NBA Offseason Stuff

I disagree with the expecting more out of Harrington thing. He was a consistant scorer, rebounder and at the end of the year, playmaker for them. They would be stupid if they expected more than the 18 and 8 harrington averaged for the year, and I KNOW they don't think they are going to get those numbers out of Marvin Williams. Its all about hype. Now they have a flashy team with Josh Smith, Marvin Williams, and Salim Stoudimire out on the floor, and they want to get rid of there least spectacular player (who happens to also be the best player).

They are going to enter next year with 7 players with 3 years of less experience in the NBA. Al harrington is the odd man out in this youth movement...which is strange for a 25 year old to be the old guy.

The Pistons exercised the option on Darko's contract for the 06-07 season. Not sure what this means to a trade.

Neither here or there. It could've been a request by the Hawks to exercise the option to agree to the trade, since he would've been a free agent at the end of the year.

EDIT: I'm pretty sure the team options don't carry over to the next team.

Looks like the Collective Bargaining Agreement is now a done deal. Cap set at $49.5 million, with the Luxury Tax threshold at $61.7 million.

Other signings i can't be bothered linking, Juan Dixon to Portland, and Damon Stoudamire to the Memphis Grizzlies.

Actually Stoudamire is now saying that there's no deal, and that he hasn't even talked to Memphis. He's also saying that Houston is his first choice, but that Portland "is blocking everything" (I'm going to assume he means a sign and trade).

I don't know, the little guy is a playmaker and all but I feel uncomfortable paying him what would most likely be a large sum of money. Don't know why, I just do.

As previously mentioned, the CBA was *finally* ratified Saturday, and the signings will start on Tuesday. The deadline for the amnesty clause waivers is August 15.

Dumars wont bail on Darko until he's had at least one year (or a good portion of a year) without Larry Brown.

If we're nearing the trade deadline and Darko hasn't been able to contribute in any halfway significant way, then maybe he'll pull the trigger but not before imo.

Before the trade rumors made their way nationwide, I had heard from various local sources n shit that it was Atlanta who proposed the trade and Det turned it down. Smells to me more like a "if larry brown stays" trade which broke down.

One of the draft picks aren't lottery protected i don't think...

But oh well. Boris Diaw, while a great passer and rebounder and defender...I don't see him getting much playing time in phoenix. He can be the back up Small forward, or Point guard if they are so inclined. Raja Bell moves into the starting lineup now, but the Suns will probably make a HARD push for Michael Finley if the Mavs waive him.

Joe Johnson wanted to be the number one guy, so now he has that chance. he is a very good player and I think you are going to see monster numbers from him (I am predicting 25, 5 and 5 personally) but I think he will regret leaving a title contender for the Atlanta Hawks.

Well...he got traded from one team I love to the other team I like a whole lot....and I still can't stand his ass.

The addition of Posey is more positive than Williams. Posey gives you a good all around game and is athletic. Williams, while he does have flashes, doesn't have that winning intangible that I like to see from guys like Nash or Bibby, especially from the PG spot.

You guys haven't seen Jason Williams play in a few years outside of their horrid mismatches in the playoffs. The guy is legitimately one of the top 5 point guards in the league.

Williams/Wade/Posey/Haslim/Shaq would be a damn good starting lineup.

It's like a repeat of what happened to Stephen Jackson in San Antonio in 2003. He gets noticed for his sharp shooting during their championship run, gets into it with management and runs off to cash off in Atlanta. That worked out eh? I know that Atlanta has more promise this season then in 03-04, but it...still just reminds me of that situation here. Hope he enjoys the paycheck and being "the man".

Tom

Well, I say that Stephen Jacksons was completely different. Stephen was a free agent that no one wanted. The Spurs offered him something really REALLY low so he went shopping and found out there was no market for him. So he signed a 2 year contract with Atlanta (the second year was a player option) and went on to score 20+ points a night, and earning a damn good contract in his sign and trade with Indiana.

Joe Johnson wants to play the point guard in the NBA and he told Suns ownership to not match the Atlanta offer so he could get that chance.

Plus there are all these stories about him not liking all the attention Nash, Marion, and Stoudimire get and he gets left in the cold. Honestly, as much as the Suns needed him to win this year, he is still just showing he is the same bitch he was back when I was talking about how much of a bitch Joe Johnson is.

I thought the deal with Jackson was he ended up getting less money with the Hawks than he would have with the Spurs because his agent fucked him over.

I actually think it was less, but his agent knew what he was doing. He could have signed a longer, low dollar deal with San Antonio, or he could go and display his skills and get a big money deal. Where else to go to display your skills besides Atlanta.

Actually, I have seen Jason Williams play (I have the League Pass) and I don't think he's great. Good, but not great. On top of that, he's not very mature, even now that he's a vet. Witness last year's lockeroom blow up on a reporter after they were eliminated. Now I know it's a sensitive time and I can understand frustration, but it's not the first of many dumb things he's said or done. I just am not sure if he's a good fit for the Heat.

I wouldn't put him in my top 5 point guards in the league, maybe top 10, but no way he's better than..

Steve Nash

Mike Bibby

Stephon Marbury

Baron Davis

Jason Kidd

Chauncey Billups

I'd put him somewhere between Andre Miller and Tony Parker.

That blow up at the reporter was justified in my eyes, becaue the guy basically just printed some bullshit about him. Something where he took the quote and said that it was proof that Jason Williams doesn't care about his team and basketball. Then had the nerve to walk his ass in the locker room after playoff elimination, and after the game. Fuck him

The reporter took Williams' quote to him of context, then printed that Williams just wanted to throw the elimination game, just so he could go home quicker.

Taking THAT of context is a pretty big deal.

It appears that the Heat are looking into getting Antione Walker in a sign and trade, and them getting Williams seems though it is going to go through. So the MAYBE starting lineup for the heat next year:

Jason Williams

Dwayne Wade

Antoine Walker

Udonis Haslim

Shaq

Still, that is impressive.

Reports are that Jon Barry has agreed to terms with the Rockets. Love the guy when he's on our team. Most guys I'd attempt homicide on for pulling up and shooting a 3 on a fast break, but he does it about as well as anyone I've seen. Plus he busts his ass every time he's out on the court. Now resign Deke, maybe pick up a point if they feel they have to and the team is set.
