Big Show

Recommended Posts

I was just watching the Andre the Giant DVD yesterday and it got me thinking about the Big Show and how long he has left in his career.

I don't know what medical condition he has, if any, that makes him as big as he is. But is there any expectation that he should retire by a certain age to remain healthy?

Also, is he expected to have the lifespan of an average person or will he have similar problems to Andre?

Andre suffered from Acromegaly, and Big Show suffered from it too. The difference is that Show was able to get it treated early on, and no longer suffers from it. Andre, unfortunately, had no such option available, and as such was doomed to the short life he had. With Big Show having the disease taken care off very early on in his life, he won't have the same restrictions on his career or life. With that said, him not taking care of himself in terms of eating and working out won't help him live as long as he could.

He's still fairly young, too, isn't he? I thought he was only mid thirties at most... too bothered to look it up right now. And I'm sure he'll be like other wrestlers, i.e. still hanging around WWE long after his in ring career has ended.

I hope Big Show is able to stick around and wrestle until the end of his contract, at the very least. I have no problems with the guy, and find him to be quite entertaining. He has a very impressive ring presense. I'm hoping he gets drafted to RAW as one of their final 2 picks this week. He hasn't been active on RAW since mid 2002(?) and I think he would make an impressive addition to the roster.

You know, Big Show never got the Andre the Giant push in WWF (undefeated streak and a monster).

I still think that's what they should do. He should be an unstoppable, monster heel. Moreso than even The Undertaker ever was. He should just demolish all whom oppose him in the ring. I'd believe it. Why not? Give him a two-year reign. Hell, Bradshaw had the belt forever.

He doesn't bring the workrate but who cares? WWE never appeases us.

It also creates a Hulk Hogan-like babyface when that said face finally defeats the Show.

Which would be a rub that they could give to anybody. It'd be instant credibility. "Hey, he beat Show. No one could do that for two years!" Even in this day and age, that'd have to mean something.

I thought it was a pretty big deal when Samoa Joe finally lost the ROH title....

Sadly he's been jobbed so much that a 2 year invincible run would not mean as much as if it started in 1999 when he debuted. Nowadays there's just too many people that could claim they beat Show prior to the invincible run. Although Andre did lose quite a few matches before they played his invincibility prior to the Mania match with Hogan.

Wasn't Andre defeated for, like, five years? I actually thought his match against Hogan was his first loss. Is that not true? If not, I don't know how I got that in my head.

I certainly don't remember him ever losing as a babyface prior to coming to WWF.

Anyone remember an interview with Show recently that said Kurt Angle was on him about training, eating right and getting back in shape? That could be enough to start an "unbeatable" angle. If Show got back in good shape and showed an improved physique, he could logically be booked as unstoppable.

I can't seem to find a site that lists matches for individuals in the 1980s but I swear I read that Andre had been losing a few matches, but in order to make a huge moneymaking angle between Andre and Hogan they created a storyline where Andre had been undefeated for years when in fact he wasn't. He did probably have a small undefeated streak to put over the angle more.

Acromegaly

Actually, Show did lose weight from 500 pounds down to 470.

Id like to see him on RAW too. As a heel might I add. Vs Tista, vs Kane mainly. Although he should start as a face, but I prefer the monster rather than the fun loving guy.

Im sure HHH wouldnt mind headlining a handful of ppvs with clean wins over Big Show.

Neither do I the worthless SOB.

They billed it as the unstoppable force meets the immovable object. IIRC it was the 1st time they ran such an angle.

I thought I heard the "Original" Sheik beat Andre.

I think I have a match where The Sheik wins by DQ. I believe a couple of other wrestlers did the same and there were probably a lot of "No contests." I know he had one with Stan Hansen.

Okay, the first thing he needs is a different name and music (ie, repackaging); does anyone release that he really hasn't changed ihis entrance/name in 6 years (other than shaved head). I think pretty much everyone else has been repackaged. Problem is right now, everyone has done something to him despite his size (morgan and Brock did F5s to him, Angle did angle slams to him, etc.)

To be revamped and credible he needs:

1. To be traded to Raw

2. Repackaged with a different name (Big show sounded stupid when he debuted in WWE and does still)

3. A manager

I think that he should get a new finisher too. The Chokeslam isn't a big deal anymore in wrestling. Hell, The Undertaker and Kane both still use it and they're WWE wrestlers.

It needs to be something that takes advantage of both his size and weight. Like, he picks them high into the air and then lands on them during impact. Something like that. It has to pop the crowd though. Too bad Goldberg made the Jackhammer a finisher already.

Whenever someone needs to re-establish themselves and get over, I think all it takes is a new finisher to make them credible. Hell, look what the Meltdown did for Wrath in WCW.

A top rope splash!

Seriously though he needs to do a powerbomb because coming from someone like him, it'd look devastating, especially if he puts some force into it.
