I dunno man, Tical and ODB's first are pretty damn good, but I do think Liquid Swords is up there with them...

Don't forget "Only Built 4 Cuban Linx". And 50 Cent dissed Onyx? He must be destroyed!

I've got to admit that I know like next-to-nothing about rap, but did go through a semi-big Wu phase while in the middle of my dirty Phish-phan phase ... I ended up buying most of the early solo stuff, but kind of shelfed it all when I moved on. Just last week I found a tape that I'd put a bunch of the Gza tracks on as filler ... man, that was a good disc. I'd still put Tical as the best, and other than the really skippable tracks on Dirty's first, that'd be second. If I can find the actual disc for Liquid Swords - and like the rest as much as I do the little that I listened to recently - I might have to bump ODB down a notch. I haven't heard Rae's or Ghostface's in YEARS, so really don't remember how much I liked or disliked them.

Sorry to jack the thread with my random $0.02

Liquid Swords is probably my favorite Wu solo album too. Really all of that first wave--Tical, Cuban Linx, Ironman, Return--are great, but GZA's is the most unified, in my opinion. He works best with RZA's production, and all the samples give it a bit of cinematic cool. Admittedly, "B.I.B.L.E." is a really weird closer...sounds great, but the lyrics are kinda fundamentalist-terrifying in an unpleasant way.

Edwin- Pick up the Wu Tang Manual for a really interesting read. RZA tells the funniest story involving ODB straight-up ripping a shotgun out of the hands of some cat who was trying to mug him.

Only ODB could use "I keep shit stinks in my drawers, so I can get fzza funky for yall" as a line in one of his raps. He's also the only rapper I know of that has rhymed gonorrhea and diarrhea.

ODB ruled. Crack and hamburgers kill, though.

what I liked about the first wave of solo albums is that they all stuck to that familiar Wu-Tang sound...I guess it's because RZA did all the producing...the next few albums, the guys all started to get into their own grooves and I just couldn't latch on to it...does RZA still produce for their solo cuts?

I personally thought Tical was pretty lackluster. Meths voice got it more credit than it deserved to me.

Speaking of Wu-Tang spawned albums, the Gravediggaz "6 Feet Deep" is a really good album too, the shit they rap about makes Eminem look like a preacher in comparison. I won't even mention Brotha Lynch Hung :firing:

I've been meaning to pick up some Gravediggaz, but every time I see it at Newbury Comics it's uber-expensive. I figure I'll wait to find it used, or just wait until I next sell CDs and buy it with the profits.

Speaking of the Wu ... remember that wicked old Rza track, from long before he was the Rza? I want to say it's called "We Love You, Rakeem" or something like that? I remember seeing a clip for it on TV and have had the song stuck in my head ever since. Funny stuff.

only purchase the Gravediggaz album mentioned, it's their first one and the only one worth getting...

Question: I've never heard Inspectah Deck's solo stuff, is it any good? I always liked his work with the group, not sure if I would dig him all on his own...

I was living in Sac Town when Brotha Lynch Hung blew up. His second album, "Season of the Siccness" is flat out disturbing. For those of you not in the know, Brotha Lynch Hung's claim to local fame is he's a baby killing, atheistic cannibal. If you read that, he almost sounds like a death metal gimmick. Then you start hearing his lyrics. Just some really, really troubling stuff is all I'll say.

Yeah, he is of the same vein as Gangsta Nip with that death hip hop stuff.

I personally think it is a ploy to cover the fact that they suck, but hey...some people like them.

brother lynch is alright, i have a bunch of his stuff. He's not the sickest though...Esham, Bedlam, Mars, Natas, Prozak. All very nasty.

Best Esham album - KKKill the Fetus

Horrocore is my speciality.

Also Cage gets pretty sick with it sometimes

Blue collar to corporate

Bless the unfortunate

Like when i put my foot down, that bitch still aborted it

Stuck the canister under my arm like the lucky one

"Sir, you can't leave with that!"

Bitch this is my fucking son!

I don't think Marz even compares to Brotha Lynch, and that's coming from a Marz fan.

Seasons of da Sicness is a really good album, Brotha Lynch Hung can rap pretty good as well, so it's not like he's completely untalented.

Inspectah Deck has a really good solo album, "Uncontrolled Substance". I'd place it in the top ten of Wu-Tang related projects. Speaking of which, here it is, in no particular order:

Wu-Tang Clan: "Enter the Wu-Tang: 36 Chambers"

Wu-Tang Clan: "The W"

Method Man: "Tical"

ODB: "Return to the 36 Chambers"

GZA: "Liquid Swords"

GZA: "Beneath the Surface"

Raekwon: "Only Built 4 Cuban Linx"

Ghostface Killah: "Ironman"

Inspectah Deck: "Uncontrolled Substance"

Gravediggaz: "6 Feet Deep"

Funny note about the Gravediggaz album, it was released as "Niggamortis" in Europe.

That's a GREAT title for an album.

I've heard people say that, but they were referring to laziness.

I love the Wu Tang Manual. I read the chapter on live shows in front of my literary society a couple months ago. It has an esteemed place on my shelf between Watchmen and Ulysses.

Good stuff.

I really dug the story of RZA telling about their craziest live show ever.

"Then I see this nigga running across the stage shooting up the celing. And by 'this nigga' I mean ODB."

You can access it by going to allhiphop.com, it's on webpage. You have to have Window's Media Player.

I heard it and I have to say I am impressed that the song is over 10 minutes and he has quite a bit to say. I wasn't impressed with his flow at first, but listening to that song and how he sounds against the different changeup beats, I have to say Game's flow has me second guessing.

"300 Bars" was pretty good. Worth it to hear someone else rhyme over the fantastic beat from "Blueprint 2" at the end that samples "Ecstasy of Gold" from The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly.

Suge's in on it now. NY Post reported two consecutive nights Game's entourage was attacked by MOB Pirus with one face to face confrontation with Knight himself. As a result, they were both de-invited from Ciara's birthday party.
