Bruiser Chong 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2005 You know it's bad when you're a Cub fan. Ooo burn. I'll remember that one if I ever go back to the third grade. And on that note, the White Sox finally lose, hopefully shutting up their arrogant fans for a moment.

ISportsFan 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2005 Bad loss for the White Sox. No runs after the first inning despite, and we've heard this before, leaving a ton of runners in scoring position. The Rays deserved to win, which is not something that I should be saying, but it's true. I actually have the feeling that, while I do think the White Sox are a playoff team this season, that this will happen more often as the season goes on. The pitching will do a decent enough job, but with the way we're hitting we're going to lose games where we leave a lot of people on base and just can't get a hit at the right time. And Bruiser, I don't know if you have any idea how arrogant Cub fans are. The run in 2003 into the playoffs was my freshman year of college, and the sheer amount of obnoxiousness that occurred was unbearable. I'm sure there are many White Sox fans that are like that, just as I'm sure there are many fans of every team like that. But, the Cubs are not immune, and I can't explain how much I was rooting for the Marlins in 2003 just to shut up all the Cub fans who were constantly stating how horrible the White Sox were and how awesome the Cubs were. Dusty's defying the Tribe Co. by starting Hollandsworth, even after they reported that starting today, Dubois would be the starting leftfielder.

C Dubya 04 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2005 Question for Al.... I don't know if you saw the Phillies game or not last night, but Madsen was pitching and I was only half paying attention, so I don't know the names, but what happened was this. Manuel waiting until a left-handed pinch hitter was announced and then put in Cormier. The Brewers then changed to a right handed pinch hitter. I didn't think that you were allowed to do this. What is the actual rule?

What is the actual rule? I happened to catch it on the radio on the way home from the Red Barons game, so I know what you are talking about. For those who did not see it, the Brewers announced Lyle Overbay as a pinch hitter. The Phillies brought in Rheal Cormier, so the Brewers sent up Chris Magruder instead. This is perfectly acceptable. The catch is that Magruder is substituting for Overbay, who is then ineligible for the remainer of the game, since he was announced as a substitute and then replaced. C Dubya 04 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2005 Thanks Al. Now, the Phillies could not change pitchers again, right? I think that's where I got confused. Also, have you heard any details on Tim Worrell? I only caught briefly that he's caught a spot of the crazy, but is there anymore to it than that right now?
sfaJack 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2005 I know of no reason why the Phillies couldn't have changed pitchers again. It would have been really stupid to have done so, however. Micromanaging shit like that irritates me to no end. If you don't think your pinch hitter can capably handle the job, why did you send him up there (and likewise for a pitcher getting a guy out)? The lefty/righty matchup crap is so overblown.
mike546 0 Report post Posted May 10, 2005 Gammons is reporting the Yankees might make a pre-draft deal with Jerred Weaver when he re enters the draft. Guest Smues Report post Posted May 10, 2005 Edit: What the hell, interleague play starts NEXT week?? While I haven't seen any official announcement about it, I'm sure they're calling it rivilry weekend, as all the interleague games are the 'rivilries'. (New york vs new york makes sense, seattle vs san diego does not, but whatever). And it's just that wekened, then no more interleague until the normal June ones. The lefty/righty matchup crap is so overblown. Because Lyle Overbay has a strained groin, and Ned Yost did not want to use him unless absolutely necessary. Once Manuel placed Cormier on the mound, Yost had a better situation to use Magruder, and not risk further injury with Overbay. And I am fairly certain a pitcher must face at least one batter. Even better, apparently they plan on asking Giambi to accept a minors assignment. It is nice to see the Yankees' brilliant plan involves placing a hitter with a .386 OBP on the bench while Tony Womack plays left field. And I'm beginning to gather the impression that Vicente Padilla SUCKS.
