Velocity just aired here Benoit vs. Regal

Recommended Posts

Guest Askewniverse

We get two commercials during a nice Benoit vs. Regal match, but we don't get any commercials during the Diva Search segments. That's not right.

Benoit/Regal should feud over the US title going into SummerSlam. Not that I approve of Benoit being moved down to US title status or anything, but it's not a horrible idea.

There's no excuse to not do a Best of 7 series over the US Title with these two.

That match kicked all kinds of ass. Josh Matthews sounded like he was going to blow his load. Why they bothered with this on Velocity of all places is beyond me...this was a PPV match. Awesome, stiff stuff.

Fucking fuck dogshit, my fucking DVD Recorder stopped recording with 30 seconds left to the finish.

Oh well, it was just the same as the Pillman match anyways.

Thank god Matthews was covering this and not Cole/Taz.

They need to make Matthews the *Official Benoit Commentator* like Tenay was with the cruisers in WCW for awhile.

That was a damn fine Velocity.

Kazarian/Nunzio was pretty nice. Loved the opening sequence and Kazarian using the moss-covered-three-handled-family-credunza as a finisher.

Simon was quite impressive in his squash. The curb stomp should be his finisher, but the simonizer wasn't too bad.

Regal/Benoit was a solid *** 1/2. I marked for the dragon suplex, the double underhook sequence, and Regal busting out the Eddie Guerrero Fall Brawl 97 surfboard/dragon sleeper combo. The hardway blood was a nice touch. The finish was out of nowhere, but I guess Benoit was working the arm, so it's ok. Give these guys a real feud now.

Simon Dean invented some sweet moves on Velocity!  That surfboard stomp move is now my favorite.

It's an STF! Didn't you hear Josh Matthews?

Only kidding.

Yeah I think this is really just a tryout for a potential feud. They can't possibly come up with a single reason why Orlando Jordan should retain at the PPV. If he does, can you just imagine the bitching and bile on the net?

Put this on a PPV, give it 15-20.

Benoit winning the title, only leads to a Christian program.

When it should lead to Regal and JBL programs...

Hopefully this leads to something. It may be a little naive to ask for a Summerslam match, but a rematch or two on Smackdown would be nice

Like others have already pointed out, that was the Curb Stomp. It was invented (as far as I know) by indy wrestler Super Dragon.

I find it amusing and comforting that, despite it being the year 2005, the company WWE, and the character Simon Dean, Nova still somehow finds a way to steal other guys "innovative" moves as his own.

Velocity just started. Kazarian/Nunzio was a decent match, though Frankie predictably got no heat and no one sememd to have a clue who he was.

However Steve Romero has won the award for dumest line of the year, when talking about the Heidenreich/Animal VS MNM match for GAB, he stated

"Yknow Josh, rarely has the underdog been favored..."

Well I sure as hell hope so.

Simon Dean always had love handles, now he's got some flab on his stomach. Ironic. :bonk:

Hey Simon Dean On Velocity, is the bWo done already? Unless he is going to lead a dual existence.

Anyhow I will note that this dumb gimmick limits the former Nova in the ring. Now I never thought Nova was that great, he did use to have some cool moves and work a fast paced style, but now he drags it down with some mat work, though it is decent mat work to be sure.

Hey he finally got a finisher, it looked like a reverse angle slam. Matthews dubbed it "the Simonizer" (hey wasn't that one of Simon Diamond's moves in ECW?). Also what was up with Josh during that match, he kept praising Simon Dean and his system. Is he trying to be a heel?

Who knows? Romero really drags him down/

lol Sad that no one had used my sign idea of "Simon Invented Weight Loss" yet.

Ok match started, first commercial break. Not much action so far. Hey Matthews referenced the Pillman show match! Is Regal supposed to be a heel now on SD? I thought he turned heel by going with Bischoff to ECW ONS, but who knows.

Hey great sign seen before the break "Meltzer loves this"

Gotta go, match will be back on any second now.

Last break, the match really picked up in this segment. Stiff action with some cool groundwork by Regal. Holy crap, blood in A velocity match!

Nice Regal went for liek 5 pins after the running knee and Matthews poitned out the strategy of making Benoit use all his energy to kick out.

Romero however continues to be uselss, as when Regal went for the Regal Strecth (StF), Romero called it a "Figure Four" even Matthews seemed pissed at that. WWE CAN ROMERO NOW, PLEASE.

Wonder what the last part will be like? Goo dmatch so far, they need to give these two some time on a PPV.

Ok it's over. That was a neat finishing sequence. They even busted out the tombstone reversal into a shoulderbreaker to set up the crossface. And notice how Regal immediately tapped. Just as in the Pillman match. He was selling how much how shoulder was hurting plus the pain the crossface puts you in. He got over the move better than any of the other wrestlers.

Wow another Velocity Gem. Wish I could see the match in full. they need to stick that on a dvd somewhere.

Perhpas they can feud over the US title when Benoit presumably wins it at GAB. Benoit/Regal at Summerslam for the US Title would be ultra-cool.

Yea I must really be delusional now.

That was pretty awesome. They went with like a stiffer version of the Pillman show, though I need to watch the latter again. They chain spots were great, as everything they fought over. It felt like a fight, a real struggle, which is just a great dimension that these two bring to wrestling. Punches landing, hard kicks to the body, KNEES to the head. They fought over the dragon suplex and the tiger suplex, they fought over the tombstone. These two wanted to HURT each other, they wanted to put the other one down for a decisive three (or tap). And neither was willing to concede anything for it. I love wrestling.
