The Top 50 NBA Players of My Generation

Recommended Posts

Which is why I don't understand making players better around him argument. Are you kidding me? Starks wasn't better because of Ewing? Harper? Oakley? Mason? Jackson? The list goes on. It's laughable to think that Miller made players around him better when all he did was shoot and use screens to set HIMSELF up. Come on now.

On the ugly offensive game, the turnaround jumpshot was beauty.

Miller made players around him better the same way that Jordan did. When you have a offensive player that you had to worry about so much, it took the pressure off other players and cleared the way for them to be better. Both made their teamates better.

Still, there is no way that Miller is top 10.

He was the star of one of the top 10 teams of this era. Outside of Rick Smits( and Detlef for a quick second before that retarded trade) he was pretty much the teams offense. I mean is arguable, but a NO WAY is a little strong.

Ewing? I'd place Ewing above above Garnett (still young, Ewing has had better seasons with his team), Iverson (same thing, Ewing has had better seasons with his team, above Barkley, and that's it. Although I feel he's above Stockton, but i'd get shot for that so no, forget that.

Explain how Ewing is above Barkley, please.

Well, Ewing is 7', and Barkley is 6'5".

Of course, Barkley encourages us to Shut Up and Jam! Which is quite funny, considering Barkley has not jammed in five years and he never shuts up.

That's not a statement in favor of one player over another. I'm just rambling.

He was still jamming when that game came out.

And Barkley wins because if nothing else, he had better looking shoes.

Ewing never played with a bonafide all-star player like Barkley always did. He was also never a good defender, and neither won titles. So there.

Barkley was a better rebounder, scorer and please share with me who this other bonofide allstar was in Philly? And a damn good defender, he just wasn't a stopper, although I dare you to name a stopper that is under 6'5".

I'll give you Philly, but with Kevin Johnson? Then the Rockets? Ewing changed games on the defensive end, neither was a much better scorer than the other as both averaged near the same, while Ewing played less minutes a game. It's not like Barkley's career high in points ever reached 50 anyway. Barkley was a better rebounder, but not as much as Ewing was a much better defender. Blocking, altering shots, and making players fear going downlow.

Anthony Mason and Derek Harper, while not in the same league as KJ at the time, weren't pushovers.

And Shawn Bradly altered and blocked more shoots than most player in the league includeing Jordan and Barkley. That comes with being tall. Barkley was all of 6'4" (thats being generous), was a incredible scorer, and one of the great rebounders ever and one of the 4 guys in NBA history to get 20,000 points, 10,000 rebounds and 4,000 assists. dude really was amazing.

Harper only played 2 seasons with the Knicks, and Mason wasn't anywhere near the impact Kevin Johnson had. I'm just saying, as great as offensive player Barkley was, he still wasn't much on defense. Ewing was a good offensive player, not like Barkley, but he's not as far behind on the offensive end as Barkley was on the defensive end to Ewing.

I will admit that Ewing owes a lot of success to Charles Oakley...that guy killed himself in the name of defense and could hit the outside shot from time to time...takes a lot of pressure off of Ewing...

I just noticed this. Derrick McKey was one of the underrated defenders of the time, IMO. We had pretty much no perimeter defense whatsoever before he came along (and an 8 1/2 point turnaround in points allowed per game his first year). I'm not going to shit on that trade at all.

Being a good shooter is the best thing you can have in basketball. Ewing was a terrible passer, made no one around him better and was an average shooter.  Yah he was better at big man stuff and Regiies main flaw is his D, Ewing created nothing and gave nothing to anyone else. He made no one better.

But Reggie Miller did? Bitch please.

All he ever did was have everyone on the team set 35 screens for him, so he could jack up three pointers. He couldn't even create his own shot, let alone get other guys involved in the offense.

I'd say somebody who gets 10+ rebounds per game, passes well out of the double team and plays great help defense in the post "makes his teammates better" more than someone who scurries around the floor like a chicken with his head cut off and completely disrupts the offense in order to attempt as many 3-pointers as humanly possible.

I never said Reegie made players better, but that wasn't his role. His role was the finish, thats the way the offence was designed. And he created his own shot all the time when the screen didnt work. He pumped and adjusted to get out of double teams.

FYI, Ewing was a terribly overrated passer for thr amount of time he SHOULD have passed.

And its the only way he could in his spot of the offence. You NEVER say Reggie being guarded loosely and given room.

Think about it this way:  Would you place him above Jordan, O'Neal, Malone, Barkley, Duncan, Olajuwon, Robinson, Iverson, Garnett, or Stockton?

Jordan- #1

Shaq- #2

Malone- Tied

Barkley- Just behind

Duncan - 3rd

Olajuwan - 4th

Robinson - 6th

Iverson - Fuck yah

Garnett - Fuck yah

Stockton - 5th

He is tied with Malone for 7th, with Barkley 9 and Ewing being 10th.

Malone, Barkley and Ewing >>>>>>>> Reggie Miller. The guy was nothing but a shooter. That's all he did. He didn't rebound, he wasn't a good passer, and he wasn't a great defender. I could understand an argument of Barkley over Ewing, but Miller tied with Malone and above Barkley and Ewing is fucking laughable.

The absolute thought of Reggie Miller being nearly as good of a player as Patrick Ewing, Karl Malone and Charles Barkley makes me want to lean over a toilet and purge myself.
