NBA Offseason Stuff

Recommended Posts

Hmm. Just heard on ESPN Radio (Stephen A. Smith), that neither team has cleared the traded players to play. The reason for this is not because of health (including Eddy's), but both sides are holding up the trade because the Bulls don't want to make the trade. They are waiting for Eddy to be cleared to play so they can stop the trade, and keep Eddy. Isiah is not saying because he's waiting for Sweetney, TT, and JJ to be cleared to play themselves. Once that happens, he's going to clear Eddy to play. Bottom line, Eddy appears to be ready and passed his physical and whatnot.

Why in the blue hell would the Knicks trade Houston?

He's an expiring contract. Unless they're getting another expiring contract, which is impossible for another team to do given the value of Houston, Isiah is using Houston and Penny to get where he wants cap-wise.

They need to look professional when in public, is it too much to ask these spoiled million dollar players to go buy a suit? I expect Allen Iverison to be a rebel and wear nothing but White-T's or Wifebeaters everwhere.

With the official end to the Tag Team of Crunkness,

Let's relive some of the fond moments....

curry25mk.jpg

During their first meeting in High School, Tyson was in awe with the body mass of Eddy. Eddy, however, became nauseous from hunger when he saw that Tyson did not weigh 458 pounds.

When the two received their Bulls jerseys, Eddy soon warmed up to Tyson. One could almost see the beginning attraction that Eddy had for Tyson.

Both players were quickly baffled with the pro game during their rookie season.

nbaeddytyson0kv.jpg

After their initial rookie woes, the players decided to go on numerous outings during the off-season, or dates, to develop a closer relationship.

The two friends quickly found they both had the same love, of throwing up gang signs and looking hard.

Eddy and Tyson were always babe magnets when they were out on the town. The two studs didn't even have to dress up. The young ladies found them attractive enough in their sweaty uniforms.

Tyson and Eddy soon realized they needed to partially clean up there crunk ways in public and act more professional about basketball.

The tandem took to stopping crime and cleaning up business on the court. Here they stop the crime of a former teammate, Marcus Fizer, scoring in the NBA.

The duo didn't stop with Fizer, they when on to demoralize more foes in the NBA. None better then the Lakers and Kobe’s bitch, Chucky Atkins.

After finally getting to the playoffs the Eddy & Tyson connection is no more. The two had become very emotionally attached to one another. Leaving was tough for the two, but Eddy was left with a small ass grab by Tyson to let him know that he still cares.

Yeah. That's another photo life story for another time. Jamal will no doubt be portrayed as a heel. If no other reason because he's from the Univ. of Michigan.

I got Celtics tickets for the game the day after Thanksgiving against the Bobcats, and a game in February against the Clippers. Ya know seein' how the Celtics will probably do this year, I should have probably bought tickets for the Spurs game or the Kings game or a Heat game, so I could have seen one good team. But I digress, I guess I just wanted to see a game where the Cs had a chance of winning.

Stern said that the dress code will be a lot less restrictive than what people are speculating. He says it'll be out next week sometime.

However, I dug up a nugget from ESPN and Marcus Camby that just baffles my mind...

Denver Nuggets center Marcus Camby added that the players should receive a stipend to pay for the clothes.

Un-fucking-believable. This nimrod wants money for clothes for the dress code. In this land of sports where you have the 12th man on any roster making what amounts to a first or second year doctor's salary, this request by Mr. Camby is ridiculous.

No its not ridiculous.

Not every player in the NBA is getting multimillion dollar contracts. Hell...alot aren't making a million a year. Plus you get taxed 40% when you make close to that amount. So that 1 million dollar a year guy is making around 600k. While living on the road. Not to mention family, yearly expenses and such. Camby is looking out for all of them.

So you are asking guys making 100 - 200k per year to go out and get dozens of suits tailored? These ain't regular guys that can go take advantage of the KG 2- 150 deal people. A 7 foot 250lb man cannot buy off the rack. For a tailored suit on a guy of that size you are talking a pretty penny.

