St. Gabe Posted June 11, 2005 Report Posted June 11, 2005 I just got to thinking, it may be the beginning odf the end for TNA, what once was so promising, now may be the demise of the company after 3 years.
Art Sandusky Posted June 11, 2005 Report Posted June 11, 2005 I said "for a short time," but would rather there were a choice of "for a good while" or something. TNA will certainly keep on truckin' for a time, as they've done so before without any kind of TV deal, but I don't think the place can keep going for more than one more year unless wrestling explodes again.
eirejmcmahon Posted June 11, 2005 Report Posted June 11, 2005 They seem fairly confident that they'll end up back on tele - while they technically survived airing only on PPV, they were losing huge barrels of money - surely anyone investing in the company would see the loss of TV as a huge step back and a sign that maybe they've been backing the wrong horse. Someone does appear to have buggered up big time - they've known for months when their FSN deal was set to expire and yet they still conspired to be off-air two weeks before one of PPV events.
Carnival Posted June 11, 2005 Report Posted June 11, 2005 For a short time only, if they aren't on TV by winter, they will die.
CheesalaIsGood Posted June 11, 2005 Report Posted June 11, 2005 How WAS there buyrate when they were on PPV every week? Were really losing THAT much money?
natey2k4 Posted June 11, 2005 Report Posted June 11, 2005 They could go back to doing Weekley PPV's and selling them for $7.99-9.99 per week. Just tape 2 Weekly PPV's per week.. you'd save on production values and costs. Better than no TV, I guess.
iliketurtles Posted June 11, 2005 Report Posted June 11, 2005 No. They won't survive without TV. If they don't have a TV show lined up for the fall, then this promotion is D-E-A-D. Companies can't make their money off having weekly PPVs because the reason they stopped doing that is because they KNEW they had to gets some type of TV deal. I don't know why they are so confident unless they are in negoitations with someone they aren't revealing. From the sounds of it, it's SpikeTV, FSN again, or nothing.
Downhome Posted June 11, 2005 Report Posted June 11, 2005 Allow me to introduce you to: And to: They will be able to help you with this inquiry.
Youth N Asia Posted June 11, 2005 Report Posted June 11, 2005 I'm shocked they're not dead already. Why haven't they tried doing houseshows outside of their region? Panada obviously has the money to throw away here.
razazteca Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 Why don't they go on tour visiting the various NWA affialites?
Hunter's Torn Quad Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 TNA don't tour because they can't draw on the road. If they could make money with house shows or tours, they would be doing house shows and tours already. Is it really that hard to work out?
razazteca Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 Why not go back to the Nashville fairgrounds or do joint promotion shows with Wildside?
Hunter's Torn Quad Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 They had to comp Nashville a great deal. And joint shows with Wildside won't draw significantly more than solo efforts.
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 What TNA should do now that they went dark again is to stay off TV and whatever for a while longer, to wash some of bad stigma they got over the 3 years of being around (JJ's fed, idiotic booking, etc), grab a TV deal with some channel for NEXT YEAR or much later this year (winter), and go totally revamped. New sets, new style, etc, and starting off with the right champion this time (AJ Styles). Just my thought on this situation. It REALLY could be a blessing if they play it right.
Hunter's Torn Quad Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 The longer TNA are off TV, the less chance they have of making it. They need to get back on TV as soon as they can.
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 I realize the risk involved, which is why I said they should get a TV deal soon yes, but not being aired for a while. Maybe sign one with SpikeTV and waiting the Raw contract out, then taking over. That kind of scenario.
Hunter's Torn Quad Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 They are on good terms, apparently, with FSN, and could go back on there real soon. Chances are it's their best bet at getting back on TV, as I don't see Spike picking them up. They need to go to FSN on Monday morning, work something out, and get back on TV right away. A shitty timeslot on a shitty network is better than nothing at all. Delaying going back on TV when they have the option of going back on TV almost right away is a terrible idea.
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 I don't know. I would rather them not have gotten TV in the first place, and trying to expand in other ways (like actually drawing their shows instead of comping a good share of them) first. Followed by tours/house show circuit, and if they establish a presence in those areas, that would only be good to increase their success on TV. Now that they have actually blown their expansion load on a network that treats them, rightfully so, like an infomercial, well they might as well take the dog out to the woods and shoot it in the head (hopefully you guys know this as a metaphor and not a literal action. I dont condone animal violence. )
Hunter's Torn Quad Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 Ideally, starting out small with a few house shows than expanding slowly before getting into television is the way to go. But now that TNA have been on TV for a while, to go without TV is a step backwards, and they don't to take any more of those than they already have.
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 It is kind of taking a step backwards to go back to FSN. They just left that network. It's not like the WWE returning to USA because WWE had spent years away, so its more fresh for them to return. TNA doesn't have that luxury, and I'm of the mindset that they closed the door behind them, so they need to move forward. Any new TV deals involving the dreaded FSN network is not going to be good enough for me, personally. However, I can see your position that any TV is better than none, but come on, they are totally screwed.
Hunter's Torn Quad Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 TNA going back to FSN is a step sideways, and given that it's not likely they can get on any other network, it's the best step they can take, if not the only one they can take.
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 If they go back to FSN, would it be for the same kind of deal or would they actually get to air the shows without paying for the time?
Hunter's Torn Quad Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 I think it would be pretty much the same deal they had before.
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 Then I doubt Panda'd want the bleeder on their hands very much longer.
Precious Roy Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 Spike has a great thing going with UFC, and they run all those CSI repeats that get great ratings....I really can't see them picking up TNA. TNA will probably return to FSN, but I can't see them lasting past 06 at the rate they're going.
Guest beau99 Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 (edited) I personally don't see TNA back on FSN, if the rumors about WGN are true. Edited June 12, 2005 by beau99
eirejmcmahon Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 I think it would be pretty much the same deal they had before. As I've said, I think they'll be lucky to get that - if TNA are negotiating with FSN at the mo, they're doing so from a position of weakness.
Guest Fishyswa Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 They need to move foward to a prime time national slot, anything else has to be seen as a step back. I still say they don't have the product to compete though, which is really more important than having a way to present that product.
Guest JesusJuiced Posted June 12, 2005 Report Posted June 12, 2005 Do TNA still have Xplosion in some markets?
