treble 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2005 Well, I hope he goes to the Leafs, but I'm not holding my breath. Columbus seems like a pretty boring place for him to end up, even though him and Rick Nash could make a nice duo.

CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted July 20, 2005 You can't give someone the Vezina for the ability to "project" their stats to make them better. Of course not, I was using a comparison. Belfour beats Brodeur hands down in the stats catagory except for wins, which if Belfour played as many games as Brodeur did, he would beat him in that as well. Belfour had a way better statistical year then Brodeur but Brodeur won the vezina. Brodeur is probably the best goalie in the world but for the last NHL season, he wasn't the best goalie yet won the award. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Huh??? Brodeur - 38 wins, 2.03 GAA, .917 SV%, 11 SO Belfour - 34 wins, 2.13 GAA, .918 SV%, 10 SO Are you seeing something I'm not?

I'd laugh like hell...actually we would probably trade the pick since we might not be able to keep Khabby around here and rake someone over the coals for a goalie. Yes, considering Brodeur played way more games then Eddie and only had 4 more wins and around 7 more losses than Belfour. Belfours W/L record was better and shutout frequency was better yet he got 2 votes in the Vezina trophy awards (one first place vote and a third if I remember correctly) Eddies team placed higher and Brodeur won the trophy despite not having better stats minus a slightly better GAA. Also take into effect that New Jersey as a team let in 164 Goals and Toronto as a team let in 204 and it shows just how valuable Belfour was in toronto even though his GAA was only .1 higher than Brodeur. When he wasn't playing, his team sucked lots. Belfour should have won the Vezina over Brodeur. Toronto also played run and gun while New Jersey trapped and that is usually why Brodeur has low GAA. For anyone to play on a run and gun team that scores as often as Toronto does and still have a low GAA like Eddie did that says alot about the quality of goaltending. Fartsauce 0 Report post Posted July 21, 2005 Press conference is on now. 88 per cent of the players ratified. Everyone in the media is hammering Goodenow with questions while Bettman must be loving this. Goodenow is lying through his teeth with all the "this is a great deal for both sides" shit. Guest Olympic Slam Report post Posted July 22, 2005 The logo looks all wrong. But as an old Penguin mark from back in the day, a line of Lemieux and Crosby has me excited already. Even if the kid turns out to be a bust, he'll at least be able to mask it for a long time behind the Magnificent One. We all know Mario = workrate. I would have preffered the Rangers, but thank God he won't be going to Caroina, Columbus, Florida or one of those teams, if you know what I mean.

Prophet of Mike Zagurski 0 Report post Posted July 22, 2005 I like the logo. As long as there are no glowing pucks, things should be fine. I watched the NHL press conference and the draft and I feel optimistic about everything. The league is trying to get people to watch hockey. Opening day is October 5th. I hope the Ducks aren't playing at home. Wednesday is when I have night classes. I was suprised the Ducks were number 2.

Likelihood of that happening: none. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I liked what the Pittsburg GM said after they got the pick. Interviewer: Will you be taking Sidney Crosby number 1? GM: Yes. Interviewer: Is there any possibility trading the pick? GM: None whatsoever. Interviewer: (to the other GMs) Well, you guys just heard it, don't even bother calling. I like where the Canucks ended up. They may not get hometown boy Gilbert Brule, but they do have a chance at another hometown guy, McArdell, as well as several other solid prospects. And I laughed my ass off when the Rangers ended up at 15 or whatever. Good times. Also: lol @ Florida.

bob_barron 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2005 I hate shootouts. They've never appealed to me, and they're such a cheap way to win a game. I've never had a problem with ties and I've never felt letdown by a game ending in a tie. Two of the best games I've seen live were ties. I hate that the NHL is doing all these rule changes to increase scoring. I love hockey the way it was pre-lockout. I like the low scoring defensive games. High scoring games don't do anything for me. But, I don't mind the new rule changes. I hope scoring stays the same, but that the goals start to be of higher quality. I'm tired of half the goals in the league being scored off tip ins and deflections off a skate lace or whatever. You know the game is screwed up when the post-goal description sounds less like color commentary and more like JFK magic bullet theory.
smh810 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2005 The first confirmed buyouts are in: Leclair and Amonte are on the market. Flyers buying out contracts of LeClair, Amonte July 23, 2005 PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- The Philadelphia Flyers are buying out the contracts of forwards John LeClair and Tony Amonte. The buyouts will be announced at a news conference scheduled for Saturday morning, team spokesman Zach Hill said. The 36-year-old LeClair spent 10 years with the Flyers, and was a member of the famed ``Legion of Doom'' line with Eric Lindros and Mikael Renberg in the mid-1990s. He tallied 382 goals and 379 assists overall in the regular season in his career with the Flyers and the Montreal Canadiens; he had 42 goals and 47 assists in the playoffs. ADVERTISEMENT LeClair, who entered the lockout due $9 million this season, was to make $6.84 million after the leaguewide 24 percent pay cut. Amonte, who started the lockout at about $5.61 million, was due $4.26 million. In 14 seasons with New York, Chicago, Phoenix and Philadelphia, Amonte tallied 392 goals and 436 assists in the regular season; he had 20 goals and 31 assists in 86 playoff games. The buyouts will give the Flyers room to make qualifying offers to restricted free agents and begin negotiations with unsigned rookies.
the max 0 Report post Posted July 23, 2005 I wouldn't be surprised to see LeClair retire. He's getting on in age, and has had injury problems in the last few seasons. I don't think he's going to, but I wouldn't be surprised if he did. Amonte is a good fit for someone like Minnesota. They desparately need another finisher besides Gaborik. And while he's in his mid-30's, he still has wheels and a good shot.