If the NBA wants to tell these guys that their clothes aren't to be worn anywhere during the season (that is what they are pretty much saying) then they should pony up the bill instead of just saying hey, we pay you alot, so we can decide when large parts of your budget should change to fit our whims. They play SPORTS for a living. this whole dress code thing is just fucking stupid.

"We make a lot of money, but we spend a lot of money too."

Anyway, is it really asking so much for Allen Iverson to not look like trash? I bet the greats of the 80s and early-to-mid 90s could be bothered to look respectable for public appearances.

I mean, come on. A Wilt Chamberlain Philadelphia Warriors throwback is what, 250 bucks?

I don't think this is some draconian system here that Stern has in mind. It's just "don't look like you're coming out of a ghetto for photo-ops at the children's hospital." And most guys usually look professional already.

Here is the dress code for the 2005-2006 NBA season...

In a memo issued Monday, the NBA set forth a "minimum" dress code starting with the 2005-2006 season. The following highlights are excerpted from the memo:

1. General Policy: Business Casual

Players are required to wear Business Casual attire whenever they are engaged in team or league business. "Business Casual" attire means:

•  A long or short-sleeved dress shirt (collared or turtleneck), and/or a sweater.

•  Dress slacks, khaki pants, or dress jeans.

•  Appropriate shoes and socks, including dress shoes, dress boots, or other presentable shoes, but not including sneakers, sandals, flip-flops, or work boots.

2. Exceptions to Business Casual

There are the following exceptions to the general policy of Business Casual attire:

a. Players In Attendance At Games But Not In Uniform

Players who are in attendance at games but not in uniform are required to wear the following additional items when seated on the bench or in the stands during the game:

•  Sport Coat.

•  Dress shoes or boots, and socks.

3. Excluded Items

The following is a list of items that players are not allowed to wear while on team or league business:

•  Sleeveless shirts.

•  Shorts.

•  T-shirts, jerseys, or sports apparel (unless appropriate for the event (e.g., a basketball clinic), team-identified, and approved by the team).

• Headgear of any kind while a player is sitting on the bench or in the stands at a game, during media interviews, or during a team or league event or appearance (unless appropriate for the event or appearance, team-identified, and approved by the team).

• Chains, pendants, or medallions worn over the player's clothes.

• Sunglasses while indoors.

• Headphones (other than on the team bus or plane, or in the team locker room).

This is not out of line and is far from the tailored suits that some people were speculating. If I were a player, I would think it sucks that I can't wear what I want, but I don't think this dress code is that bad. I have the same dress code at my work, so I have little sympathy for the players and whether they can afford the clothes since I don't make anything near the least paid player of the NBA and I don't get a clothes stipend.

Oh come on. This is ridiculous. The NBA is mandating that it's players don't wear sunglasses or hats while they're traveling with the team. And they're basically saying that they have to wear a suit every time they give an interview. The fact that they even thought of this just shows how anal and PR-paranoid the NBA really is.

BULLSHIT.

I'm sorry man, 600K, ANY way you slice it, is god damn fucking good. There are ALL kinds of people who have to dress up for work who aren't making CLOSE to that. You're telling me 600K isn't enough to take care of a family?

You can get a "nice" wardrobe for fucking peanuts, it's not about the label it's about the look. Even having to get things tailored it's not like they all have to wear Armani. And do you know how easy it is for pro-athletes to make connections and get deals/freebies? That's the reason why a guy like Camby is bitching, because his entire wardrobe was probably comped. Dude probably hasn't spent money on clothes since his moms was buying for him back in Jr. High.

And yeah, it's "just" sports, I had to wear slacks, dress shirt and tie on game days in high school, and kids have to do it in college. It's sports and it's their job, if the boss says dress up for your job you dress up. I think the hats and sunglasses thing is overboard, don't these people remember Clyde Frazier?? But other than that I applaud the NBA on this, and laugh my ass off at anyone who wants to play the $ card, or even worse the fucking race card (I'm just dying to hear what Screamin A has to say  )

This sucks. I like seeing KG or AI all iced out in post-game interviews.

They're gonna go back to coochie cutter shorts and Chuck Taylors next.

And only set shots.
