It had a PSA of about $4,550 which is pretty good.

 

It did almost $1,000 more per screen then Herbie.

Star Wars is now the 10th highest grossing film of all time, passing Jurassic Park, and now behind Passion of the Christ.

 

EDIT: Rize had a PSA of $4,545. Not bad, but I think they expected more.

Well except for Fahrenheit 9/11. And Super Size Me did better then expected as well.

 

You Got Served ended up making 40 million, so I'm willing to bet it will make more then Rize.

It was made for about $15 Million. Not exactly a low budget, but definately less than the average summer movie.

1. Batman is number one again.

2. Wasn't the budget 120 mil? It's officially turning profit in its second week of release, then. if I'm wrong on that, let me know. I'm sure I remember the officialy budget being 120.

Not for a long time. Not unless ticket prices dramatically increase to the point it could match Titanic's #'s.

 

Alot of people think movies like Star Wars or LOTR or Spiderman will break Titanic's record but they fail to realize those movies lose momentum after about 3-4 weeks and just float around and that those movies aren't getting a crucial fanbase (teenaged girls) and are being released in the summer(Something LOTR was smart to counter by having winter releases).

 

If you plan on beating Titanic, you need a epic love story, a good looking pair of leads, a historic event, lack of competition at the BO and amazing repeat business.

i think its actually 140 or 150. However, it has already made a profit as far as worldwide BO gross goes, which is 162 ish.

Too bad about Land of the Dead. It didn't do bad, but the Dawn of the Dead remake did something like 25 million its first weekend.

Land of the Dead will turn a nice little profit though, budget was only 15 million or so. It is cool in its own right but I don't think it is shall we say...mainstream. Dawn of the Dead followed the new trends of fast zombies and also had little competition (wasn't it released after Passion of the Christ, hardly the same audience). LOTD would have been better served to come out around Halloween.

I doubt it's considered a failure when I didn't even know it came out, hadn't seen a single preview and it starred Nicole Kidman, whom isnt box office gold herself.

 

I think making $20 million is just "well it didn't tank so that's good"

 

RT idictates it was largely panned so it didnt get good reviews which only made it worst.

Kidman does a lot of movies people just flat out wouldn't think of paying money to see. Stuff like Birth, Dogville, The Hours....art pictures, not really commercial.

 

Some of her movies have done fairly well, like The Others (which did 96 million in the US), Cold Mountain made 95 million, The Interpretor made 71 million. Interesting that she hasn't been the star of a single movie to make 100 million in North America though.

This is good news for Batman Begins. This could be like another Pirates of the Caribbean with a modest opening weekend, but still making a large amount of money by staying in the top ten for a while. There's a good article on the success of the movie here.
