Campaign 2008

Recommended Posts

Yeah, I sorta hurried that one through.

Oh come on, you don't want to be around all those old people. THey're not even the interesting old people, like my grandmother and her neighbor, who can discuss all the places in the world they've been and where the best Polish delis are around the area. These are just old people who care deeply about primaries.

I'm gonna stop by my apartment and grab a book on the way. Maybe even my iPod! If I can listen to "Don't Stop Believing" when I indicate my candidate of choice, I'll probably feel better about spending an hour when I could have been masturbating or watching MTV True Life: I Have Tourette's Syndrome standing in line with poorly dressed people I don't know.

I'm pretty sure you can register at the polls, but I hope you don't.

Not in MD..and since they moved up the Primary this year but didnt advertise that they moved up the deadline to register/re-affiliate in order to vote in the primary, a lot of people in MD were kept from registering so they could vote in the Primary.

NOVA, Charlottesville, and about six square miles of Virginia Beach are the only parts of the state I like. I'll give you Richmond, Blacksburg, and all the weird people with beards in the Blue Ridge mountains.

You must be out of your mind.

Fairfax? Falls Church? BALLSTON? THE Ballston?

Can't let that go. Can't do it.

And we're taking the Potomac.

I didn't get it when I first moved here. I kept thinking it was some variant on Boston, just because the notion of Ballston was too ridiculous for me to fully comprehend. That, and Kotz's "ballston" story from 5 or so years ago.

Maryland blows.

Yes. Direct quote from my brother, during our one and only trip to that state, after buying a pack of gum: "...and it's stale! This state blows!" We flew into Baltimore, took a cab ride from some serial killer who ran a service in a SUV, bought a car from a guy who looked even more like a serial killer, drove over a headache-inducing assortment of crooked roads laid out in a counterintuitive fashion, and ate at the very worst Shoneys I've ever been to. (And I've been to a lot of Shoneyses, and none of them were all that good, so "very worst Shoneys" is a fairly strong statement.) Yet, once we drove over the line into Delaware, everything magically got better like someone flicked a switch.

Baltimore's not so bad. Odds are you wont die.

Like I once heard, the mortality rate for humans is always 100%..anyway..

The sports teams are miserable...but seriously..

How about the rules in MD that are allowing 17 year olds the right to vote if they will be 18 by the general election? Yes, I want annoying 17 year olds deciding the future. I cant see them voting for Mccain since he's a grumpy old man at least. Odds are it wont be more than a couple hundred 17 year olds anyway..and even though they got the day off from school today I doubt many of them will end up voting anyway..so its not really an issue..

Voter turnout in MD is supposedly going to be about 40%, up from 24% in the 04 primary.

Did you just read what you wrote? They'll be 18 by the General Election. Since they'll be voting in the General, why not let them choose their candidate?

Guest Blue Man Czech

So someone whose birthday is in July 1990 is somehow more annoying and unfit to vote in the primary than someone born in January 1990. Makes sense.

Solution: Obama needs to get a black VP. They'd have to assassinate 2 Presidents then to get their way! He should just name Oprah his VP..no one would shoot her.

I wish McCain would just go ahead and announce his VP already. I heard he might pick a latino..hmm.

Ironically, I just read that the head of the KKK has actually endorsed Obama, becuase 'anything is better than that crazy ass bitch Hillary.'

Even the KKK get Obamamania!

Virginia is shaping up a lot like Missouri for McCain and Huckabee (That is, it's going to be close until the urban centers), but man... it's going to be hard to stop Obama now. He's got the momentum and, most of all, the time. It was Hillary's nomination to seal on Super Tuesday, and even taking all the liberal establishment strongholds couldn't do it. I know the Clintons are expert campaigners, but I think they met their match: Someone more charismatic and more inspiring than they are.

With two more Democratic Debates coming up, you have to wonder how Clinton and Obama are going to play them. Is Clinton going to be more aggressive, or is she going to try and maintain the "Good Will" feeling she put off in the last one? Is Obama going to play safe, or is he going to try and put it away.

Hillary, or Bill rather, needs to be less agressiving when attacking Barack, or at least to the extent they did prior to South Carolina. You have to remember: if Hillary does get the nomination, she'll need African American votes to win. If she wins with some amount of dignity and honour she'll get the people that voted for Obama to vote for her in the presidential election. But she'll completely alienate those voters if she, or Bill, resorts to cheap race shots again.

Obama's main strategy in Texas is now to appeal to young Hispanics, we'll see how that works out.

Heh... this should work out well...

I don't think it's impossible or anything. One explanation that some have offered for his lack of Hispanic support is that voters just don't know him well enough, but they have a history with Hillary. There's no good reason he couldn't win them over.

You must have not driven far into Delaware.

And Baltimore near the bus station is one of the scariest areas around and I've walked through some bad sections of NYC at night.
