and if they built it well it could happen... They have 2 years of history to mention and they could use video packages of the original feud and raven's subsequent demands and all that... And if it happened and Raven went over then i think it would have a decent chance of working

good god I hope you are joking  I'd rather watch Chase Stevens v. Andy Douglas B-) Then again that match would be great anyway.

I'd agree with The Hardyz vs. AMW. Hell, New Age Outlaws vs. either of those teams would have more buzz than a Jarrett main event.

I love the X-Division but there isn't a single dream match last. Ditto the World title.

Hardyz vs. any team out of NAO, AMW or The Outsiders.

Too bad Triple X is no more, because that would have been the best money tag match they could do, IMO. Matt and Daniels to carry the workload, Skipper to keep up a good pace, and Jeff to hit all his highspots would have been awesome.

Matt Hardy vs. Jeff Jarrett for the NWA Title IMO is a money match.

They can hopefully salvage the shitty Brown turn by having him constantly remind JJ "you owe me one". JJ can blow it off, blow it off, until finally Brown confronts him and says no more waiting, it's time for JJ to pay up. JJ will get scared and try to pussy out, then bring in Rhino as his muscle to take out Brown (my only fear is that if they brought Rhino in, he'd get babyface cheers). Have Brown then fight through Rhino, Gunn, and maybe Abyss again before finally getting his hands on JJ and getting the big win. A little bit o' fantasy booking on my part, but it could work.

I agree with the Triple X comment... any chance of a "One Night Only" return?

They could always bring back Lo-Ki to team with Daniels or Skipper for XXX. I think at this point Daniels is best fit to the X division first and foremost though, he is undervalued in a tag setting.

I think Brown v. Styles could draw possibly down the road, that might be a good world title match to aim for if/when TNA ever tries their first real WrestleMania like supercard, which I think is being rumored for Sept or so.

I dont think Matt Hardy can be brought in and immediately be penciled for a title run, much less a shot. It didnt work with Jeff really, why should it with Matt? Other than us smart fans, is the general public really going to rally against the "other" Hardy being the savior to beating Jarrett for that belt?

Hardy (both of them in fact) would be better fit for X division, IMO and also as a regular tag team. I think in due time both Jeff and Matt can prosper as singles with them tagging on the side, but if they bring in Matt right away in July, they got to team him and Jeff back up for a while before anything happens. Having a tag division with them against, like Zach said, the NAO, AMW (as heels), or the Outsiders would add some greatness to the tag division, especially if teams like the Naturals, Team Canada, Konnan/Truth and others are also in the mix.

I still think the best bet would be to have Brown beat Jarrett ASAP and then immediately after such (well maybe after a rematch with Jarrett that Brown beats him once again), have Rhino run in and lay Brown out. Then from there, you can build up Styles, Raven, and others more for runs against Brown. I think long term the best idea would be to build to Raven/Brown as a big match late year in which Raven would finally get the belt.

Another thing to consider is that TNA almost NEEDS to do this with Brown, or else its a virtual lock he is going to go to WWE come June, when his contract expires.

Weird how TNA now actually has a better tag-team roster than WWE, which was never true before. Between all the teams they've got (AMW, Team Canada, Naturals, 3 Live Kru, Kash/Hoyt) and the ones they could easily put back together in the near future (NAO, Outsiders, Hardys, XXX) that is truly one hell of a list of talent. Too bad they never do anything worth a damn with any of them, though.

I don't think ya'll should be so hard on Siaki. I see a lot of potential there. He has a good look. Yeah, he has a crappy accent but he's passable in the ring. That's why he'd be sympathetic. He'd usually take people apart, not like a Spike Dudley. However, in the case of running into Abyss, it'd be like how Hogan was against Zeus.

I still think it could work...and no, I'm not fucking joking. It'd be better than Jarrett Vs. Page with a Monty Brown run-in on PPV. Siaki takes a beating from Abyss until it's time for the comeback.

Unfortunately I think Siaki might always have that stigma of being a Rock wannabee perhaps, although I agree with you that he has talent. Not sure if he's main event material though, but he's horribly underused. I actually think he should be brought back to the X division more, as he could have a decent role there. He's gotten tons better in the ring than he was a few years ago.

He's looked at like a Rock wannabe because of the way he was portrayed in TNA. Still, it's better than being an Elvis impersonator.

I'd still say TNA's best hope for a money match is Jarrett/Brown. Though Jarrett made a name somewhere else, he's still looked at as a TNA wrestler and Brown is a homegrown talent. The storyline is in place for the turn, as long as they make it seem like Brown had this plan the whole time, and not that he just woke up and decided to turn on Jarrett. He has to be seen as playing Jarrett, who's gotten the better of all his other opponents mentally, for it work. But I think that a Jarrett/Brown PPV main event with the changing of the guard build of say Austin/Michaels at WM14 would do big business for TNA - relatively speaking of course.

Theyve ruined Raven vs Jarrett and Brown vs Jarrett. The only 2 which have been given a go are Abyss vs Jarrett and Chris Daniels vs Jarrett. NAO/Hardyz vs AMW will draw interest. Matt Hardy vs Jarrett would also too. O how the mighty have fallen, in reference to Ron Killings.

I think the only match that will draw at the moment is Daniels vs Jarrett.
