muzz Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 What are some of the big games that are exclusive to the 360 and Playstation 3? I have chance to get a cheaper X-Box right now, but I also have access to a lot of Blu-ray titles from where I work.
AnonymousBroccoli Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 Just noticed you're in Australia. I don't know if any of these wouldn't be available there. And any comments about cheapness and/or release dates would be for North America. 360: Gears of War (1 & 2... though 1 is on PC) Halo (3, Halo Wars, and Recon Fable Mass Effect (also on PC, now owned by EA, so sequels will probably be multi-platform) Forza Motorsport (2 available now, 3 possibly coming) Project Gotham Racing (3 & 4 available now, and probably cheap) Left 4 Dead (also on PC, may get a sloppy PS3 port at some point, like The Orange Box) Rare's lineup of good, but not spectacular games (Viva Piñata, Banjo-Kazooie, Kameo, Perfect Dark Zero), most probably available pretty cheap Dead Rising (Wii version, and I think a PS3 port might be coming) Crackdown (sandbox superhero type game, probably pretty cheap now) Ninja Gaiden II Dead or Alive 4 A lot of downloadable games on the Xbox Live Arcade: Braid (coming to PC, possibly PS3 if they'll have it) Geometry Wars (1 & 2) Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (PS1 classic) Rez HD (trippy shooter/music game originally on Dreamcast & PS2) Castle Crashers (old-school beat-'em-up with 4-player co-op play) Ikaruga (punishingly difficult old-school shooter) Xbox Live Arcade Marketplace to browse, if you feel inclined PS3: Metal Gear Solid 4 (exclusive for now) LittleBigPlanet Gran Turismo (5 Prologue out now, full 5 possibly in '09) God of War (3 possibly released in '09) Resistance (1 & 2 available now) MLB: The Show Killzone (2 out in February) Ratchet & Clank (Future: Tools of Destruction on Blu-Ray, Quest for Booty on PlayStation Network for download) Uncharted (1 out now, 2 possibly in '09) inFamous (probably in '09) MotorStorm (1 & Pacific Rift out now) Heavy Rain (an ambitious-looking adventure game... possibly in '09) Valkyria Chronicles (a lauded strategy game, available now) Lair (dragon action game... might be decent now that you're not forced to use motion controls, thanks to a patch) Heavenly Sword SingStar Some PlayStation Network games--not as many as Xbox Live Arcade, but still some good stuff. Unfortunately, I'm not too familiar with most of it: Super Stardust HD Wipeout HD Everyday Shooter flOw echochrome The PixelJunk series

Cross Edge is the crossover RPG with characters from Darkstalkers, Disgaea, Ar Tonelico, and Mana Khemia)
muzz Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 If you take the shooters away, PS3 looks a little more attractive to me (considering Blu-Ray as well). I've never been big on console shooters because I'd become used to a mouse and keyboard on the PC for the last decade.
The Ghost of bps21 Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 I still have yet to play a videogame on my PS3.
Guest Smues Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 I've had my PS3 for a year and a half and rarely ever used it for PS3 games. Mostly I use it for streaming PS1 games to my PSP. But I will give Little Big Planet a chance.
The Ghost of bps21 Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 I use the blueray all the time. I just haven't been able to bring myself to start using another system for gaming. Little Big Planet looks interesting...so it's inevitable that I will.
AndrewTS Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 Crazy Jack Thompson on Take Two stock dip: blame yourself or God! http://www.gamepolitics.com/2008/12/30/tho...two-stock-slide
AnonymousBroccoli Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 The Steam sale is likely to end soon, in case anyone was waiting. I nabbed Blue Shift and Opposing Force, Heavy Weapon Deluxe, Luxor 2 (pretty much a Zuma clone), Reaxxion (Breakout clone) and Trials 2 for about $9.40CAD. Trials 2 is pretty swank. Simple in its control scheme, but complex in its physics. For $2.49, it's absolutely worthwhile. There's a demo to try, if you feel the need. http://store.steampowered.com/app/16600/
muzz Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 Lists like this have made my life easier, but I wondered what people here thought of the list.
