Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted July 8, 2005 For whatever reason, lack of exposure, and not knowing what to seek out being the prime reasons, I've never gotten into MMA, which given my appreciation for human combat, is something I'd certainly like. What I ask of you, the helpful MMA viewer, is recommendations of people just getting their ass handed to them. Close bouts are nice and all, but I'd much rather just see someone get romped BAD. Like tore up and damaged.
Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted July 8, 2005 Well, do you want brutal KO's as well or are you looking just for beginning-to-end shit kickings?
razazteca 0 Report post Posted July 8, 2005 Start out with the UFC Hits/Knockouts videos then get the shows with the fighters you like. Randy Contour in the main event is a good thing.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted July 9, 2005 Well, do you want brutal KO's as well or are you looking just for beginning-to-end shit kickings? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Both are fine. I just want to see someone get dismantled. And thanks Raz for that rec.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2005 Enson Inoue - Igor Vovchanchyn - Pride 10 "Return of the Warriors" (this also has Vanderlei Silva-Guy Mezger and Yvel-Goodridge which can fill in those categories as well) Fedor - Heath Herring - Pride 23 Funny how every recommendation thread Pride 10 comes around sooner rather than later. Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2005 A few quick recomendations. Norifumi Yamamoto vs. Tetsuo Katsuta (SHOOTO)- relatively easy to find Duane Ludwig vs. Shad Smith (KOTC)- another relatively easy find for a small org. match Allan Goes vs. Mark Coleman (PRIDE)- a perfect example of the need for weight classes "Tank" Abbot vs. John Matua (UFC)- one of the most well known UFC beatdowns Bas Rutten vs. Masakatsu Funaki II (Pancrase)- a long, extended beatdown

Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2005 want brutal KO's Get the early Vitor Belfort UFC fights. Belfort vs Tank Abbot <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Vitor never actually full on KO'ed anybody outside of John Hess. Pulver vs. Lewis is also awesome. You can practically see Lewis' jaw getting knocked out of place.
Guest Brian Report post Posted July 9, 2005 The Eastman fight was a straight up beating though.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2005 UFC 44 had some nice KO's. You can find that pretty much anywhere on DVD.

