Guest fanofcoils Posted June 15, 2005 Report Posted June 15, 2005 Angle beating HBK, Trish beating Christy, Eugene not posing with Hogan, Cena beating JBL, Rock not appearing?
Danville_Wrestling Posted June 15, 2005 Report Posted June 15, 2005 Trish over Christy to me given the choices. I was scared to death they'd make Christy the women's champion over Trish and have her do her stupid "Raw dance" and defend the title against the Diva Search 2 participants in pillow fights for the next 6 months.
Guest JumpinJackFlash Posted June 15, 2005 Report Posted June 15, 2005 Definitely Angle over HBK. You know how HBK always wants to win, even though Angle deserved the win(because he has had a losing streak at WM). Plus, when Taker beat Orton(Smackdown over Raw), I was almost certain that HBK would beat Angle(Raw over Smackdown) to even out the brands. What a surprise it was when Angle won!
Black Lushus Posted June 15, 2005 Report Posted June 15, 2005 I know you will think I'm nuts, but I was convinced they would have Orton beat UT...i mean, if anything would launch him as the next big star, beating UT at WM would do it...
pochorenella Posted June 15, 2005 Report Posted June 15, 2005 Shawn Michaels has a terrible WM record so it's really no surprise he lost.
Lil' Bitch Posted June 15, 2005 Report Posted June 15, 2005 Shawn Michaels putting Kurt Angle over at WM...clean.
Kahran Ramsus Posted June 16, 2005 Report Posted June 16, 2005 Trish winning. I thought for sure she was jobbing in one of the greatest tragedies in Wrestlemania history. Especially after she started treating Christy like a joke for the entire thing, and still won clean, despite interference from Lita. Other than that, Angle winning & Carlito showing up to interrupt Piper's Pit were the main surprises.
Aero Posted June 16, 2005 Report Posted June 16, 2005 (edited) Angle beating HBK, 100% clean was the biggest surprise, mainly due to Smackdown going 3-0 over Raw. As said above, once Taker won, I also thought Angle didn't have a chance in hell. Had I known that Booker T won the battle royal earlier, it would have lessened Angle's chances even more. Usually WWE seems to treat Raw > Smackdown. JBL-Cena, overall, was surprising, too. While I did actually pick Cena to win, the match was surprisingly uneventful. I was expecting a 20 minute brawl with blood and an overbooked finish of Cena fighting off the entire Cabinet to win... not a 10 minute average match with Cena casually hitting an FU to win. With that one FU, I sat there reassuring myself that it wouldn't take only ONE FU to end JBL's 8 month reign, but it did. Edited June 16, 2005 by Aero
Guest Arnold_OldSchool Posted June 16, 2005 Report Posted June 16, 2005 My Post was in reference to the title of the last thread in which WM was discussed months after the fact.
Guest *KNK* Posted June 16, 2005 Report Posted June 16, 2005 That I enjoyed the show. Shelton Benjamin using this opportunity to SHINE.
Shooting Star Posted June 16, 2005 Report Posted June 16, 2005 McMahon's Ladder Legdrop <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Not as cool as Liberace being on the show.
Prophet of Mike Zagurski Posted June 16, 2005 Report Posted June 16, 2005 I was there. I bought tickets off of Ticketmaster the day before the soldout event. I think another big suprise was HBK tapping.
TheFranchise Posted June 16, 2005 Report Posted June 16, 2005 My Post was in reference to the title of the last thread in which WM was discussed months after the fact. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Maybe this guy just got to see WrestleMania..? No I got nothing. What the hell is the nWo?!?
Carnival Posted June 16, 2005 Report Posted June 16, 2005 JBL's title reign coming to such an anti-climatic end.
Black Lushus Posted June 16, 2005 Report Posted June 16, 2005 the match started, literally, I went upstairs to let the dog out, get some more munchies and took a piss...when I got back downstairs, the match was over...
Kahran Ramsus Posted June 16, 2005 Report Posted June 16, 2005 On the bright side JBL had one of the coolest entrances in Wrestlemania history, and he and Cena got a proper blowoff at Judgment Day. However I still maintain, like I did at the time, that the I Quit match should have been the title change, not the Mania match.
MillenniumMan831 Posted June 16, 2005 Report Posted June 16, 2005 Plus if JBL pulled out a cheap win at WM21, they could have worked a stip where if JBL won the I Quit match, he wouldn't have to defend the WWE Title on television until his 1 year anniversary. However, he'd still defend it at 'live events' to possibly spruce up attendance just a bit.
zyn081 Posted June 19, 2005 Report Posted June 19, 2005 I know you will think I'm nuts, but I was convinced they would have Orton beat UT...i mean, if anything would launch him as the next big star, beating UT at WM would do it... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> As if the UT would ever do that. I mean come on. I agree that he is the most loyal servant in the WWE, but he never jobs. Plus if JBL pulled out a cheap win at WM21, they could have worked a stip where if JBL won the I Quit match, he wouldn't have to defend the WWE Title on television until his 1 year anniversary. However, he'd still defend it at 'live events' to possibly spruce up attendance just a bit. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I was like NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, YOU IDIOTSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. How could they let that punk ass white trash 50 cent wanabee win. JBL should have reigned till Eddie at SummerSlam. I like the idea MM.
Jingus Posted June 19, 2005 Report Posted June 19, 2005 HBK tapping out to Angle shouldn't have surprised anyone. After all, Michaels had tapped out to people before (to Benoit in the main event of Backlash for example), and Angle is the one guy who gets to beat everyone sooner or later, hell even Hogan tapped out to him. Trish beating Christy... so you guys actually expected a completely inexperienced playboy model to beat the most dominant women's champion of the current era in her first match? Yeah, I know the WWE has done some dumb shit in its time, but still that's a stretch on the biggest show of the year. To me, the biggest surprise was the JBL/Cena match as a whole. Like everyone else, I expected it to be an Attitude-era brawl with tons of run-ins & overbooking, and it turned out to be this weird little NOAH-lite match with no interference and a clean finish.
Guest Prof_Plague Posted June 19, 2005 Report Posted June 19, 2005 The only match that had me on edge was the Women's title match. I feared Hemme winning it, but saw some likeliness of it to happen considering what was going on in the WWE at the time. I was confident that Trish would win, but there's always that feeling.
PLAGIARISM! Posted June 19, 2005 Report Posted June 19, 2005 Though the height of his push had gone, I did have a feeling that Orton would do it, actually. Until the match. You just knew UT was on autopilot from the opening bell.
