Harry Potter Movies

Recommended Posts

I hated that in Chamber of Secrets too. All of the stuff about the Muggleborn/Pureblood conflict is explained by Ron in the books, but for some reason in the movies they changed it to Hermione, despite the fact that as a Muggleborn who had only known about magic for less than 2 years she would have little idea about how deep the resentment is. It doesn't fit with Hermione's character at all.

I understand the need for changes, and I have no problem with most of them, but there is no way that Hermione would have known all of that stuff, in either the book or the film.

Eh, it was a slap in the book, but that fits in with the exaggeration thing anyway.

I don't really compare movies with the books - I notice what they take out, yeah, but it's not a big deal to me how characters are portrayed as compared to the books. If it gets an audience, they may as well do it.

She stole one of Ron's greatest moments.

"If you want to kill Harry you'll have to kill us too!"- Ron says that in the POA, not the pink princess.

Emma also seems to have a very smug look throughout most of POA movie. She gives off this vibe, look at me, I'm an actress. It's still there in the GOF movie, even though her role is scaled down.

I consider her the weakest of the kids.

The biggest problem is not only was Hermione made into this "Super Hermione" but Ron was made to look like a bitch in POA. All of Ron's good lines were given to Hermione (i.e. "If you want to kill Harry you'll have to kill us first", which Ron said while standing on a broken freakin leg!) and Ron acted all timid around Malfoy. In the book they constantly have to hold Ron back from killing Malfoy, but in the movie Ron was all "shut up Malfoy" before practically hiding behind "Super Hermione".

It all stems from the fact that Steve Kloves (the screenwriter) has this hard-on for the Hermione character.

Another thing is in the book POA Hermione starts to crack under the pressure because she's taking so many classes using the Time Turner. That's one of the main reasons she hits Malfoy. In the movie she's as calm as ever. Her cracking makes more sense to her character since she's so focused on school and grades (evidenced by her boggart during the DADA Final in the book)

I think that's a little harsh. The Hermoine character is supposed to be confident and proud of her intelligence.

The smug look doesn't bother me because she had that the first two movies and I picture her having it in the book. It's the fact that she was given all the lines. Not just Ron's. In the first movie Hermione was given Dumbledore's "Fear of a name only increases fear of the thing itself" line. Plus they made it look like Harry and Ron were hopeless without her pretty much in POA.

So basically, Ron is the shit in the books while he is a pussy in the movies?

I have a question. The actors who play Harry, Ron and Hermione are outpacing the ages of the characters they play. In GOF, all three were 14-15 years old yet the actors are all 17-ish. Won't this disparity become more evident in OoP?

Potter on IMAX from imdb-

IMAX Has Its Biggest Weekend Ever

The combination of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and The Polar Express produced the biggest sales in history last weekend at IMAX theaters, according to IMAX executives. "As we kick off one of our most exciting holiday seasons yet with our partners at Warner Bros. Pictures, we're thrilled to report a record-breaking week and weekend at IMAX theatres," IMAX Co-Chairmen and Co-CEOs Richard L. Gelfond and Bradley J. Wechsler said in a statement. "The sustained box office performance of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire: The IMAX Experience and the better-than-expected opening weekend results of The Polar Express: An IMAX 3D Experience proves that the two films play very well together, maximizing IMAX theater show schedules at all times of the day. We are confident that both films will generate healthy financial returns for Warner Bros. Pictures and the growing IMAX theatre network." The Harry Potter movie brought in $1.85 million on 66 IMAX screens (bringing its total on the giant screens to $6.9 million), while the year-old The Polar Express took in an additional $1.2 million.

I don't know when they're starting OoP but-

Daniel Radcliffe is 16

Emma Watson is 15

Rupert Grint is 17

at the moment

And take off a year for when they filmed GoF. Believe it or not, Emma Watson is actually younger than her character.

Order of the Phoenix is scheduled to start shooting early in 2006.

With the way the scheduling of the past movies has played out, they'll be like 22, 23, and 24 for the final movie; which is fine. I think Cedric, Fleur, and Krum are in their 20s.

In the books, they are about 18 or 19. Krum may be 20, but I think he's 19.

And I hated how they cut stuff out/rewrote everything from the book. The first three movies were great, probably because the books are shorter. POA is still my favorite movie.

I have a feeling they are going to replace them for just the last movie.

Replace them for the last movie?? Why?? If you've had them for 6 movies why get rid of them for the last one? Everyone will be so familiar with the cast at that point that getting rid of them would probably kill the last movie.

That just doesn't make any sense. Especially with your line of reasoning being "You know Hollywood." Yeah, they are looking for sure money right now. Keeping the same actors for the same franchise of movies as the audience grows up with them (for the most part) is a license to print money as far as everyone is concerned.

It'd be like, "If you liked the first two Lord of the Rings...be sure to see the third and final movie as Frodo will be played by Kieran Culkin!" Just doesn't make sense.

I'm not suggesting it, I just think it might happen.

You know Hollywood...

Yea, and they're not dumb enough to replace the kids for the last movie.

Err, the WB did want Superman to get rid of the blue and red...

Anyway, I am on page 214 or something in OotP and even though Harry is bit of a brat, he has all the right to be.

People don't believe You-Know-Whos is back, he almost got kicked out of Hogwarts, he didn't get to be a perfect, and a few other things.

Besides, he isn't THAT bad. I am sure it gets worse, but for the time being he is fine.

The book is pretty good so far. I am having trouble putting it down.

The problem isn't so much that Harry is upset, but that he will lash out at people that had nothing to do with the stress he's under (namely Ron, Hermione & Dumbledore). Harry is almost obsessed with his Godfather in OoTP and won't listen to anybody else.

Harry hasn't even talked to Dumbledore yet. Well the part that I am on, which is 282.

It's a really good book though. I stayed up until 5:30 reading, which is bad since I missed my class today.

From Mugglenet.com:

GOF DVD coming March 7th!

Warner Brothers Home Video has today confirmed that Goblet of Fire will be released to DVD on March 7th. The film will be available as a single-disc, a two-disc special edition, and as part of a collector's set of the first four films.

Retail prices are set as $19.95 for the single-disc, $22.95 for the double-disc and $73.92 for the four film set. A PSP version will also be released, priced at $22.95.

DVD features include:

* Additional Scenes

* An interview with Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson

* Cast and Crew Interviews

* Preparing for the Yule Ball featurette

* Triwizard Tournament Challenges (Dragon, Lake and Maze)

* Triwizard Tournament and Voldemort features

* DVD-ROM: Hogwarts Timeline, Magical Trading Cards and Game Demo

Here's the cover art:

Single Disk: hpgofdvdsingle.jpg

Double Disk: hpgofdvddouble.jpg

Box Set with all four movies: hpgofdvd1-4.jpg

This continues a rather disturbing trend in recent DVD releases, which I believe started with 'A Series of Unfortunate Events', and carried on in movies like 'Batman Begins'and 'Charlie and The Chocolate Factory'. Hollywood is starting to realize that they can make more money by releasing a bare-bones DVD for the cheapskates, and what used to be a standard two-dis edition with extras for those of us who like that sort of thing. It seems odd that they are doing this now, after years of normaly including the second desk for free.

But aside from all of that, I look forard to getting the two disk set and adding it to my collection.
