Raw Does A Good Rating

Recommended Posts

Guest wootman
This week's edition of Raw did a 4.3 cable rating (which is its best number in a while), with a 6.4 share.  The show did hours of 4.1 and 4.5.

In other ratings news, Velocity did a 0.6 cable rating, with a 1.1 share.

The WWE Experience did a 0.5 cable rating, with a 1.4 share.

Heat did a 0.8 cable rating, with a 1.4 share.

I think we have Viscera to thank for getting that nice rating, lol.

Oh, there is no doubt that he helped contribute to it. His serenede to Lilian came at just past the 10 o'clock hour. I bet next to the overrun, it did the highest quarter hour rating. Looks like WWE made a good call to put that segment at that time. I think we can look forward to seeing more of Viscera in some more sticky situations. His push is just getting started, and for that, I am thankful. :)

No doubt it was Vince being on the show that brought up the ratings. Even Vince knows that Vince = Ratings.

It's also a week that was advertised as "no HHH"...could that have had anything to do with it? ...nah, couldn't be...

Viscera probably brought up the ratings when he came out after the pillow fight but it probably went down when he went after Lilian again, hurting the what will he do next factor because he is always doing the same thing, but it might have gone up again when he sang Barry White, not sure.

Come on. It's obvious people tuned in to see the Masterlock challenge with the surprise return of Stevie Richards. I don't know about Viscera's segment there were boring chants during his promo.

I REALLY don't know what could have brought up the ratings. My guess: it's a mix of the fact HHH wasn't there, the Viscera thing, and maybe the teasing of a Flair face turn...

Oh, I know! It was the appearance of the crippled Randy Orton!

Ok, you're right, I'm just being silly now.

You can talk about the no-HHH thing all you want, but the real reason the ratings went up is pretty simple.

Instead of focusing on wrestling, they ran a lot of interesting angles that people stayed tuned for, instead of getting bored with. Batista bonding with Flair, Bischoff stopping the ECW match, Viscera being creepy, the Orton and Vince segment, and to a lesser extent, even the Lita turn all contributed to that.

If they can actually continue to put out quality writing for a while, they won't need to worry about turning Cena into the next Austin or turning Batista into the next Rock; the ratings will go up on their own.

I'd have thought that it was quite an anticipated RAW, with the Final of the Gold Rush tournament, Jericho and Benjamin and Flair vs. Christian. All of those things are quite Hot at the moment. The angle with Batista and Flair were really good though.

I believe it was a combination of things as well, but I think it's been weeks in the making. A goldrush tourney final with Edge and Kane must have surprised the general audience when HHH and HBK are eliminated from contention. Flair and Batista all buddy buddy. The real test is next week. Will people care to see Edge against Batista?

Agreed, if the ratings went up it was just due to the finals of the tourney and the #1 contender being decided. I've always maintained that ratings are decided by what people hear about going in rather than what they see at the time. They had a tourney final and also Christian/Flair hyped from the previous week, thus people were interested.

Which won't happen.

Flair has teased a face turn for two years now. I don't think he's ever going to turn face.

2003 - he teased a face turn on HHH, turned on HBK.

2004 - he teased a face turn on HHH, turned on Randy Orton.

2005 - he'll tease a face turn on HHH, will turn on Batista.

It will his yearly "fuck the fans" tease.

It's May sweeps. All TV viewers know that their favorite TV shows will be pulling out ALL THE STOPS to provide the highest-quality viewing experience of the year.

WWE fans were probably on the edge of their seat hoping for the returns of HHH or Stephanie.

I think everybody was waiting to see when Mr. McMahon will announce the draft. I was waiting for Snitsky to confront Viscera and say something like "I like the way you pick up women".

Well, next week the finales of most series are done, and we have the first realistic (if still incredibly small) chance of a title change on Raw in quite a while. I'd say they have a chance to break 4.5.

Is it just a coincidence that when Triple H misses a Raw it usually does better than what it's been doing...this has happened more than a couple times whenever he's been off the show, ever since that Raw in 2002 where the main Event was RVD vs Booker vs Jericho.

Absolutely.

I'm in a little discussion about the top ratings for RAW. I always hear This Is Your Life by many people(what's the rating?). However, I've also thought the Austin/Taker match and the 10 man tag with the Radicalz and Rock against DX was the top raw rated segments ever.

My belief about the This Is Your Life has always been that it wasn't the actual content, but the belief that Foley MIGHT have turned on Rock by doing this skit. I agree that it is sometimes what people hear is going on and tuning in rather than the content. This is not always true, but it is an aspect.

 I guess they failed miserably!!

So, will it stay the same or get worse when everyone sees Flair is back with HHH? How about Edge vs. Kane as a snoozer of a feud?

The TIYL was the highest rated non-match segment on Raw. I believe it was 8.25, or something like that.

TIYL was a train wreck deal. It just never stopped, and people were drawn to it like flies to shit.

I have always debated that TIY was something similar to the big number for the goldrush finals last week. The wwe built the segment up from prior weeks where it was plausible for the audience to believe Mankind would turn on Rock for the way he was treating him in Rock 'N Sock. That is why I think people stay tuned. They didn't deliver and the fans responded by changing the channel. I bet this is exactly what happened this week on raw. People tuned in to see the finals and they are turned off from what happened. Personally, I thought Edge and Lita sucked in that opening promo and it was stupid. How does Lita look like a heel in all of this to fans who don't know about the Matt situation? Add the horrible acting of Glen Jacobs as Kane and you got yourself a stinker. HHH has nothing to do with this crappy number OR the competition on monday. Obviously, they planned on having a big world title match to help them draw and it tanked. Edge sucks anyways.

You're probably one of the few people who think that the TIYL number wasn't a train wreck deal.

No, people were drawn in my the mystery person Mankind had under a sheet which ended up being a clown. That's what drew the number. Everyone was expecting a big swerve or big debut.

Where did I say it was a good segment? However, people on the net have used it to say it was a good segment because of the high rating. It sucked and I said it didn't deliver that's why the rating never got that high again for a stupid segment like that. As what said, the wwe made people think a swerve was going to happen. I'm sure people thought Mankind was setting up The Rock for the way he was treating him like crap.