Hunter's Torn Quad 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2005 How about Belfort v Silva from UFC Brazil? Still the most exciting beat down I've ever seen in UFC.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted July 9, 2005 Grand. Thanks for the recommendations, people. To put it into perspective, my two favorite boxers to watch are Mike Tyson and George Foreman, early on in their careers. Both totally destroyed their opponents in different manners. Tyson mugged people, Foreman mauled them like a bear.
RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2005 It's difficult to find a fighter with the intensity and outright dominance of Tyson in his early years. Tyson was an absolute killer who hit so hard. Wanderlei Silva has the same intensity and killer instinct, but IMO he doesn't hit as hard. Then you have guys who hit as hard (Fedor, Cro Cop - cept with a high kick) but who aren't nearly as aggressive. Sergei Kharitonov is probably the closest guy I can think of that would be Tyson-esque, but it's hard to find PRIDE DVD's out there with him in them. PRIDE: Total Elimination 2003 is out on DVD, but I haven't seen it anywhere up here. That has Fedor, Cro Cop, and Silva at their ball stomping finest. Chuck Liddell makes for a nice HL reel also. razazteca 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2005 Like tore up and damaged. Don Frye vs Tank Abbot from Ultimate Ultimate 95 or 96 - half of Frye's face looked like somebody attacked him with a bat.
Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2005 "Kid" Yamamoto was the closest MMA had to a Mike Tyson-like figure, but his attitude has clamed down a bit and his style is no longer as super aggressive as it once was.
AboveAverage484 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2005 AoO you fucking definitely, DEFINITELY need to see Don Frye vs. Yoshihiro Takayam from Pride 21, two guys just beating the fucking hell out of each other mercilessly. Another good beatdown fight is from Pride 13, Wanderlei Silva vs. Kazushi Sakuraba, where Silva just lays the most brutal beatdown humanly possible in one and a half minutes. Here's some other great beatdowns, brawls, and barnburners: Igor vs. Enson from Pride 10 Frye vs. Abbott from Ultimate Ultimate '96 Rutten vs. Funaki from the Pancrase Anniversary Show, where Rutten just beats the shit out of Funaki but he won't quit. Ortiz vs. Shamrock where Tito pounds Ken for three (?, can't remember) brutal rounds. Most of Tank's wins. Ninja vs. Matsui from Pride 16 is the greatest "prolonged beatdown match" in the history of MMA. Jackson vs. Ishikawa is tons of fun packed into a minute or two. Rizzo vs. Barnett is a really great standup fight, 100% of the match is fought on the feet. I'm sure there are some beatdowns from Shooto that I can't think of right now, does Trigg vs. Machado count as Shooto? Anyway, these are some great beatdown fights. He was bigger, and hit with more raw force. Tyson got much of his strength from his low center of gravity and the fact that he was fast. Foreman never had that handspeed that made Tyson a killing machine, but Foreman really had the head for boxing. He'd cut the ring off, fight aggressively but remember to defend himself, and he didn't really slip mentally until the Ali fight. Watch him bat Joe effing Frazier around like a large cat with a catnip mouse impresses me more than Tyson turning a visibly frightened Michael Jack Johnson's head around backwards. I think I'll start with UFC 43 or 44, and probably a random compilation of good knockouts and highlights.
Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2005 Noguiera-Sapp from PRIDE Shockwave 2002 and Noguiera-Mirko from PRIDE Final Conflict 2003. Both great fights, that are sort of what you want, but different in a sense as well. Would probably give you a great appreciation for MMA too. You want a one-sided Beatdown? Phil Baroni-Dave Menne from UFC 39. My God.
Lei Tong 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2005 That wasn't a beatdown; it was a snuff film disguised as a fight.
Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2005 Snuff film seems appropriate, it wasn't just a brutal fight, it was violent, and I don't use that term very often in MMA, as to me violence is only when one person is seriously hurting the other without provocation or any resistance. In MMA, fighters always fight back obviously, but not here. As far as the finish is concerned, it was just one man beating another senselessly as he had no life left in him and showed no will to fight back. Considering how tough the loser was (nickname was warrior after all, fought for two years with 20-400 vision) it just makes the effort that much more impressive. Another one that I don't hear people talk about often in terms of sick finishes was Sylvia-Gan McGee from UFC 44. SPOILER ALERT The KO on the feet is bad enough as Gan(gly) McGee stumbles down, but holy shit the punches on the ground were fucking sick. A 280 lb man who already has a ton of KO power is punching the shit out of Gan's face with HARD shots that just make me cringe. Gan being lifeless as it happens makes it worse. Bonus for anyone who noticed the woman in the front row force herself to look away as Tim rained down the strikes. I bought the DVD recently and saw that more than a few times. Anyways, AoO you said you were already gonna get the UFC 44 DVD so you'll get to see that one.
Your Paragon of Virtue 0 Report post Posted July 10, 2005 Alex Emilienenko vs. Ricardo Morais EDIT: I tried u/l Coleman vs. Goes but it didn't work, so I just replaced with another fun quickie.
AboveAverage484 0 Report post Posted July 11, 2005 Someone needs to UL Ninja/Matsui. Matsui was on the wrong end of some pretty bad beatings (Silva/Igor/Belfort), but this was the first time someone just absolutely murdered him in the ring. This is the greatest beatdown fight of all time.
Guest Big_Jay101 Report post Posted July 12, 2005 Vitor Belfort vs. Marvin Eastman (UFC 43) That was some sick shit, worst cut by far I HAVE EVER SEEN. One sided beatdown, try the more recent Evan Tanner vs Rich Franklin (UFC 53: Heavy Hitters) Some good knockouts/TKO Quinton Jackson vs Wanderlei Silva Sakuraba vs Silva I And III Liddell vs Overeem Abbot vs Nelmark

AmericanDragon 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2005 This isn't mma but "Iron" Mike Zambidis definitely matches what you're looking for if you want a Tysonesque fighter. He fights in K1 Max, the 155lbs divison of K1. It's probably the most competitive and exciting fighting organization out there since there's no freakshows. Zambidis highlight http://s22.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=06M05KD...9R33F5XPRDSBKTG
