Epic Reine Posted June 27, 2005 Report Posted June 27, 2005 Yea, this company has been mentioned and referenced to since the 90's and I never knew what the hell it is. Is it something that sanctions and sponsers WWE events or what? What's Titan Towers?
Prophet of Mike Zagurski Posted June 27, 2005 Report Posted June 27, 2005 Titan Sports was IMO a dummy corporation used before the WWF went public. Titan was the parent company of the WWF and World Bodybuilding Federation. Well the WBF fell through and there really wasn't a need for Titan Sports.
snuffbox Posted June 27, 2005 Report Posted June 27, 2005 Do they still call the main wwe office Titan Towers? Or was that kayfabe?
MDH257 Posted June 27, 2005 Report Posted June 27, 2005 Titan Sports was the corporate name for the WWF. I had heard the phrase "Titan Tower" to describe the headquarters in Stanford used by the likes of PWI, Meltzer, and Keller. I've never heard Vince or anyone who works there refer to it as such on tv. Shortly before or at the time of the company going public, they announced the corporate name was changing to "WWF Entertainment Inc." I think people still call it that because there just used to the name. The idea of calling it something else reminds me of how when the name change happened CRZ started refering to the "Titan-tron" as the "Entertainment-tron" in his recaps. BTW, I remember a newsletter reporting that after Sean Mooney left the company and got gigs anchoring the news in NY and Boston that on his resume he listed that he had worked for Titan Sports instead of the WWF.
Slickster Posted June 27, 2005 Report Posted June 27, 2005 Also, The Big Show was reportedly going to be brought into the WWE as 'Titan' when he debuted in 1999.
Black Lushus Posted June 27, 2005 Report Posted June 27, 2005 thank GOD we got that awesome Big Show name instead...
swan Posted June 27, 2005 Report Posted June 27, 2005 In 1979, Vince McMahon founded Titan Sports, Inc., and in 1982 purchased the WWF from his father, Vincent J. McMahon. Off the back of the success of the Attitude era, on October 19, 1999 the WWF's parent company - Titan Sports, Inc., became a publicly traded company. To boost recognition, the company changed its name to World Wrestling Federation Entertainment (though its wrestling company was still known as the WWF).
The Decemberists Posted June 27, 2005 Report Posted June 27, 2005 Vince Snr ran the WWF under the umbrella of his Capital Sports Group. When Vince took over he repositioned the company under his Titan Sports company. Oh, and Mick Foley calls the HQ Titan Towers in his books, so I guess that makes it sort of more of an official name.
Guest Dale Earnhardt Posted June 27, 2005 Report Posted June 27, 2005 I'm fairly certain that during the Austin CEO angle, they called it "Titan Towers." If not, in Austin's "Hell Yeah" Video, Austin refers to McMahon's concrete Corvette being on display in "Titan Towers."
Guest Gary Busey Posted June 28, 2005 Report Posted June 28, 2005 If I remember correctly, Vince promoted little hockey games and stuff like that using the Titan Sports name before he bought the WWF.
