Honestly, in all truth, the guy strikes out EVERY SINGLE AB. Hes either walked or K'd in 41 of his 69 ABs.

 

 

That means there are 28 at-bats where he didn't walk or strike out.

Honestly, I don't see rebuilding in the Yankees' future for as long as Steinbrenner owns the team. I don't think he can even stomach the thought of rebuilding. They were only able to get where they were in the mid-90s because he was suspended at the start of the decade.

It's really easier said than done to start rebuilding for the future. Especially with Yankees, who have almost no prospects at high minor league level. Not has sure as reguards to low level prospects, even if they do those players will take 3-4 years if they continue to improve.

Cubs get swept, have dropped five in a row and are now three games under .500. This was the most painful loss of the series, though. Especially after tying it with two outs in the ninth.

The White Sox won a gift from the Royals today, gaining only 2 hits in the first even innings without scoring while earning 4 walks and a hit batter to get two runs in the 8th to steal the game 2-1. Contreras got his first win (his first decision) of the season despite pitching well most nights. Greinke became the tough luck loser, again, and is 0-3 for Kansas City. Takatsu picked up his 8th save despite walking Sweeney and Stairs in the 9th.

Well, if the Yankees want to fuck over their farm system yet again for three months of an over 40 pitcher, fine by me. It is EXACTLY these kind of moves that have the Yankees up the creek right now.

At the risk of sounding Anglesault-ish, the Phillies are done. D. O. N. E. Lieberthal is garbage. Bell is hurting (again). The bullpen is terrible (Fultz, Cormier, WORRELL, Adams). Only 2 starting pitchers are giving us anything (Lieber, Myers). Polanco bitches if he's not in the starting lineup. Leyland SHOULD have been the manager, but they instead went w/ good 'ol boy Charlie Manuel.

 

They need something to shake up the team. Bench Lieberthal, and start Pratt. Make a trade (i.e. Burrell/Thome/Abreu level trade, not Perez for [random backup IF]). Do SOMETHING, because I don't see the Phillies going anywhere w/ the team as it is. If they stand pat, things are going to get ugly.

 

Help me Al Keiper, you're my only hope.

I think there is still hope for the Phillies. The team slugging percentage is .359, which HAS to improve in the near future. I honestly think Marlon Byrd needs to be handed the starting center field job. Vicente Padilla should get demoted to the bullpen until he demonstrates he can pitch, and Ryan Madson should be given a chance to start.

 

Madson, Byrd, Utley, Ryan Howard. With Thome out, those four need to be given opportunities. There is still time to turn this around, and the talent is there.

There is nothing they can do though. Burrell and Thome's contracts make them untradeable without eating at least 50% of the contract (and there is about .0001% of ownership allowing that to happen) and Abreu does not need to be going anywhere. The problems on this team are expensive problems making them completely stuck.

 

The one change that needs to happen immediately, though, is Bell taking a couple weeks off and going with Polanco at 3B. There is no excuse for how little that has been done so far. Of course with Bell hitting in the 5 hole today I don't think ole Cholly is going to go that route.

 

On a side note, DNL was hi-freaking-larious today. John Marzano was running down the Phillies problems and he mentions an "abyss" in CF (Michaels and Lofton are 1 and 2 in OBP on the team) and again blows off Abreu by dropping in the whole "you never know what you are going to get" along with the classic "well Abreu hits .300 but when does he get those hits. Not in the 9th" (that one might have been Barkan actually but the point is the same). The team is doing bad enough that they don't have to make up problems to create discussion.

The Yankees are tied for last with Tampa. This won't last, but I'm going to enjoy this for every minute it lasts. I'd love to see them get last all to themselves, but I think they face Barry Zito tommorow so that's an automatic win.

How good does everyone see the Yankees being this year? I'd venture to say 88-90 wins this year. Pretty much carried by the lineup, Johnson and occasionally Pavano, and Mussina.
