Hunter's Torn Quad 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2005 You should read the thread at the ROH board about tonight's card. It makes you appreciate this place a little bit more. Not much more, though, but a little bit more.
Guest *KNK* Report post Posted June 19, 2005 Sadly there are batch of roh fans ruining the moment right now with their over-reactions (esp considering the show is still ongoing)... There's some good dicussion there however about wrestling, you just have to look.

There's some good dicussion there however about wrestling, you just have to look. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> How so? I don't want to go to that board to find out for myself. Edit: And if that's true Punk left with the belt, its official. RoH is to Punk what WWE is to HHH. They wouldn't even give a second thought to London leaving with the belt, feeling it'd devalue the belt to have the champ leave then vacate it. I just hope RoH has a hell of an angle to explain this. Otherwise whatever RoH fan is left in me is going to leave.
Guest *KNK* Report post Posted June 19, 2005 Yes, Daniels apprently challenged him on the spot and Punk agreed and ran out of the ring through the crowd with Gabe chasing punk...
Hunter's Torn Quad 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2005 This sounds too much like an angle done solely to swerve people who 'know' what's going to happen. If Punk leaves with the belt, and they have to have a tournament, it devalues the belt. If Daniels does beat Punk for the belt, then they not only eliminated a chase that people have been wanting to see culminated properly for almost three years, but they've possibly shot themselves in the foot, because who knows what TNA might try and do out of that. USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2005 Yes, Daniels apprently challenged him on the spot and Punk agreed and ran out of the ring through the crowd with Gabe chasing punk... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So they're portraying Punk as someone who'd take the belt and run for the other promotion? Alrighty.
Guest *KNK* Report post Posted June 19, 2005 *UPDATE* I was there...Punk is the champ. He beat Aries with a Pepsi Plunge. After, he cut a heel promo, telling us that we were all puppets. He also said he's keeping the belt. Christopher Daniels ran in then and challenged Punk. Punk grabbed the belt and ran out through the crowd. What was funny was Gabe ran after him screaming, "He stole the f---ing belt!" Then Daniels cut a welcome back promo. End of show

USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2005 Now that I've let it sink in, if this is a work, then this is a real stupid angle. However if this is a shoot, then I salute Punk for having the guts to do that.
Hunter's Torn Quad 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2005 If it's a shoot, which I doubt, then Punk's an absolute idiot.
Guest *KNK* Report post Posted June 19, 2005 And yet I don't see Punk pushing himself to the moon. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> he has his fair share of main events and big angles but he's wise enough to let others shine. He also trains the new students, works as commentator as well...totally devoted himself to ROH and didnt use it for his own personal sandbox.
USC Wuz Robbed! 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2005 The funny thing is that it was reported HHH had taken a liking to Punk for sharing a similar mindset. And HTQ, of course he'd be an idiot, but at least he'd teach Gabe not to let a guy on the way out win the title. And I also really don't think it's a shoot either. This is probably a worked shoot that no one would understand or like.

