ECW One Night Stand matches announced

Recommended Posts

I predict there will only be two possible outcomes to this PPV. It will either go down as one of the all time classic wrestling shows, where just about everything works...or it'll be one of the biggest letdowns ever, where every single thing presented is a shitty watered down version of what used to be ECW.

It'll either be fantastic or one big pile of shit. I don't see this show having any middle ground really.

Well since RAW and Smackdown will be planning an 'invasion' it won't be the usual ECW.

I don't understand the purpose of the Bishoff/Angle stuff if they don't plan on doing something more with the ECW name.

I wouldn't be surprised to see someone on the One Night Stand show win the ECW World Title, maybe RVD or something. Then he starts bringing the title on RAW, and from there they somehow try to create an ECW faction which is both on RAW and SD (maybe each show with different members), eventually leading to Vince helping Heyman out by giving ECW it's own show.

Heck, I could technically see them just all out giving ECW the SD slot, if that's even possible.

If nothing like this happens though, I just don't see the purpose of the Bishoff/Angle stuff at all.

PWI reports that the original plan for One Night Stand was to have Eddie Guerrero vs. Dean Malenko, but Malenko had a family committment the weekend of the show and was unavailable. So, they went with Guerrero vs. Chris Benoit.

RRR: Your complaint of a bunch a moves is quite valid. It happens far too much between 2 real good wrestlers, and usually no one picks up on it.

Best example is the Owen Hart Memorial match with Bret and Benoit. Its is truly an aweful match with Bret obviously being past his prime. Nothing makes sense at all, it was just a bunch of stuff.

Unfortunatly, a lot of fans blindly watch their favs and really never actually realize if its good. See all that Lesnar/Angle garbage.

What I want to know is, who's booking the show? If it's Steffie, Vince, and their band of yes-men, I won't expect a whole lot. If Vince actually gave Paul creative control (even not full control, but general oversight) I would be muich more excited about the PPV. As it stands now, I don't think I'd be able to watch it due to work (I don't think it's one of my nights off) but if I read reviews that harken back to the real ECW days, I'd be likely to buy it on DVD.

I hope you are not being sarcastic with that god awful remark.  That match was horrible.  As was their match in Iraq.  Eddie/Benoit of late defines "random moves".

Well I agree with both of you. The match from Iraq was really bad. However, I thought their US title tourny finals match at Vengeance 2003 was really good.

In all fairness to both guys, it's gotta be close to impossible to put on a true ****+ match in 90-100 degree heat on a mat that must have been scorching in Iraq. Granted, I don't remember the match very well but I'm sure it was better than Rikishi/Rhyno or whatever else was on the show.

Tommy Dreamer is the head of control with Heyman as a creative consultant.

Bret/Benoit wasn't about whether or not the moves made any sense, or whether it was a good match or an awful match it was two guys going out and putting on a show in tribute for their dead brother/friend and what he meant to everybody there. picking holes in that because Bret was past his prime makes you seem like a right cunt.

I'd like to see Dreamer book himself to a world title.

I wonder if they will bring the titles to the PPV or mention them at all. Let alone have matches defending them. I have a feeling they won't.

Nah, Dreamer said he was pissed when he won the World Heavy Championship, so I doubt he would do it.

Amen to that. I've wondered why they don't give RVD a guy like Fonzie again to give him someone to play off of. Hell that RVD/Sabu/Fonzie stuff on ECW was flat out gold.

I think the point of this show is that it HAS to be something different. As in a Storm/Jericho match on Raw....who honestly would give a shit? But on the ECW PPV, it made my eyebrows raise a bit.

And yes, it seems to me as though ECW has to stick around in some form...why revive it and get fans in arenas to chant for it otherwise? Plus this could also play into established storylines with Bischoff screwing over the Raw roster guys who participate in matches on the PPV (rather than be his goons).

I think what you could see is a Bischoff/Heyman full scale war for Raw supremacy. Aside from Angle I don't see where SMDN really fits since Teddy Long could care less. In fact Angle really should be traded to Raw before the PPV so he could lead this bunch of jobbers to the slaughter.

I wonder if they'll lift the piledriver "ban" for this show. I also can't wait to see The Blue Meanie in the BWO now that he lost all of that weight. Seeing him on the ECW DVD, then now, it'll just be odd.

If Justin Credible can't do the piledriver than why have him on the show?

I would kill for Credible vs Jerry Lynn match with a RVD run-in making it a 3-Way-Dance.......and Sabu getting the pin for the win.

What has Gertner been up to the past few years anyway?

buy the 1st WEW dvd set, Gertner does commentary.

It really pisses me off TNA is not allowing Raven to come to that night. They really need the money right now.

Wait, I thought TNA gave all the wrestlers permission to appear on the show if they were asked by wwe?

Of course they have to have piledrivers. I repeat: It's friggin ECW! It has to be wild, out of control mayhem. If they really let these guys do their thing it'll make WWE look bad though, since WWE now uses a bland headlock filled style.

It's funny but the last SMDN PPV had a real ECW feel to it in some ways, from the Eddie/Rey matchup accentuating one area of ECW and then a wild, bloody brawl in the main event.

Yeah, doesn't Sinister Minister work for TNA?

The cynic in me thinks that they will likely have the current WWE guys go over the reg. ECW guys. As in Jericho in theory SHOULD beat Lance Storm since Storm is retiring and Jericho will be active. Ditto Dudleys over Dreamer/Sandman....they have to get up and work in WWE again soon, whereas Dreamer and Sandman really don't.

It's funny but I call Smackdown SMDN instead of something like SD because I thought it was clearer, haha.