TheFranchise Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 A assume this will be the place to put this. I'm watching The Dark Knight on my PS3, DVD not Blu-Ray, and there are black bars at the top and at the bottom, about an inch and a half tall. While not the end of the world, it's certainly annoying. Is there any way to get rid? I've tried changing the settings, all it does is make the bars bigger, but not smaller.

If its a HDTV, most have a zoom feature which will eliminate the bars on the top and bottom
LaParkaMarka Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 Get the full-screen version of the movie, instead of the widescreen version.
Thoth Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 Get the full-screen version of the movie, instead of the widescreen version. Advisement against this. The black bars on the top and bottom of your screen are normal. It is best to learn to like them.
AnonymousBroccoli Posted January 2, 2009 Report Posted January 2, 2009 For The Dark Knight, if the black bars seem bigger than usual, it's because it uses a 2.40:1 aspect ratio. A lot of movies and TV shows use 1.78:1 (also known as 16:9). 2.40:1 is wider, hence the bars are bigger. For some editions of the DVD/Blu-Ray, you might get certain scenes of the movie in a different aspect ratio, because they were made for IMAX screens. And I guess they may have replicated that somehow on the disc releases. Lists like this have made my life easier, but I wondered what people here thought of the list. inFamous at #85 is weaksauce. F.E.A.R. 2 at #93 is weird too. Meanwhile, Splinter Cell: Conviction is #15.
muzz Posted January 3, 2009 Report Posted January 3, 2009 I think F.E.A.R 2 would be higher if it weren't for the confusion around it.
luke-o Posted January 4, 2009 Report Posted January 4, 2009 This may sound random, but does anyone know where I can find mp3s of Game Quotes? Games like Street Fighter, Resident Evil or Maga-Lo-Mania. I've tried a Google search but got nothing.
MarvinisaLunatic Posted January 4, 2009 Report Posted January 4, 2009 Can someone figure out for me why we need a Lego Rock Band game? Seriously?
Matt Young Posted January 4, 2009 Report Posted January 4, 2009 It's just some rumor that's likely bullshit.
Broward83 Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 ...I'm enjoying Fifa. I uh..never thought I'd actually say that. *goes back to buying players from Europe to play on the Houston Dynamo...*
Scroby Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 Can someone figure out for me why we need a Lego Rock Band game? Seriously? Hey if they made the Guitar and Drums and Mic with Legos, I'm fucking sold.
MarvinisaLunatic Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 Can someone figure out for me why we need a Lego Rock Band game? Seriously? Hey if they made the Guitar and Drums and Mic with Legos, I'm fucking sold. That would be awesome if you had to put the drums/guitars together out of lego before you could play it. Itd probably also mean it would cost 300 bucks but hey..small price to pay for such awesomeness.
Obi Chris Kenobi Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 ...I'm enjoying Fifa. I uh..never thought I'd actually say that. *goes back to buying players from Europe to play on the Houston Dynamo...* Give a shout if you want a game, I'll pick a MLS team so its balanced team wise. This year's Fifa is the best in a LONG time.
Broward83 Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 We could go with an EPL team.. I mean, it'd be Man U vs whatever team you choose and if its MLS..it'd be the Dynamo against whomever.
Obi Chris Kenobi Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 We could go with an EPL team.. I mean, it'd be Man U vs whatever team you choose and if its MLS..it'd be the Dynamo against whomever. Ergh, you're not an Man U whore online are you? Disgusting! I try not to use any 5 star teams, as everyone else. Often people will whore Man U, put Ronaldo up front, do a long ball and out pace the defense. It's damn annoying.
Broward83 Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 Uhm...no? I havent even played online. I picked Man U because I'm a fan of the club and if I'm going to play a game, why not play as my fav club? If I had to pick another club it'd be Bayern Munich or the Houston Dynamo.
Obi Chris Kenobi Posted January 5, 2009 Report Posted January 5, 2009 Ah fair enough, just there's days when you play online against people and their favorite club flashes up (Ipswich Town) and they quickly change to Man U since they're the best team. I've even had Chelsea fans switch to Man U just since they're the best... really annoys me. I'm usually Newcastle since I support them, or I'll pick a random team.