bob_barron 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2005 I was at the show. The Punk thing made no sense to anyone and left a really bad taste in my mouth. That said, Lacey spit at me and some guy yelled "Camel toe!" right as the women's match was about to begin, so I got my money's worth.
Guest *KNK* Report post Posted June 19, 2005 detailed review from the board 1) BJ Whitmer and Jimmy Jacobs defeated Jimmy Rave and Fast Eddie (w/Prince Nana and the Embassy) to retain the ROH tag titles in 10:03. This match never seemed to get going and the two teams didn't seem to click with one another. Whitmer and Jacobs won with the Art Barr/Eddie Guerrero huracanrana off the top rope with the other guy on the shoulders of his partner. 2) Lacey defeated Cindy Rogers in 4:41 3) Carnage Crew defeated Dunn and Marcos in an anything goes street fight in 8:36. This wasn't as good as their match last weekend in NYC, but still a good fight. Last week Marcos bled like a pig, tonight was Dunn's turn. Finish saw Dunn do a header through a table at ringside (at least it wasn't a ladder like last week), and then Marcos got a splash mountain/neckbreaker combo off the middle rope through a table for the pin. 4) Samoa Joe defeated Colt Cabana to retain the ROH Pure title in 14:07. Joe lost a rope break in the first thirty seconds of the match when Cabana purposley got him tied up in the ropes with a submission and the ref called it a rope break. This match was pretty good. Neither man took any serious bumps, but still were able to have a competitive match with one another with chain wrestling. 5) AJ Styles (w/the NWA world title belt) defeated Petey Williams (w/Prince Nana and the Embassy in 16:36. Petey was the mystery opponent. Before Petey was brought out, "Disposable Teens" played, which is Christopher Daniels music, but most people realized he wasn't coming out. Instead, Allison Danger returned to ROH and cut a promo about how Daniels was coming back soon (July 8th in Long Island it was announced) and that the Prophecy would return. AJ then came out and got a huge pop for his return to the company. They had a really good match, probably as good as their match from the first TNA monthly PPV. Styles missed the spiral tap. Finish saw Styles win with the Styles Clash. Afterwards, Nana demanded Jade Chung slap Styles which she didn't want to do. Styles went after Nana but Jade hit him with a low blow. Jimmy Rave ran out and layed out Styles with his own Styles Clash. After AJ recovered, he was headed towards the back, and Petey came back out and attacked him, and threw him in the ring and hit the Canadian Destroyer. Styles sold it like he was dead. INTERMISSION -- At this point, the card was pretty lackluster. The crowd didn't seem into the show much, and it seemed as if the wrestlers were holding back.... 6) Izzy and Deranged defeated Roderick Strong and Jack Evans in 12:04. This was a really good spotty kind of match with alot of dives and flips and whatnot. Finish saw Evans get pinned after a top rope t-gimmick. 7) Nigel McGuiness defeated James Gibson, Homicide and Azreal in a four corner survival in 20:29. Story of the match was the Gibson/Homicide fued. Good match. 8) Low Ki and Jay Lethal went to what was announced as a no contest in 15:14. The fans finally came alive here. Lethal is just so over. This was an excellent match, very stiff. Low Ki brutalized Lethal, but Lethal kept fighting back. Finish saw Lethal hit the dragon suplex, but Julius Smokes jumped in the ring and attacked Lethal. This should have been a win for Lethal by DQ but they announced it as a no contest. Finish not withstanding, this was great. 9) CM Punk defeated Austin Aries to become the new ROH World champion in 30:30. Words cannot do this justice. Everyone knew that this was going to be Punk's last match in the company, and he was over like a god. The heat for this match was just tremendous. Crowd went crazy for Punks entrance, and just like last weekend in NYC were chanting "please don't go" and "thank you Punk" and "CM Punk" over and over. Literally every time Punk did something, the crowd cheered. And everytime Aries did something, even just a simple look to the crowd, the fans booed the hell out of him. It was basically the most ideal situation, a babyface vs a heel. The match itself was a bonafide match of the year candidate. Aries gave Punk a death valley driver on the ring apron. Finish saw Aries keep trying to go for the 450 splash, but Punk kept getting up and trying to meet him on the top rope to hit the Pepsi Plunge. Eventually, Aries countered and hit Punk with the Plunge instead, and Punk Hulked up, kicking out at the count of one, and the place was going crazy. I believe the actual finish was Punk hit the Pepsi Plunge himself and got the three count. Mega pop for the finish. The crowd was going crazy. They demanded a speach from Punk. Punk talked about how the ROH title was the most important title in North America. He went on to talk about the story where a man finds a snake in the ice and he saves it, and then the snake goes and bites the man. And then... Punk did a total 180 and turned completely heel. He told the crowd that he was just like the devil, and that no one saw this coming. He went on to call us all suckers for believing. He said that the ROH title was the most important title in the world now. The fans completely turned on Punk as well, and Punk was getting incredible heel heat. He said no one in the locker room could beat him for the title, and dared anyone to come out and try. Punk turned his attention to the entrance waiting for someone, and as he did, Christopher Daniels came through the crowd and hit the ring drawing a gigantic pop. They fought for a brief few seconds, and Daniels went for the Best Moonsault Ever, but Punk cleared the ring and Daniels landed on his feet. Daniels challenged Punk for the title right then and there. Punk refused and left through the crowd, never to be seen again. I honestly thought we were going to see a match, but it didn't happen. Daniels got on the mic and talked about how Punk, in storyline, took him out of ROH, and when he was ready to return, he had to make a choice between ROH and TNA and he had to pick TNA. He stated he was happy to be back and that his goal was to win the ROH world title. NOTES: The show started out pretty weak, but after intermission business picked up. The main event and post match angle was incredible to see, worth the price of admission alone....They announced a return date of August 20th....The building was really nice, and big. There was tons of space to sit, attendance looked to be about 700, give or take....Thanks to Paul Sosnowski for the match times.
Jingus 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2005 To the people who think it might've been a shoot: you guys are being complete marks. How the fuck is it possible that Punk could legitimately hit a Pepsi Plunge on an unwilling opponent and then cover him for a shoot 3-count? That's physically impossible. Plus, I doubt that the other wrestlers and ROH staff would just stand around with their thumbs up their asses and let him talk on the mic for several minutes afterwards. Not that I believe it myself but maybe they thought there was supposed to be Daniels vs Punk with Punk jobbing to conclude his career in RoH only for Punk to run out with the belt. Great stuff. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> O yeah, sure. Hart got screwed and this punk gets to run off the belt. ROH may have dropped the ball here. IMHO if Punk was going to win the title he should have done so off Joe. I dont know how ROH can explain this, especially if this was Punks last show though. They will most probably say due to his work with ROH they are letting him keep it, which is lame but possibly the best way to go. Fans could wait for him with daggers to come back. Doesnt the E let wrestlers workd ROH shows? Pretty dumb if he cant come back. Nice to Daniels come back as face. ROH seem to be going through the doldrums a bit. Their shows havent been that stellar. They have been good, dont get me wrong, but not the standard that ROH puts out. Could it be because of Joe, Punk and Am Drag leaving or quasi leaving? Mystery Eskimo 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2005 (edited) The ROH board is really funny today, its true. I understand people not liking Punk being the champion from personal taste, but its a big title change that has everyone talking, whats so wrong with that? Plus if Punk does leave they can throw together a World Title tourny thats bound to be a big tape seller. But Punk is nothing like HHH, its a ridiculous comparison. Punk has put everybody over in the past. Edited June 19, 2005 by Mystery Eskimo
